His team is really lousy, and I'm not saying he is really in the conversation, but Deshaun Watson is having an amazing season. 4,400 yards, 30 TDs to 6 INTs, leading the league in Y/A and AY/A while completing 70 percent of his passes. Also has rushed for more than 400 yards. Houston ranks 30th in rushing, and they of course traded away the best WR in football in the off-season.

In a related note, Brandin Cooks is just 16 yards away from joining Brandon Marshall as the only people to have 1,000+ receiving yards for four different teams.
Cooks is a really good NFL receiver. He just isn't a #1, which is what some people think he should be. But he's really good. I wish he was still on NE.

After all of the narratives and hot takes about Brady, with one week to go in his first season on a new team, he's the 3rd ranked QB by PFF, 4th in DYAR, 4th in DVOA and 5th in EPA/play. At 43 it's a pretty major success, especially in a new offense where he's throwing the ball farther on average than any other QB. It's like Michael Jordan performing like a top 5 player while becoming a 3 point shooter for the Wizards.

At 43, it's an absolutely stunning achievement.

I feel like I have seen Brady throw deep through out his career. The fact that he's still playing like this at 43 is incredible, but I don't think he has been doing anything particularly new.

Agreed; to do what he's doing at 43 is mind boggling, I don't care what weapons he has/how he walked into a loaded situation, to perform at the level he has at his age when you consider how QB's are on the back nine in their late 30's................he's remarkable, a once in a lifetime talent.

None of his Y/A, A/NYA, Y/A+, A/NYA+, or similar stats are career highs or even out of line with, say, 2017-18. It's amazing that he's doing it at 43, of course. It was also amazing when he put up 4577 passing yards to lead the league at age 40 in 2017.

It feels like Max Kellerman has to eventually be a correct stopped clock, and that Brady will eventually show the effects of age. But he's sure doing his best to put the lie to that.

Imagine if after torturing the Bills for 19 years, he leaves the AFC, then the Bills and Bucs meet in the Super Bowl.....................and the torturing continues.

He's leading the league in air yards/attempt while ranking 29th in yards after catch/attempt. This is very much a new style of offense for him. He's thrown deep in his career, for sure, he just hasn't thrown deep more than literally every other QB in the league in a season while getting very little yardage after the catch.

Do you think favorable weather and domes has anything to do with this?

I think that's part of it, but like Rodderick said, I think it also has a lot to do with Arians' offense, and guys like Mike Evans, Antonio Brown, Chris Godwin, Scotty Mitchell and Gronk being out there to catch the ball too.

I don't remember him throwing deep as often as he is now, except maybe in 2007, when he had Randy Moss out there running under everything.

In 2017 Brady threw deep a lot too, because they had Cooks and Edelman missed the whole season.

He finished the year with 40 TD's for the second time in his career (that is mind boggling). 12 picks, but today's was a damn fluke.

Still, what a year for Brady. Going to love watching playoff Tom with weapons again!

Brady last 4 games: 94-136 (69.1%), 1,333 yds, 12 td, 1 fluke int, 126.9 rating

He's rolling. But the Evans injury may be huge for them.

It's definitely big, but just means Godwin and Brown need to step up. I don't think it'll hinder them too much. They have obscene weapons.

What’s weird about this team is that I could imagine them winning the SB and losing in the first round of the playoffs equally.

If the offense plays like it has played for the last month, I would be shocked if they lost in the first round. I mean they are getting the NFC East champ.

That would be an incredible outcome for Tampa Bay, considering what it looked like when his knee was buckling out from under him so he couldn't walk.
Shouldn't they be able to beat the Giants or the WFT w/o Evans, if he just needs a week off?

They should, but the Giants have already played them tough and the WFT has a great D Line. These Bucs can lose to any team in the playoffs, their pass defense isn't nothing to write home about and they can't really run the ball. On the other hand, if their offense is humming they can kill any team.

