Beaty instead of Pujols to replace Muncy for injury is an interesting choice. Go Mookie. Go Dave.
Bellinger is protecting him so he should get some good pitches to hit.

I hate the Cardinals a lot for a lot of reasons, but this story (widely assumed to be about the Cards and Adam Wainwright in particular) is genuinely charming. And I guess I can see being happy for Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt.

Am I talking myself into this?

I struggle to imagine a scenario where I'd root for the Cardinals against any team other than the Yankees. Fuck the "best fans in baseball." Go Dodgers.

Hearing this “crowd” makes you really appreciate Fenway, and the east coast in general

The cradle of the game.
Cards are more likable after Matheny got the boot, but Dodgers have always been 'my NL team.' With Roberts and the Mookster, I'm a solid blue state.

The catch was great -- but that throw was incredible. A few bounces but he put it right on the corner of the bag. Goldschmidt wasn't going but he would have been so out.

I went to Sox game there a few years ago. Lackey pitching. Fast game 2-0. I went down to get a hot dog in the seventh inning. People still pouring in. They were very aggravated that the beer stands were closed before they got in their seats.

This year is a perfect example of the issue with having this be a one game playoff. The Dodgers were 16 games above the Cardinals and one night ends their season. As exciting as these games can be I wish it was a best of 2 double elimination scenario. The team with the better record has home field and 2 chances to win 1. In cases like the Yankees and Sox being tied you can just do the one game.

If if going to listen to the radio broadcast, which is better now that Scully is gone?

listening to LA ‘s broadcast there’s a weird background drone that’d like more in some of the electronic music I listen to…
That’s been there for years. Sounds like the World Cup from South Africa with the vuvuzelas in the background.

Why should the team awaiting the winner of the WC be forced to wait while an extended scenario plays out?

Or just go back to four teams. Getting a fifth team in the mix just doesn't warrant this.

Don’t know who to root for in this. reflexively hate the Cards for their “Best fans in the game, get by by being cheap and just good enough in a shorty division” schtick.

OTOH, and I want to root for Dave Roberts, and loved Mookie while he was with the Sox, but my heart feels like the Dodgers stole him, and I’d rather his best time be with the Sox and 2018. So fuck the Dodgers.

What's up with the person on the right side, 2nd row, with the giant foam head? I can't stop watching them.

This continues to flummox me. If all you want is to engineer the playoffs so that the outcome mirrors the win probability you got from the regular season (played with an unbalanced schedule, mind you), why bother having playoffs?
