This is a beautiful thing.

“NOT THIS YEAR. goodbye jumping into the defender fouls.”

It's funny how easy it is/was to fix that. Makes you wonder about all the other stuff...

around the way
I can't decide if I like that it is no-call, or whether it should be an offensive
I think that it's a good no-call, like the rule of verticality challenges. Offensive player initiates there too, and it's a good no-call. If guys aren't getting to the line, they'll stop doing it.

I actually don't think that one was a foul under the old rules interpretation either. Curry misjudged the space between them.

Good rule change regardless, though.

Why would you rather have a non-NBA player than a mediocre one?
My guess is because if you're using the 15th spot that guy isn't playing much if at all, so a 20 year old who might get better is a more interesting punt than a vet with no knees who is a liability on one end. Jabari's not a mediocre NBA player, he's a fringe NBA player.

Nobody is arguing that Jabari isn't better, just that he's probably not really good enough to have a roster spot and at 7 years in the league with bad knees, no athleticism and no outside shot he's an extremely limited piece. One you might choose to replace with a player who has a small chance to be an NBA quality player in a year or two. (Though actually you could keep both by giving him a 2 way, if he clears waivers he's eligible). Interesting wrinkle on DARKO there... it has Jabari as a positive on defense, I 100% don't believe that. At all. Nor does any NBA team. DOumbouya is a better defender than Jabari was when he had knees. He's played very little, there is a chance he becomes a decent defender and competent bench player.

Personally I'd cut Jabari and sign someone better than Doumbouya and offer Doumbouya a 2 way, because I think there are guys out there (including some of the camp guys) who are better than either.

Are we rebuilding or are we playing to compete for the NBA Finals? Doumbouya “may” be able to contribute to a winning team someday and there are teams in the league that could give him that chance with time…….this isn’t that team however and if the choice of the better player right now between the two it is pretty clearly Jabari, even though he may not even be on the team.

I mean, if we're giving minutes to Jabari Parker we definitely aren't competing for the title.

Edit- to be more clear, I think neither should be on the 15 man, but also, I recognize that the 15th man shouldn't and won't have any impact on a season unless he's a young guy who takes some wildly unexpected leap, so even a title contender can use it for a development project without much concern. I mean last year the Bucks used roster spots on Dragan Bender and Giannis's brother

I wouldn’t say this is true at all. Jabari gave us some very good minutes in the Brooklyn series last year. Obviously not ideal but there isn’t a chance in hell that Doumbouya could have played those minites without embarrassing himself much less competing and producing like Jabari did.

I didn't think the minutes were that good, but it also proves the point. Last year's team wasn't a contender, it wasn't close to a contender, and that Jabari played minutes proved it, he played because we had a combination of injuries and other bad players that led to the 14th man getting time, it's why we overhauled the depth of the squad this offseason.

Clearly delivering a message to Doc that he doesn't want to be in a Simmons trade.

Eighteen former NBA players have been charged with defrauding the league's health and welfare benefit plan out of about $4 million, according to an indictment Thursday in New York.

Federal prosecutors planned a news conference for noon ET Thursday to describe the case that was brought in Manhattan federal court. By late morning, 16 of the defendants were in custody, authorities said.

According to the indictment, the former players engaged in a widespread scheme to defraud the plan by submitting false and fraudulent claims to get reimbursed for medical and dental expenses that were never actually incurred.

Includes former Celtics like Tony Allen and Big Baby Davis, plus others (Milt Palacio is a name I hadn’t heard for a long time).

NBA preseason leaders, pts/36 (min. 50 minutes)

1. Jordan Poole 37.4
2. Stephen Curry 33.7
3. Ja Morant 32.6
4. Bam Adebayo 30.9
5. Jordan Nwora 29.0
6. Otto Porter Jr. 27.8
7. OG Anunoby 27.6
8. Jared Butler 27.3
9. Tyler Herro 26.8
10. D’Angelo Russell 26.8

Beyond Jordan Poole continuing to do this thing, OPJ is looking like a huge add for the Warriors, if he can hold together physically…

Using per 36 numbers for bench players is already a pretty big question mark. Using them FROM THE PRESEASON? It's going to be a loooooong season...

Most of those guys are starters (including Poole). But this is the off-season thread, and I think I was just posting the preseason scoring leaders to date, not “using” them?

How’s your boy Westbrook doing, btw? :)

Glad to see Jared Butler already proving his vast superiority to Davion Mitchell.

May as well just hand the title to the Bucks now that they have a 2nd franchise player in Jordan Nwora!

edit: Sarcasm aside, Nwora had some interesting games last year.

Isn't OPJ hitting something like 58% of 3Ps during the preseason? I also read somewhere that he thinks he's healthy. Will be excellent add for GSW if true.
Only 56%.

I thought 6.2 3pa in 19 mpg was impressive until I looked at other people, such as Hield (13 in 23), Poole (10 in 22), Steph (9 in 20) & Clarkson (8 in 16).

Yeah, 56% in a tiny sample (14-25). But he’s been hitting in the rarefied 40%-plus range from three for a few years now — just hasn’t been able to stay on the floor long enough for people to really take notice. Excellent rebounder and solid defender, too. And just turned 28. Basically an ideal Kerr-ball 4, if he can hold his body together…

Time table - Pelicans do not know when Zion will return from foot surgery.

Dinner table - Pretty sure Zion will be there within the hour. (2021 media day in white, 2019 in dark)
