Jared Goff: the REAL deflator (as to the first round picks)

Wonder how much of Stafford's view of NE is Belichick and how much is Patricia? Have to think he wants no part of Patricia given the mess there the last few years

Curran blows with the wind and plays faster and looser with his reporting as the years push on, he was refuting the Patricia factor as a significant issue for Stafford just this past week.

Stafford very well may have not wanted to come to NE, but Curran is unreliable.

That article is pure click bait. Curran recently was downplaying the Patricia factor in Stafford's ability to come to New England.

Maybe it's less that Patricia is in NE and more that Stafford may have seen Patricia as indicative of how Belichick operates and wants no part of that "culture" now that the Pats are rebuilding and not necessarily contenders.

I would totally understand if Stafford didn't want to go to a rebuilding team whether it's the Patriots, WFT, Carolina, etc. But to say he'd go anywhere but NE would indicate, if true, that he does not want to deal with the culture that Belichick has. I find that ridiculous since he's been in an absolute awful organization for his whole career which is why I don't believe Curran's report.

Yeah, but maybe out of all the awful coaches and systems he played in, he hated Patricia's the most and believes he learned it at least in part from Bill.

I don't want the Patriots to pay, nor do I think that there's a snowball's chance in hell that they would pay, whatever it's going to take to land Stafford, anyway. So, if true, thank you Matt Stafford for ending the speculation.

The "only place he wouldn't play" part is where Curran missteps. It's easier to imagine a scenario where the Lions said, "here are the 6-8 teams that have expressed interest," and Stafford said that, of those, the only one he didn't want to go to was NE

It's all guesswork, anyway

Why doubt Curran's story? Stafford got an up close and personal look at Patricia at the tiller. Add in Brady opting to leave (or maybe being forced to leave in Stafford's view), and I can imagine Stafford telling the Lions up front that the Pats were a total non-starter. He probably figured the most wretched teams were already eliminated given his 2 years on his contract at this point.

Unreliable seems a little harsh way to describe a pretty good reporter. The basis of last week’s piece, IIRC, wasn’t that his sources said that Stafford was open to the Pats, rather that they said that the real source of most people’s frustration w Patricia in Detroit dated from his first season and that things had improved somewhat in the years since – hence his conclusion that Stafford may not necessarily be off the table.

Wonder if Amendola had anything to say about his time in New England. I’d thought it was positive, but...
I might be misremembering, but didn't Danny snipe a little at the organization after he left?

Edit: found it. Not really a snipe, but seems like he felt underappreciated by Bill and didn't really like the harsh environment but withstood it because he knew it'd bring the team a lot of wins.

Edit 2: now this one was definitely a snipe:

Wow this is disappointing. Amendola is not one of the guys I would have pegged as a "Shut up you never played the game" type.

Danny entered the league 7 years after the dynasty started and might be too young to understand that Brady was not the Brady he knows and owes those first 3 SB's to the Patriot way and a bunch of guys who probably now would like a word with Danny.

Iirc, Amendola’s last game as a Patriot was the Super Bowl loss to the Eagles. That might color his thinking also.

I think most players would agree with Amendola's take that putting up with "irascible Bill" is way more tolerable when an appearance in the Super Bowl is an imminent/realistic prospect.

IIRC, the guy whose name is on the trophy that BB wins a lot had a similar rep.

HOF Guard Jerry Kramer has always had great stories of the ilk you mean about Lombardi. Plenty of the other Packers too, but Kramer is by far the most quoted. More often than not though, I think the old Packers say the winning was worth it.