Would kind of like to see him face the Giants, curious if he can get over that bogey man

Brady and the various weapons on the Bucs have only recently begun to hit their stride. That game vs the Giants was in the Before Times. They will destroy any NFCE team, with or without Evans.

After a relatively slow start to the year, Gronk ended up posting nearly identical numbers to his last year on the Pats (45 catches and 623 yards this year vs 47 catches and 682 yards in 2018), but with more than double the TDs (7 to 3). Count this as a bigger surprise than Brady hitting the 40 TD mark for just the second time - I figured Gronk would mostly be limited to blocking and red zone duty, and maybe he benefited from playing with a much better supporting cast, but he was mighty impressive this year. He also played in all 16 games for the first time since 2011.

This Saturday night could be a curious game. Washington's greatest strength could wreck Tom (hasn't Tampa's OL been spotty?)

And if Evans is compromised, we know how Tom can get too locked onto a guy, although he has several elite options this time around.

I recall, the sentiment that Joe Montana going to KC and winning 11 games at 37 settled the GOAT argument once and for all.

When healthy their OL has been good. The question with Tampa is how quickly they'll go away from the deep passing game if Washington is getting pressure. If they run the Brady offense they're going to be fine I think.

Favorable weather, yes. Tampa Bay does not play in a dome, so that’s an odd question.
I think he knows that, but they did play 3 games in domes this season and another in retractable roof stadium, versus 14 dome games in his career prior to this year. That's a healthy chunk, and he killed in those games--122.3 rating.

Like other snowbords Brady has found he prefers warmer climes as he winters down south.

Really, a remarkable season. With the rumors that Brees will retire after this year, Brady's gonna have that TD record all to himself.

Assuming Brady plays at least one more year and doesn't fall off a cliff or suffer an injury that costs him significant playing time, he'll likely go over 600 TD passes next year, which is remarkable.

He also has a realistic shot at ending his career with 100 more TDs than Brett Favre (he needs 27 more), and an outside shot at finishing with 100 more than Manning (58 more).

He's gonna get the passing yards record as well. Both will eventually be broken because the league is just bonkers now and guys like Mahomes will average 38-45 TDs and 4800 yards a season for a decade, especially with 17 games. Still, I don't know of a sport in which the owner of the top spot in all its major statistical categories is also the winningest player. Pretty special.

What I really love about Brady breaking all the records is this: For a long time, the debate was between Brady (who was about winning) and Manning (who was about stats). Peyton won the stat battle while Brady won the championship battle.

But soon, Brady will own both the winning AND the stat battle.

I also love that while for many years Peyton's overall rating was better than Brady's, Brady's was still better both outdoors and indoors. Now, of course, Brady's overall passer rating tops Peyton's as well.

Where does Brady rank in the pantheon of athletes in their 40s?

He might be #1. Foreman won a heavyweight title. Tiger & Nicklaus won the Masters. Nolan Ryan did well for a large part of his 40s. I know I'm missing others who did well.

But, Brady has had close to a Hall of Fame career just from his age 40 - 43 years and looks like he'll keep going, if he wants.

Man, I need him to keep going, so I have a pro athlete older than I am!

For some perspective...

Joe Montana retired at the age of 38. Through age 38, Brady was already the GOAT, having passed Montana. But from age 39-43, here's what Brady has done:

- 58-18 record
- 5 playoff appearances
- 3 conference championships (age 39, 40, 41)
- 2 Super Bowl championships (age 39, 41)
- 1 Super Bowl MVP (age 39)
- 2 passing yards records set in a SB (age 39, and then did it again at age 40)
- 3 pro-bowls (age 39, 40, 41 - got screwed out of it at age 43)
- 1 all-pro (age 40)
- 1 MVP (age 40)
- passing stats: 1,825-2,806 (65.0%), 21,176 yds, 153 td, 41 int, 99.8 rating

I mean, these five years have been one hell of a *career*. But it's just on top of what he'd already done to cement his status as the GOAT.
