Hey guys! Does anyone here know of a realtor in the DC area? I’m asking for a friend.
I wouldn’t trade Brown for Beal unless there is another shoe to drop (and I don’t know how we’d afford whatever it is). I would offer them their preference of matching salaries (Smart / Thompson / Fournier / Horford) with some combination of young players/picks, hoping that Beal would simply threaten to sign with us next summer in free agency if Washington didn’t cooperate.

Jaylen Brown has more value than Beal, right?
Yes, or close anyway. If Beal does let it be known that he “prefers” Boston, this gets done without Brown, for a package similar to what Brooklyn gave for Harden.

Ideally you just do it for Horford and a young guy and a bunch of picks.

Roll with a Smart, Beal, Brown, Tatum, TL lineup

That would be incredible if Beal can get here for Smart, young pieces and draft picks.

Yeah I’m not banking on that. If Beal demands a trade I think it’s pretty unlikely that he forces his way to Boston. Reportedly the teams he’s interested in also include Golden State, Philly, and Miami.

There’s literally no way the Celtics can beat a GS offer. Two lotto picks, Wiseman, and the ability to match salary is a no brainer. Unless Jaylen is going the other way, we’re not getting Beal if he wants out this year. I think best case scenario for Beal to Boston is he stays in Washington this year

Smart, Fournier sign and trade, Langford and a pick buffet? Hard to believe that’s close, and it may be the preferred destination but he may also like other teams with actual assets. Golden State still seems the most likely landing spot unless he’s willing to force the issue.

Washington is going to demand Brown in any trade package. I wouldn’t do that if I was Brad, because the upgrade, if any, wouldn’t be enough to justify that sort of roster overhaul.

I assume Morey is on the phone offering a Ben Simmons for Beal deal right now. For that to work I’d think Washington would need to find a taker for Westbrook since having Simmons and Westbrook on the floor together would be like playing basketball in a phone booth from a spacing perspective, though I don’t know what Russ’s value is right now.

Remember that a new GM is looking to put his stamp on the roster right out of the gate. This factor alone makes this swap a very real possibility.

Trying to find a reasonable offer for Beal is tough.
I wouldn't move Brown for him.
Closest I can come up with is something like....
Fournier on a 3 year deal (Frontloaded to make it attractive as a trade asset down the line), TL, Nesmith, TT's expiring and Picks? That's reasonable for both sides probably if Beal asked out and suggested he'd only re-sign a few places (BOS, LAL, LAC, BKN, etc.).

Or the possibility it would piss off Tatum if they had a chance to acquire Beal for Brown and they didn't.

To be brutally frank Jaylen alone is worth more than the 7th and 14th picks in a five player draft and a C that’s years away from being anything more than a roleplayer. Now if the Warriors were holding 4 and 14 that would be a different matter. But they don’t. Offering Washington the chance to draft more Rui Hachimura level players isn’t much. Especially when they’re trying to sell the locals on the team’s getting better.

Maybe, but you just signed him so you have a few years ( at least 2, as many as 4) to make it up to him by winning before he realistically can have any leverage to do anything about it. If you make a bad deal to get his buddy and the team ends up worse in 2 years with Beal on an underwater long term deal Tatum may well be shopping for a new place to play. Making bad deals because you're trying to appease a guy with 5 years left on his contract is a terrible GM move.

You could make it up to him next year by signing Beal in FA if Beal gets that far.

I wasn't saying that is a reason to make the trade either, just that it's a touchy subject. I think there's a deal that can be made without Brown if Beal decides to force his way to Boston. Not sure he'll go that far.

What a fascinating *potential* deal for all sides. If you had to pick the player that closely resembles Adams' *overall production* it would be Valanciunas - the latter is a much better rebounder/offensive player. The guy is below the radar but is sneaky good for a big.

He's a monster, at least offensively.

That trade is way past the limit of my NBA knowledge. I look at it and I’m like…did they just throw darts?

NO is getting a big that can play next to Zion better than Adams and freeing up cap space to try to sign a high-value free agent (probably Lowry?).

It is largely a salary dump, like $30 million going to Memphis in exchange for draft capital.

The Lakers 1st is top 10 protected, so that's a pretty legitimate pick, too.

Grizzlies must have someone they're targeting at 10 to be ok taking on all that bad $...

Where does Lonzo end up? And why are we so concerned about being hard capped if we were goign to try and get him in a sign and trade?
NYK or CHI is my guess, though maybe NOP if his market is soft.

