i know its early but looking at the 2021 season its a huge year for the franchise

if the 2021 season goes like the last 4 Elway might be force out of town even through i think Brittany bowlen would never fire him

the good
Denver has promised at the skills positions esp at WR RB TE
with Vic likely back its means denver front 7 can get better quicker
and with Sutton and maybe Miller back it helps

the bad
Denver has a big QB QT and CB worry
this next year will prove is Lock just a guy
Bolies had a career year but can he do it again
and denver needs 2 CB this offseason

QB Fitz wouild be pefect here as a sounding borad to lock or starter
RB i think Lindsay will be back
WR Patrick will be gone but with jerdy sutton hamler Hamilton denver is stong here
TE Fant can be a top 5 TE and Albent Q couild start for 20 other teams
OL is better but needs 1 more piece
DL if harris comes back the DL is set
LB only q here is will miller be back
CB boyce was a bust michael O is a Num 2 at best Callian is a slot nickel guy
S if simmons is back we are set here

denver plays the AFC WEST NORTH NFC East i wouild guess SF/Zona as game 17 and likey jets/jax if they get the 4th place sch

right now i see a 9-8 record for denver in 2021 anything less than 8 wins might mean sweeping changes after 2021

Looks like Elway is giving up control of personnel and hiring a GM.
it is true boy that aged well u know if he was going to do that u have to fire the coach too

i couild say denver was 3 plays from 8-8 but they also 3 plays from 2-14

looks like adam petes from San Francisco is the leader for gm already worked in denver before lynch took him in 2015 if jimmy g gets cut denver couild make a play for him

I could not believe how bad Fangio's end-of-game management was Sunday:

- The Raiders completed a pass in bounds with about 35 seconds left and no timeouts to bring up fourth and goal at the 1 down seven. Fangio waited around 10 seconds to call a timeout - it's not like the Raiders were going to run out of time or be rushed as they had plenty of time to huddle and run a play. Call a timeout to give yourself more time to score if need be, especially in Denver where 60-yarders aren't out of the ordinary.

- After they scored, the Raiders decided to go for two except they were completely discombobulated (Waller wasn't even on the field). For some inexplicable reason, Fangio called a timeout which not only bailed the Raiders out (they would've either had to rush the play or take a delay) but cost him his last one. Of course, the Raiders made the conversion.

- Finally, with nine seconds left he decided to attempt a 63-yarder. Obviously the middle of the field is closed with no timeouts (sure would've been nice if he didn't burn one with the clock stopped and the Raiders out of whack) but that's plenty of time to take a shot to the sidelines and throw it away if nothing is there.

I'm surprised the Broncos didn't move on. Lock's lack of development is the biggest issue but Fangio is 12-20, doesn't seem to know how to manage the clock and they've only fielded average defensive units despite a decent amount of talent there (although obviously Miller was a huge loss this year) and the reputation he came with on that side of the ball. Given that he'll be 63 before next season, can you see him coaching the next good Broncos team?

Actually, I thought Fangio’s biggest mistake was calling the first timeout at all — make the Raiders get up to the line and run a 4th-down play on a shortened play clock (there were less than 40 seconds remaining).

No coach who is in demand will take the Denver job so long as Elway is in a position of authority. They might as well give Fangio another year; if nothing else, it will soften their reputation for cutting bait quickly on head coaches. If Elway proves in the next year that he’s just a figurehead now, Denver will be a more attractive destination next year when they do sack Fangio (because let’s face it, even BB couldn’t get this team to the playoffs).

I would say that play ended with about 37 seconds left - it started at 43. That's almost a full play clock - plenty of time to huddle and get to the line so there's no way they would've been rushed. The Raiders then would've taken it down to zero so the Broncos would have no chance to come back and score if they had to. Even if the Raiders made the original rushed two-point conversion (which I would've bet against) or took a delay and kicked the extra point, the Broncos should've gotten the ball back with about 34 seconds left and one timeout. Fangio made sure they got it with 24 seconds and no timeouts.

