I am guessing he is an avatar for certain anti-vax folks who drive by with a vote for him and no other players (not fans of the NBA otherwise).
I would think a reasonable proportion of the anti-vax crowd would not have much love for Irving, though.

Strange bedfellows and all, it is a marriage of convenience. Before Kanye announced his own candidacy for the presidency, there was plenty of dunking on longtime liberal-leaning fans by those on the far right by those who would not have been, shall we say, "fans" of his music or message.

Edit: With that tangent, I'll end any wrangling of politics into this thread.

I like the move for the Pistons. 99% chance Bol remains useless, but there is that 1% chance Bol blows up if given an opportunity. Even if he does I think he's a deeply flawed player, but why not try.
makes sens for both teams, DEN likely thinks there is a better chance McGruder finds his shot again than Bol becomes useful (and they get a 2nd), plus word was Bol just had no interest in working for minutes. They laid out for him what he needed to do to get more time and he just straight up didn't do it. He would do what he wanted instead, so he just got benched. How they developed MPJ, showed how willing they were to deal with struggles on both ends if you TRIED to do what they asked you to... Bol wanted to just roam around doing nothing on D and never step inside the 3pt line on offense, he was like the laziest guy in a game at the Y.

Morey can prove us all wrong by pulling off the deal he's waiting for. By the day, though, seems more likely he'll prove us all right as the deal which he insists he should get seems more and more distant. Woj reporting that he might just wait until after the season is a way of saying he's willing to waste a full year of Embiid's precarious knees just to prove he can get maximum value.

I enjoyed the bits about him wanting to package Simmons (Talented player on a reasonable deal, but not a discount, and with some real high end risk) with Tobias Harris (solid starter on one of the worst deals in the league) for a top 30 player.

Right. i mean, Morey's probably a helluva poker player: bid up when you have a bad hand is a bold strategy. Not only do we need a top 20 (or 25 or whatever it is) player back, we also need you to take a terrible contract off of our hands.

I can't believe he was serious about that; maybe just a maneuver to focus other GMs on counter-offers just for Simmons?

And the other GMs countered by having Shams say that as the Simmons not playing issue has dragged on GMs are starting to express concern about his remaining contract.

That's all Cam got? Man, RL and AN must have 0 value.
I mean, there is a good case both have at least that much, because Cam Reddish is terrible, has been terrible over many more minutes. Nesmith gets the benefit of having an extra year, Romeo is cheaper and has a (short) record of having at least 1 more NBA skill (defense).

I wonder if people are fooled by Reddish' draft stock and that Atlanta played him minutes, he;'s been every bit as bad if not worse than our young guys.

Edit- he's shown a bit on offense in this short season, first time in his career, he's a terrible defender still though. Protected 1st, 2nd and another bust draftee seems fair.

What exactly is the objective of the Cam deal? Is Atlanta throwing in the towel? On the flipside, does Cam really help the Knicks much?

Reddish is a big win that can shoot a bit. It will be interesting to see if his defense improves at all going from that disaster of an Atlanta team defense, to a Thibs-coached team.

Remember, the pick that was Reddish was what Atlanta got for trading down in the draft with Dallas in the Trae/Luka swap.

He has been bad, and they:
1. Don't want to pay him a new deal
2. Have better players at his position
3. Get a pick that they can use in a trade for good players.

ATL is cashing out on draft stock and maybe some potential on a guy they would likely have benched otherwise (probably hurting any remaining value).
NYK are taking a shot in the dark on a guy who had a lot of potential (and is buddies/former teammates) with one of their guys.

I am more optimistic on Reddish, though I agree he's mostly speculative at this point. Atlanta has a cap/player crunch and won't be able to resign him so for them this is about getting what they can for him. Given that, pretty solid return (and an indication he's not terrible in the eyes of the league, imo).

I think he has the potential to not be terrible, I was just pointing out that his first 2 years were very much terrible, and this year he's been a decent offense/no defense guy. His track record isn't much better than Nesmith or Romeo, so if a team sees upside in them, like the Knicks see in Reddish, the return (heavily protected late 1st+trash) could be similar.

An extra pick for a deadline upgrade deal of Atlanta. For the Knicks, well, I stopped trying to find the why there years ago.

Listen if Reddish is really a 38% 3pt shooter... that's got some value, maybe Thibs gets him to be a solid to good defender... that's easily worth a 1st, and there's upside in his game to become poor man's Jaylen Brown. Knicks should take shots like that, they have rotation time, their contract situation going forward isn't bad.

Reddish seems to be the exact same player he's always been except he's hitting more 3s.

His on-off this season is -14.3...

Hawks need to do a consolidation trade. I guess whoever they're looking to trade with would rather have a 1st than Reddish. Makes sense.