If you receive a player in a S&T you are hardcapped. That would make it very difficult for the Celtics to build a team out. Basically you'd add Lonzo and nothing else and lose all your FAs (including Fournier) for nothing.

MEM took on $43M or so of guaranteed $ to move up 7 spots in the draft.
It isn’t really $43m as Bledsoe will be expiring next year and can be utilized as an expiring asset. They moved up in the 2R from 51 to 40 while also adding a Lakers protected 1R pick. They simply utilized their cap space to secure 2 better draft picks while adding a third.

NOP could just match on Lonzo now, or at least credibly threaten to & make someone give up actual assets.

Lol Griffin for the Adams fail.

According to Stein the Pelicans have been looking to add space for Kyle Lowry, which seems...not great timeline-wise.

Yeah, this deal looks a lot better for the Pels if they’ve sold Zion on being patient for a year and them having tons of cap space next offseason, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.

For Memphis, moving from 17 to 10 is pretty significant value. And I suspect Memphis doesn’t think they have a realistic path to acquiring talent via FA so locking up an extra year of cap space doesn’t cost them that much.

Michael Scotto is reporting that NBA teams think Josh Giddey is the Grizzlies target @ 10.

I'm scratching my head on this one, love it from the Pelicans side of things
Memphis absorbs a contract into their cap space to move up for Giddey or to move up again for Bouknight, their other target. If I’m a Grizz fan I love the aggressiveness to move up for only cap space while adding a year on your starting 5’s deal as Jonas was expiring and looking to get paid next summer so you don’t lose him for nothing (or forced to overpay into an awful contract).

if I was a Memphis fan, I'd rather have them aggressively go after FA (Fournier?) or young RFA talent, stay put at 17 and keep Valanciunas (who I like much more than Adams)

Bouknight, 7.5 and climbing, he's not hitting double digits

or did you also want them to trade up again for James Bouknight? 6'5" SG that's terrible from 3, pretty bad distributor. I'd just take Springer @ 17(2yrs younger than chase JB, if that's the plan)

As a Celtics fan I'm happy, takes a potential bidder for Fournier off the table

Brogdon and Turner for Horford and Smart.

Turner doesn't make sense at all unless a big is leaving.

They don’t want to lock in big contracts to veterans in their 30’s so $80-100m for Fournier is never happening when you have to prepare for the Morant and JJJ extensions.....and I sure hope it doesn’t happen in Boston (nor do I expect it to). That’s why they moved Valenciunas, who I like also, but they were losing him next summer anyway so now they extend his position for an extra year in Adam’s without a long term deal.

Bouknight leaped in the draft based on his lights out shooting at the workouts which makes sense as he has fine mechanics. I attribute his low 3-pt pct last year to his role as the do-it-all guy for UConn who faces constant double teams while having no clear catch and shoot opportunities.......very similar to Jaylen as a senior at Cal.

I wonder if the braintrust has had enough of Time Lord's inability to stay on the court, however wondrously talented he might be.
I think Brad loves TL's potential and is going to give him every chance to succeed. I mean can you imagine how good the Cs would be if TL could play an entire 2nd half of the season + playoffs just once?

What the Celtics DEFINITELY need is another center. I struggle to see this one.
Maybe Brad watched France play 2 bigs against USA basketball and thinks he's going to give it a try in the NBA.

Brad also has more information than anyone on TL’s injuries. If he is moved by next year we can pretty much assume it was medically related.

You're correct. I should have said that Pels got rid of $43M-ish in salary commitments.

We all love Time Lord's potential. But, as the saying goes, availability is a talent, and he's struggled in that area. Let's hope that's all behind him now.

If Tatum prioritizes playing with his buddy over a better chance to win for years then he's the one who needs to go.
I have always been a Jaylen guy but damn.....it isn’t like Brad Beal is Tomas Satoransky here. Beal “may” be a better fit than Jaylen, is certainly as talented, and there may be more the team knows about Jaylen’s knee then we do.

Why are you trying to kill benhogan!!!!
Still can't figure out which was worse
1. Watching TT/Theis cover wings for numerous possessions or
2. Theis being a spot-up 3pt shooter with Tristen clogging the lane

The saddest bit is the first 10 games were the best part of the season.

COVID season came as advertised. It's the only thing that delivered on its promise.

Well after a long day, it's nice having a big smile on my face knowing that the thought of Turner coming here is going to bother people.

If PBS is a mad trader over the next few weeks, it really would be a pleasant surprise.
