I'm just flipping through the channels, and end up watching some of it. One of Nebraska's players gets hit with a pitch in his ride side, stays in the game and initially appears to be 'OK'. Later in the game when he comes back up to the plate, the announcers and everyone sees him batting with only one hand. He literally cannot lift his right arm/side. He actually does a nice bunt, but is thrown out. Bottom half of the inning, he's in LF. Ball gets hit to him, and he has to run the ball into the IF because he can't throw it. Finally, and mercifully, little league officials notice this, and it looks like they force the coach to take him out.

The announcers seemed to justify the coach, saying they only had one sub, which seems a little incredulous. I'm really curious to see what comes of this, I admire the kid for toughing it out, but he was clearly injured and the coach should've have taken him out. Nebraska was in control the whole game, and the game never was in doubt from what I saw.

That's absolute BS. People like that shouldn't be coaching youth sports. One sub? Give me a break. Use him.

All these games going on now are the regionals. The actual Little League World Series starts on Wednesday or Thursday. There will be no international teams this year, so each regional is sending the winner and the finalist.

Yep, that's him. Jonboy says they were out of subs, but the announcers said they did have one, and he was substituted for with 2 outs when they took the field.

That's bizarre, I would have thought they had no one left to put in; why keep playing the kid who got hurt? Also, wouldn't LL allow a sub for an injury seeing as you have to use everyone, IIRC? For example, if you have 15 players, the other 6 have to bat once, I think. So if you have 9 players and 6 subs, there are 3 kids who don't get subbed for, but if one of them goes down after the other 6 were used, you have no one. That cannot possibly be a forfeit, can it?

The Land of Fist Pumps
Gavin Weir, of South Dakota, is incredible. Struck out 30 of 35 batters in the regional. It’s like watching a 12 year old Sale. Pitching right now against Louisiana.

Kid is unbelievable.

Between districts, states, regionals and LLWS, he has pitched 37.2 innings, allowed 1 hit and struck out 100 out of 113 batters.

In his 3 starts in the LLWS, these are his numbers:

16.2 IP, 0 Hits, 0 Runs, 2 walks and 45k's.

Hopefully, whoever else pitches for them can do well enough on his day's off to get them to the finals.
Add 6 innings, 14Ks, 1 walk, and no more hits to his totals, then close the book on his LL pitching career.

When he reached 65 pitches with two outs in the 5th today, the coach came out to presumably remove him to preserve his eligibility for the championship game (more than 65 pitches means he's done for the week/tournament). Instead, he left him in after giving a rousing speech to the gathered players saying he knew they were good enough to win it all without Weir taking the mound again, so he was letting him finish the game.

Win or lose in the end, good coaching moment. Confidence wins games. Pitchers earn no-hitters. Bravo Coach.

It appears the team from Indiana is fielding an infield with three left-hand throwers: 1B, 2B, and 3B. Two of their three outfielders also throw lefty. I guess they're going with the Phillies approach of outslugging teams, defense be damned. Up 7-1 in the third, they've had a couple defensive issues that have cut their lead to 7-5.

Not sure how many folks heard the story, but the 1st night of the LLWS, a kid from the Utah team fell out of his top bunk, and landed on his head. Fractured skull, brain bleed, etc. If the kid didn't wake up below him when he hit the floor, he's probably dead. He was airlifted, and was in a coma, in surgery, and recently came out of it. Long way to go, but he's making progress, thankfully. A million stories out there about it, and fundraisers (Miracles for Tank). They hadn't played their first game yet. Mookie Betts, who happens to be his favorite player, sent him a video, as have many other athletes, etc.

I have not watched much, if really any, of this until tonight and so my scouting eye for little league is a bit rusty, but man that Hawaii team looks awfully good: deep pitching, three fully competent outfielders, a line-up that felt deep and able to really read pitches/ hit a curve ball. IDK, but after watching them dismantle Texas with no real problems, I'd not want to face them. This Lancaster kid is good.

Also, are the umps always so bad about the strike zone? Tonight the plate was called like it was about 25 inches wide.

Umps aren't bad. That's pretty much the strike zone for LL.

It does seem like many umpires do call the wide strikezone. Can be a bit frustrating. Espeicially when they will sometimes be extremely tight everywhere except the outside corner.