Cam is hot garbage just as he was at Duke. Atlanta couldn’t get rid of him quick enough. He’ll be in Thibs doghouse by March.
Agreed. He had all the tools to be a star and was simply meh at the NCAA level. Sometimes there’s a reason for the red flag, but in his case it always looked like he was coasting by on physical talent. I can understand why the Knicks are willing to gamble given the cost (this is a roleplayer draft, and the quality of roleplayer they’d likely see with a mid first probably has less upside), but Reddish and Thibs aren’t going to mix well.

I like Trae and all, but man what a terrible deal that turned out to be. But the fact that the Hawks cleared future payroll space by moving an extraneous player makes me hopeful that Boston could take a run at PJ Washington because he’s in sort of the same situation in Charlotte (without the whole being mediocre thing that Reddish had going for him).

This deal won't change the landscape of the NBA or anything but if I am a Knicks fan, I love this trade. Its effectively a lottery ticket on Reddish figuring things out which seems like the sort of bet a franchise like New York needs to take. Even if all of the firm predictions that Reddish will get buried on the bench play out, its hard to see the downside for NYK. Its difficult to see Kevin Knox or the heavily protected Charlotte pick (which should be viewed more as a second imo) coming back to haunt them. But maybe I am missing the value of a second round pick...

I don't think Charlotte sees it that way, he's 7th in MPG for them, and closing on 6th, they have 30M coming off the cap, and nobody else needs extensions before him except Bridges, plus only 1 year of overlap with the Hayward deal. They have tons of money to pay him if they want. I can't see them moving him any time soon.

Yeah as DeJesus also said it isn’t like the Knicks gave up much value. My take was more toward the “OMG the Knicks got CAM REDDISH for THAT??” Yup bc that’s about his value right now…..very little.

Eh, if the season ended today, the 1st would convey & the Hawks/whoever ends up with the pick could draft an AJ Griffin or something.

Sidenote: I will be disappointed if the Nuggets don't draft Nikola Jovic.

Obviously whiffing on the Reddish pick hurts, but this year Trae is having a much better year than Luka. Whether that continues going forward, who knows, but overweight and out of shape Luka could be a thing.

Luka’s biggest problem has been his ankles as he hasn’t been 100% all year. Like Lillard, Middleton, Tatum and others, spending your short offseason preparing for and competing in the Olympics is an awful way to prepare for the NBA season.

Being a fat is hard on one's ankles.

He should get it together eventually, though, & it's always going to be a terrible trade. Even though Trae is much better than I thought he would be. Getting an extra pick in the 2019 draft just not a valuable thing.

I think there are only 2 players in that draft that I would say Trae + that player is more valuable going forward than Luka - Zion & Ja. Behind them, I'm not even sure who's the the 3rd most valuable player in that draft?

Of course, it was always a 2 player draft (or maaaaaybe 3 if you count RJ).

Of course and like I said, having an abnormal offseason contributes to poor conditioning leading into the season especially if diet is also an issue (which seems to be likely in Luka’s case). Players either come to camp worn down physically and mentally from not having proper rest or physically out of condition from too much rest bc some feel doing absolutely nothing for 6 weeks is what “rest” consists of which is also a poor approach.

I think at this point it’s pretty clearly Darius Garland. He’s having a really good year.

Garland is closer to that top two than most people realize. He took a massive leap last year and is finally gaining recognition now that Sexton is out and his numbers better reflect his incredible skillset

Oops, missed Garland on skim. Y'all are correct he's the 3rd best.

Wouldn't trade Luka for Trae + Garland, though.

He was out of shape before last season, too. At some point one has to own their conditioning.

Was he though? In his first full month last year he avg 28/10/10 at 35mpg. I know he was clearly overweight and banged up to start this year but I’ll take last years out of shape all day when he was an MVP candidate.

Idk, he admitted to being out of shape early last year & I recalled it being a storyline.

I love Doncic, but at some point I think he needs to start taking conditioning more seriously. He's only 22. It should not be that hard to stay in shape.

I'm curious what PHI would want in that deal.. Fox + what?

Simmons is the better player, but he doesn't want to be there. Could SAC get it done for Fox and a 1st? I doubt it, but who knows.
Offering more than Fox seems like competing amongst yourself but I guess there are the John Collins rumors. Those had Cam in them but I doubt he'd be the hang up.

If they were willing to take on the Harris deal and supply Barnes and draft capital probably.

I also assume CJ and picks is there whenever they want it, just a question of how many, as is just not making a deal and waiting until the summer over making a bad deal.

I think that's the deal (Bill) Simmons was talking about the other day except with Haliburton instead of Fox...

Kings get:
Simmons ($33m)
Harris ($36m)

76ers get:
Haliburton ($4m)
Hield ($22.8m)
Barnes ($20.3m)
Bagley ($11.3m)
TT ($9.7m)
1st round pick