That’s fair. I confess a bias toward letting the clock run in these situations. Time pressure forces mistakes; the Malcolm Butler play is the most famous example, and the Seahawks weren’t as pressured then as the Raiders would have been on Sunday. But I agree that waiting ten seconds to call timeout was the worst of all worlds, and likely robbed the Broncos of an opportunity to run another play or two to get in range for a more makable field goal than the 63-yarder they ultimately attempted.

I agree that the TO on the 2pt play was ridiculous. The Raiders were totally discombobulated and Denver completely bailed them out. Awful.

I don't think the Raiders would've been pressured at all though - they had 37 seconds to run one do-or-die play. The genius of Belichick letting the clock run down is that the Seahawks only had one timeout and had to plan for three downs. If they ran it on second and got stuffed, they would've had to call their last timeout and couldn't run it on third again because then the clock would've expired/they would've been extremely rushed if they got stuffed. I don't think Wilson threw a pick because of time pressure - they had to throw and it was just an amazing play by Butler.

just spitballin here

stafford to denver for our 9 and 3rd round 2021 pick and qb drew lock or 9 and justin simmons and lock

Detroit is not takeing anything less than 9 simmons is a guy i dont want to trade but without him our 22 first wouild have to go too

or watson and J J watt to denver for denver 1st 2nd in 21 1st in 22 1st in 23 jerell casey and Jusin simmons

u have to give up 2 1st for watson maybe even 3 casey has 2 years left and wouild start for Houston simmons is a top 4 s that is great in the community and on the field now if hou just wants picks then watson has to go to Miami this give hou g m draft cap to do what he needs denver a top 6-8 qb

Pats might do that deal for #40. You wouldn’t need #9 and that would be a huge overpay for a CB who will be 31 next season and needs a new deal.

Miller and K Jackson are 50/50 to be back cutting DE J Casey wouild free up 13 mil if Hou trades D Watson he will go to NYJ SF or DEN simmons will be back the only losses through FA will be DE S Harris and RT D Dotson who is better as a swing Tackle

denver team needs is

1 QB - Lock at best is a mid-20's qb yes u can argue denver has bigger needs at CB MLB AND RT but a better qb means denver goes from a 4-5 win team to a 8-9 win team
2 MLB Fagio has to have a star 3-4 type of ILB like a rohan smith CHI denver also needs much better run def
3 CB denver has some nice num 2 type CB'S but lack a shutdown choice and in a div with Hill allen and ruggs that is trouble
4 RT or sign a LT like T Williams SF or villiea Pitt and filp bolies to RT
5 RB gordrah is a short term fix and lindsey is best as a kevin fauik type
6 DE someone to replace S Harris

other than loseing lindray this new gm has done the best he could do he is building a top 5 def we still have 30 mil in cap room they still need a RT 2 names to keep a eye on

Eric Wilson LB -minn And demar doston RT den adding those two wouild mean denver couild trade up for any qb not named lawrence in the draft or stay at 9 and pick from Lance QB Jones QB Slater T Farley or sirtain iii CB or go up to 6 and get Sewell or parcons

denver has 3 choies
1 trade with mia and get wilson or fieads
2 trade with philly for parons swell lance
3 stick at 9 and pick slater T or a CB
bouns choice trade down with minn for a ex 22 1st and 21 3rd and see who fails to 14

Fuller for 1 year is good, good business. I know staying healthy is never a given in the NFL, but Fuller hasn’t missed a game in 4 seasons and he’s superb in Fangio’s system.

darby for 3y/ 30 mil was good plus re-signing SS K Jackson and locking up simmons for 4y 61 mil was a steal all denver needs for a top 5 def is 1 more ILB and 1 more DE of coure the QB might be 32 out of 32

update on the broncos

they have 27.2 mil in space 2nd only to jax over the cap com

teddy b might be in play our gm drafted him in minn

also minchew jax qb might be in play as well

i mean denver needs a qb but with 5 QB likely in the first 7'8 picks i am starting to think draft swell OT or slater OT or parons ILB and have a 10 years of souild play

draft needs

OT with a etile T denver O-line couild be a top 10 line by 2022
ILB jewell is a nice player but lacks speed to cover TE and RB a weakness since 2016
RB gordan is a FA after 2021 boone seems like a backup type

yes denver needs a qb but 2022 might be better to get 1 esp if denver trade down form 9 and gets a ex 2022 1st

Interesting. Denver is one of the teams that should be making a play for a QB in this year’s draft. From an outside perspective, they seem to have a pretty talented roster but it seems Lock is not the answer.

