That makes NY even thinner at 1B, Voit who they had literally traded at the deadline before the other team backed out, LeMahieu who is way preferable at 2B and maybe Andujar who has barely played there and is unlikely to survive the winter on the 40 man. Olson? Freeman? Rizzo?

T&P, but Gittens was never a real thing. AAAA all the way. Japan feels like a great choice for him.

A fan revolt that eliminated some of the absolute morons playing couch GM would be nice, but it sure seems like Correa is out there if they want him (at a mega price, admittedly).

Do NYY fans care about Correa slamming Jeter?
Correa — a free agent who’s been tabbed as a potential signing for the Yankees — recently said that Derek Jeter didn’t deserve to win any of the five Gold Gloves he did in pinstripes.

Curtis Granderson is a candidate for the Mets managerial job, one of many people I mentioned as preferable to Boone during his initial hiring process. Granderson was I think still barely playing by then so maybe impossible back then. Can we trade Boone for him now?

Looks like the Yankees were very interested in Suzuki. Rumors are the Sox, LA, and Yankees are the main suitors. Let's not lose this one, eh?

So Stanton back to DH full time or just assume Hicks will get injured and rotate them a lot?

I'm not convinced the Yankees really are in on Suzuki, but if they are, I think Hicks would be fine as the 4th outfielder, and Stanton would still get some time in the OF. If he's healthy, which is always a concern, Hicks would still get plenty of ABs.

Stanton seems to hit better when he's in the OF.

Edit: I don't think Stanton needs a ton of time in the OF though. I'd be happy with 2-3 starts per week and DH the rest. That gives plenty of DH ABs to rest other guys.

Yeah I don't think they're really in on Suzuki. If he could play center maybe, but he can't.

That's interesting. I know he typically plays RF, but I thought I read that Suzuki could also play CF.

If the Yankees think he is a legit, real talent and want to pursue him, I guess they could still find enough coverage of CF between Hicks, Judge and (probably) Gallo. I think signing Suzuki would likely mean that they don't anticipate resigning Gallo after this next season. Could be a hedge against not being able to resign Judge too.

Yeah, that's interesting. I just think they need to fix the infield, the OF and pitching staff seem like much lesser concerns.

I agree and have zero doubt that fixing the infield is the biggest priority for Cashman.

That said, depending on how things develop with Judge and Gallo after this next season, OF could quickly become an issue. I wouldn't mind seeing Cashman do something a year early to mitigate the risk of losing both, though I don't think Suzuki is really the guy for that. A natural CF would be preferable.

I guess more than anything I'm curious about how the Yankees assess Suzuki. Since he isn't a perfect fit, if they make a strong move for him I'll be excited that their assessment of his ability is pretty damn high.

From Mike Axisa’s latest Patreon:

“Here, just to lay it all out, is what the coaching staff looks like at the moment:

Manager: Aaron Boone
Bench coach: Carlos Mendoza
First base coach: TBA
Third base coach: Luis Rojas
Hitting coaches: Dillon Lawson, TBA, TBA
Pitching coaches: Matt Blake and Desi Druschel
Bullpen coach: Mike Harkey
Catching coach: Tanner Swanson”

NY will need to wait for managerial jobs to fill, but I would love for them to grab any or all of Beltran or Granderson or Raul Ibanez, make up new titles but get them on board.

NY filled the last three spots on their coaching staff, two internal promotions and old buddy Eric Chavez, who was mentioned for managerial jobs a few years ago.

Six of those eleven are new to the MLB team, everyone between Druschel and Chapman in that graphic.

Not really into talking baseball since the two sides can’t even be bothered to meet, but Jim Callis predicted Anthony Volpe will be the #1 overall prospect in MLB at the end of the season.

“ No. 1 prospect at the end of the year

Callis: Anthony Volpe

"I don’t think there’s any way Anthony Volpe gets to the big leagues this year. At least not enough to release his rookie status. ... This is a guy who just had an unbelievable year. Among the Minor League leaders in just about every category: 27 homers, 33 steals. I think he could wind up having that year again, very similar to what Bobby Witt Jr. just had … and he might be in the running for Pipeline Hitter of the Year, too."”

Looks like it was announced today that Volpe will be starting at AA this season.

Yeah, they are really set up throughout the system at SS, except of course the MLB starter.

Utility infielder, MLB (Tyler Wade’s role): Oswaldo Cabrera

AAA: Oswald Peraza
AA: Anthony Volpe
high A: Trey Sweeney
low A: Alex Vargas

signing this weekend at long last: Roderick Arias

All five probably top 150 overall MLB prospects, Sweeney more likely a 3B long-term but the others all potentially long-term shortstops.

Oh FFS. Maybe Maybin and Nelson are really good. I don't think Flaherty is much competition.

Is Cone only doing Sunday Night Baseball, or is he still working a reduced slate of Yankees games? I'll miss him in the YES booth.

Cone I think is down from 90 to 50 Yankee games, I am not positive but pretty sure that Jeff Nelson did some a while back and was bad.

Flaherty is also a snoozefest without much to say, I will vote for all of Beltran/Maybin and the not mentioned above Curtis Granderson if he'll do it (he turned down a bench coach interview with the Mets two weeks ago), whoever sounds the smartest gets the manager job after Boone. Until that happy day, those three and Cone can cover the 162 nicely, two or sometimes one per game plus a play by play guy. Kay is at his best when there are multiple former players next to him.

Oh, did I say 162? Still sticking with my guess of a 130 game season this year, good job again all around.
