Full Bruins draft

21. Fabian Lysell, RW, SEL
85. Brett Harrison, C, Oshawa (OHL)
117. Philip Svedeback, G, USHL
149. Oskar Jellvik, F, SEL J
181. Ryan Mast, D, Sarnia (OHL)
213. Andre Gasseaju, C, USNTDP
217. Ty Gallagher, DUSNTDP

I’d think Lysell immediately becomes our top prospect. Harrison seems quite intriguing too as a big center. 21-16=37 in 58 games in his 16/17 year old season in 2019/2020. Didn’t play a ton last year with the OHL cancellation. Mast falls into that boat too. The last goalie they drafted was Swayman in 2017 so it certainly makes sense to grab one this year with Svedeback. Gasseau is another big center. He’s going to play for Fargo in the USHL this year and then head to Boston College in 22/23. Gallagher is entering Boston University this season. He was ranked 93rd on one of the Athletic’s lists so seems like real good value there.

I thought going into this draft there would be a lot of guys who would fall that would have been higher picks had they played a normal season. My hope is guys like Gallagher, Mast and Harrison are those players? I guess we will find out in 3-5 years. Lysell is intriguing though. His fall has a very Pastrnakian feel to it. Hopefully we get similar results.

Promising draft prospect report on Harrison -

"What makes Harrison so intriguing as a prospect is that he has all the tools to be an impact player in the NHL—if he is able to strengthen his skating just a little bit."

"He’s a smart player with the physical attributes and play style to be successful in the NHL. With dedication to getting quicker on the ice, there’s no reason to believe Harrison can’t turn into a very good middle-six forward down the road."

"Harrison is likely to hear his name called early on the second day of the draft. That said, given his projectable size and high potential ceiling, it’s conceivable that a good team could grab him late in the first round—particularly an organization that is confident in its development system and that can afford to wait on a potential home run pick."

Harrison seems like a player whose draft stock was really hurt by Covid. He put up 21 goals and 16 assists in 58 games during his underage OHL season in 2019/2020. Covid wiped out the end of that season plus the entirety of the 20/21 season. Harrison got some time with a Finish junior team in 2021, but that was only 8 games. He played on Canada's WJC team too, but in total he got 15 games of action in last season. Given his physical profile, it's not hard to see him jumping way up draft boards if he had a normal OHL season and continued to develop and increase his overall production.

I'm a huge fan of this draft, it seems like a major change in strategy from previous years. The COVID season made things strange, but it seems like the Bruins picked players with much higher upsides than usual and every choice could reasonably be considered the best player available. No random kids from Southie, nobody taken 2 rounds ahead of the consensus, no first round picks on players with bottom six upside, they actually looked outside of US hockey... I'm hoping this is an indication of what future drafts will be more like, thumbs up from me.