So if they pass on QB and run it back with Lock, it feels like they’re in the same position next year with a less talented QB class. So they’re really committing to Lock for another 2 seasons.

With less competition on the dance floor now with Carolina out of play, they would need to outbid NE or Chicago to get up to 4 with Atlanta and try and get Fields or Lance. Maybe they call Atlanta’s bluff and try and sit tight and see if one of them falls into their lap. Will be interesting to see what happens.

I think its pretty hard to evaluate Lock. His overall numbers in 2020 were definitely poor but there are a lot of qualifying circumstances. He looked pretty decent at the end of 2019. After that you've got a new offensive coordinator coming in with a very different system, Covid ruining the offseason after his rookie year (which is usually a hugely important one for developing QBs), an abbreviated pre-season, immediate shoulder injury, misses a game later due to all of the team's QBs needing to quarantine, etc. And while the surrounding talent has some real bright spots in Fant and Lamb, they're also very young and just learning the NFL game themselves.

I'm not super high on him personally but I can understand the argument for rolling him with another year and seeing what he can do in the same system, after a real offseason and preseason, surrounded by players who themselves now have their feet on the ground.

i doubt ATL will draft QB there is rumors SF is falling is love with fields but i think its a smokescreen at this time last year noone had heard of wilson lance was a 2022 pos Mac jones was 50/50 to be bama starter if denver does not win at least 9 games in 21 there will be a new coach in 22 maybe mike zimmer lesley fraizer eric brimeny

I'm not super high on him personally but I can understand the argument for rolling him with another year and seeing what he can do in the same system, after a real offseason and preseason, surrounded by players who themselves now have their feet on the ground.
it is hard to evaluate he missed 3 games early sutton his 1 target form 19 played in only 1 game jerdy was up/down as a rook hamler missed haif the season fant missed like 4 games albert o really showed flashes but missed like 12 games lock kinda is steakly and presses at least 1 OMG throw a game

if fields is there at 9 we need to take him if not lance is 5050 to me and mac jones is too unathlic if the QB'S are gone denver needs to trade down and get a ex 22 1st and needs a RT in the worst way if they stay at 9 and the QB are gone mrich parions couild have a deivn white rquain smith impact

1 Tenn 11-6 2 Jax 8-9 3 indy 7-10 4 Hou 1-16 because i think watson will miss the whole year

west
can kc get homefield yes they improve their O line but will get every team best shot i reseve the right to change if denver gets rodgers right now i have LAC 2nd only because of herbert den will win at least 3 more games but without a QB Upgrade to qurte pitno that 2015 broncos def is not comeing back the raiders are in a rock and a hard place they will never win more than 9 games unless gruren gets a star qb

What did you make of the Broncos’ draft, j-man? Were they not high on Fields?

Surtain was certainly one of my favorite players in the draft; he’s a stone cold lock to be a very good corner, and those don’t grow on trees.

The only one that sticks out to me is Indy, I guess two stick out. I rate them as quite a good team and if Reich can get Wentz going, I really like them. Unless Denver gets Rodgers, I think I would have to put Indy in the second tier behind Buff. If Wentz cant even be a game manager, it could get ugly.

You put Jags awfully high. I like Meyer too, but their roster is not that good.

I won't comment on Jets, haha.

I'm on the wait and see plan. I have zero comments on WIlson, I just hope he is good. I did see Trevor a bit, he is a great college QB no doubt, but I don't see this Elway level shit people say. I also know that I am no expert on college QBs (I did want the Jets to take Watson, and have regretted that they didn't until very recently).

First imoressions: Chicago and Atlanta too low, NO too high (they get NFC East and Jets but schedule is otherwise brutal). I really do think Philly will suck. They seem like a mess right now. Maybe they will surprise.

Minnesota could be good which would hurt Chicago though. God, I cannot wait for Football Season.
