They should probably sign Haaland [insert Fonz emoji]

Edit: And now you may go back to chillaxing and looking ahead to your UCL final against...[checks notes] VILLARREAL?!??
Careful you get scolded around here for wanting to solve your teams major problem.

mane I can’t relax because this should be 5-1 and now it’s 3-2

Nobody plays more entertaining games than Real Madrid. Holy smokes.

What was going on there? Was that a case of Benzema just terrifying the City backline so much, nobody stepped up to stop the surging Vinicius?

Oh, please. You don’t get scolded for “wanting to solve your teams major problem”. You get scolded for appearing to believe the shiniest, most expensive players are your birthright.
This is not a fair assessment of Teddy, who I think does a fine job dealing with the enormous amount of dislike (fair or unfair) directed at his club.

I don’t have the time nor patience for this argument but I said nothing of the sort. My post was in jest anyway try to relax about it.

Fubo has been down for me for the last 10 minutes so at least I got to miss the Vinicius goal

You realize Haaland has been closely linked to City and indications are it’s set? It’s not like he’s just saying it for sake of saying it.

Half the Real players looked like they thought the whistle was blown, but ref played advantage. Problem was Courtois seemed to stop.

If the ref never blew the whistle, the players shouldn't have stopped. It's not City's problem that Real wasn't playing through the whistle. You could argue that Real's shock at the no-call led them to stop contesting, but that doesn't really mean anything.

I’ve been a lukewarm advocate for fuboTV but the stream has been down for only this game for the entire 2nd half and it’s infuriating

I’ve been trying to pay attention in a zoom meeting with the match on. Was impossible. This is some epic shit.

Lol, what? That is a pretty standard sentiment. I'm pretty sure every supporter of a club on here said something like "I just want them to sign this player they have been linked with so the team is better!"
If you don’t think such a a statement sounds like entitlement, and subsequent statements like “careful…”after being called on it don’t sound like “playing the victim”and don’t make you roll your eyes, then we’ll have to agree to disagree.

Real has played in some dramatic matches during this UCL knock-out phase. The second leg should be epic.

Maybe I shouldn't be, but I'm stunned at how bad Real Madrid defend the cross ball. They really are dire given the level they play at.
Madrid have been really unimpressive in the UCL and badly outplayed frequently; having only reached the semis thanks to spectacular fuck-ups by their opponents and other-wordly play from Modric and Benzema.

Yeah, it was unintentional but he had his arm high up in a stupid (unnatural) position.
Finally getting to see it. I can see why it’s given but it looks like it goes off his head first, isn’t the rule supposed to consider that? There’s no reasonable interpretation where he intentionally heads it ball to hand.

Not questioning it much just one of those really lousy situations where the team gains no advantage and there’s clearly no intent and yet the handball rule falls short.

Here’s the rule (the FA’s version, I assume the UCL is the same but not sure how that works). Note that a “handball offense” can be called for either intentional touches, or when the player: “touches the ball with their hand/arm when it has made their body unnaturally bigger. A player is considered to have made their body unnaturally bigger when the position of their hand/arm is not a consequence of, or justifiable by, the player’s body movement for that specific situation. By having their hand/arm in such a position, the player takes a risk of their hand/arm being hit by the ball and being penalised.”

Since his arm was extended all the way out, the argument would have to be that the arm extension was a consequence of his movement, i.e. jumping to head the ball, and it’s a natural place for the arm to be when jumping like that. That’s probably not a winning argument, and the rule puts the onus on the player by saying the extension of the arm creates a risk it gets hit by the ball, which presumably is the case even if the last touch before the handball was off the player’s head.

thanks for linking the current rule. I think there was an update a few years back as described here: https://www.goal.com/en-us/news/how-does-the-new-handball-rule-work-football-rules-explained/baj7pi2kk191qyeu9ay8wlrn where they used to disqualify handball calls if it came off the player but they seem to have removed that qualifier in one of the subsequent updates to the rule

RM seem to expect the ref to give the free kick, instead Bernardo Silva knocks it in
RM has given up 7 goals in consecutive matches vs Chelsea/City
Manchunian children rushing the pitch in the 90th minute?

I know it is already super compelling.

But I want the away goals rule back, if just to enjoy Real trying really hard next week to win a game 1-0 or 2-1 against a team they look like they have no chance of defending successfully.

I can't help but feel that even though Citeh won the Match, Real won the day...heading to Madrid to defend a 1 goal lead seems far scarier than it should for Pep and his band...

Especially given Pep’s well known penchant to overthink big UCL matches.

Yeah, this is pretty obvious to anyone who watched. I haven't been this excited about seeing the xG for a match in quite some time. My best guess: MANC 4.8 - Real 1.6.

Especially given Pep’s well known penchant to overthink big UCL matches.
Pep is done with galaxy brain...he's going full supernova brain for this one.

Konate & Diaz in for LFC. The evil Sadio Mane at the 9 suggests Liverpool expect to hold a lot of possession and will look to the wings for attacking thrust.
