Dusty and Pitching Changes ... a Tragedy in Multiple Acts
In many of tomorrow's headlines it will be a "Triumph over the Nerds"
(Nothing wrong in theory with letting him go when up 6-0. But mcC's stuff was slipping in the 6th and the 3rd out went to the wall).

Grandal slashed .240/.420/.520 in 375 PAs this year. That's ridiculous.

Did anybody hear Costas mistake on the original name of the Ballpark?? He said before Minute Maid it was called The Ballpark at the the Train depot or something like that??? Huh??? It was Enron of course!!! 2000 and 2001. What you're not allowed to say Enron because Enron got in trouble?? That's not censorship that's an untruth???

No, Costas is correct. Ballpark at Union Station (in the mold of Ballpark at Camden Yards and Ballpark at Arlington) was the working name for the park while it was being built, then Enron bought the naming rights before it opened.

Kaat just read an apology and explained that he "had to read this" beforehand. That was about as tone deaf as they could have made that.

Ok. Thank you for explaining that. I don't remember that but now I understand. But he also said before Minute Maid. He should have said Enron was the second name.

And apologized just now. People are very sensitive.
I just read up on the reference to a 40 acre field. Some freed slaves were given a 40 acre field.

Kaat's comment is fucking repulsive. It cannot be an innocent mistake to refer to a 40 acre field "full" of players of color based on their physique. He should be out of the fucking booth before the next inning.

I guess I probably shouldn't have declared that I know what is in a guy's heart or mind based on a reference that I just learned 10 minutes ago. It sure sounds bad, but perhaps there's a usage I don't know about.

But, either way, I'll say this -- what the fuck is MLB thinking putting three medicare eligible people in the same booth of a game? Their combined ages is like 217. Is this really what MLB is hoping for?

Wait a sec — I think getting mad about slavery nostalgia doesn't count as "sensitivity." That's white supremacist shit. That's tough to "apologize" for.
I find it hard to believe that was his intent.

I find it hard to believe that was his intent.
I have a lot of trouble understanding what else his intent could be. Is there another interpretation that makes any sense at all?

He's talking about the physique of a black Caribbean man, and he says he would like to have a bunch of them in a "40-acre field." Baseball fields aren't 40 acres. I don't see how to interpret that other than him saying, basically, "this guy looks like a good field hand."

He's being paid to broadcast in public; he's not just talking shit in a bar or whatever. I don't see how "don't assess the bodies of the players like you might at a slave auction" is too high a bar to expect him to clear.

It would be really interesting to see how first-pitch strikes correlate to winning and losing in the playoffs.

I would not be surprised at all if it were as predictive of success as turnovers are in football.
