One thing that I remember whenever I read Brady's social media posts: Gisele spoke a while ago about how much she loved him from the moment they first met, and that her one overwhelming takeaway from him was his innocent naiveté. I don't think Brady is a particularly deep thinker outside of football, I think his commitment to grinning positivism works for him as an athlete but is odd and inappropriate for people with real problems, and that he doesn't live in the real world. He's always been a dork, nothing can change that about him despite his success, and his trust in others and simple messaging leads to things like this.

He is an adult and should know better. I do not think he is mean-spirited or racist like Schilling, far from it. I think he's a pretty nice guy all things considered, but I think he's incredibly out of touch with reality.

He is responsible for his own words and actions. He should be more aware.

But we should also maybe just not pay attention to his non-football views, since we are in pretty universal agreement that he's either wrong or out of touch or whatever other similar word we want to use. I mean, paying attention to that and letting it bother us is not on him; that's on us.

I remember when 2016 rolled around and there was a pic of him at the polling place when he voted (he posed with two workers at their request). He went on EEI for his Monday call in as always and was befuddled why anyone cared about who he voted for. This was in the wake of Trump claiming Brady had endorsed him, and Gisele going on Twitter and saying hell no they didn't vote for Trump. That he was befuddled as to why people might be interested in his vote showed that he's just not all that plugged into anything that's not football.

There has never been a whisper from anyone, either teammates or former teammates or associations or anyone, that he's racist or a bully or anything like that. He seems to be a pretty good guy in his personal interactions. James Harrison, of all people, said even he was won over in his six weeks here after hating Brady his entire career. But being not a racist doesn't mean he can't do better.

Here's the thing about Brady, whether or not there is any correlation between the TB12 method and Guerrero and Brady's longevity, Brady clearly and sincerely believes that there is. And honestly the fact that he's still playing at a very high level at his age is evidence of . . . something. Maybe it is Brady's DNA, luck, pliability, diet, concussion water, or a combination of all of the above. But I think we can safely say that when Brady peddles the TB12 method, which is parts useful and parts garbage, he honestly believes it works and everyone would be healthier, physically and mentally, if they did what he did.

So to me this is an extension of that same sentiment. I think he believes that people should wear masks and hand wash and take reasonable precautions to prevent the spread of COVID, but at the same time he doesn't think people should lock themselves away because for him, that would be absolutely debilitating to his own mental health. Personally we've been balancing this with our own family, so I can relate to the sentiment. That said, the post itself is obviously a bad look because the data is wrong, the point can be made without referencing suicide at all, and because it can be construed to mean he thinks COVID is not a big deal, even though he doesn't say that directly. I do wish he would shut up about this kind of stuff and the other quackery he occasionally mentions.

Anyway, Brady is who he is. YMMV but this one doesn't move the needle for me in terms of my own view of Brady as an immensely talented football player and a super-weird guy with whom I am pretty sure I have absolutely nothing in common. Love to see him play football, don't really care much for his off the field persona so long as we don't get too much closer to Schilling territory.
Not directed at you, but the idea that so many people have that "here's what i did, and if you follow it you'll have the same success" mentality.

Lots of people have been looking for reasons to hate on Brady since he left and I really don’t get it. That post is pretty obviously just saying “we’re all focused on covid, but don’t forget about mental health problems.” If he was trying to endorse any right wing maga talking point, he did it in a super unclear way so I’m gonna guess that wasn’t his intention at all. Any comparisons to schilling are absolutely ridiculous

At this point America has reached the "What happens in a zombieverse when they've eaten all the brains?" stage of the script.

I think many of us figured Tom out somewhat years ago. He's a well-intentioned, insanely focussed and competitive Alpha. It's been twenty years and I haven't heard a teammate/coach/civilian speak ill of the guy beyond other players hating him because of a loss or losses they've suffered at his hands. He's in the upper reaches of American society, in another ecosystem, so he's going to misstep now and then when he reaches out. Put this down as a misstep. Pulling it is somewhat of an acknowledgement that the tweet missed the mark. You'd like more clarification, but I'm satisfied that he didn't double down. If a pattern starts emerging going further down this path then it'll be time for me to rethink the relationship to Brady. Right now I just wish he was still with the Pats.

I think this is very well said.

Just because Brady may be well-intentioned should not exclude the fact that he has absolutely no idea what the hell he is talking about when it comes to subjects outside of football. Or, at the very least, there is no reason at all to give him the benefit of the doubt on those subjects. In fact, we have a fair amount of evidence that we should not be doing that at all.

No. I wont speak for anyone else. I found it reprehensible because the comparison to suicide (or just about any other bad thing they can think of) happens to be a method similar to those who downplay Covid entirely, or who use the fear of everyone killing themselves because they can't go to bars as a reason to LIBERATE NOW. At best its an unfortunate and ignorant coincidence.
From what I have read, suicidal ideation has gone through the roof post-COVID (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7430225/) and while I am not the biggest Brady fan (he was a bit of weirdo douche while he was here) I don't read into that post as him saying "COVID restrictions are dumb and making people kill themselves!" I read it has him saying "COVID is leading to a spike in depression and suicides so please mask up and wash your hands so we can get out of these dark woods sooner than later." His data points directly comparing COVID deaths to suicides were inaccurate but the sentiment I think he was trying to express is correct. Also, we are all idiots for looking to Tom Brady for public health stats.

And, yes, I am on team wanting Brady to set fire to the league. To the extent I watch the NFL at this point, it is all about the entertainment value. The bits of Bucs games I have watched this year have been entertaining as hell.

@Leather, I will be chuckling at your "he a'ight" for a while ;).

Pretty good month for Tom: 66.0%, 1,157 yds, 12 td, 1 int, 110.0 rating
Oh yeah?

Cam Newton's October: 65.0%, 255 yds, 0 td, 5 int, 43.2 rating, 1 positive COVID test

Sigh. Really interested to see how AB gets integrated into that offense. Godwin is out so we won't see their true potential for a few weeks. And we'll see if AB can even last that long.

Yep. The death star is not yet fully operational. When it is, look out.

Plus...they have a top-level defense. #8 in points allowed, #3 in yards allowed.

They're #2 in the league in point differential, and #1 in the league in yardage differential. They are, in my opinion, the team that will emerge from the NFC and reach the Super Bowl. Seattle is elite, but their defense is crap. Now getting some players back in the secondary and adding Dunlap will definitely help, so we will see how that works out for them. And Green Bay is tough (but TB absolutely waxed GB a couple of weeks ago). But what's happening in Tampa right now....they're my favorite in the NFC.

Imagine seeing Brady, Gronkowski and Brown yucking it up on the podium after their Super Bowl victory.

It goes without saying 2020 has been an absolute tire fire of a year for everyone due to COVID; imagine a sports year where the Lakers, Dodgers with Betts and Buccaneers with Brady, Gronkowski and Brown all win championships.

I know there are many Boston sports fans who are happy for Betts and will be happy for Brady, but I personally really can't envision a worse scenario.

But hey, that's just me..............................

If the Pats can't win it, I'm rooting for Tom. I know he's a goofball and believes some weird things. I love him as a football player. I was happy for Betts (though it sucked seeing him win it for someone else), and I'd be happy for Tom and Gronk (though again, not as fun seeing them win it in another uniform). At least in both cases it wouldn't be in an archival uniform (like the Yankees or Ravens).

Yup. And it's not even really about Tom. Look at the top AFC teams:

Chiefs
Steelers
Ravens
Titans
Bills

We should all be rooting for Tom vs. any of those franchises except maybe Tennessee who I no longer hate since the Fisher stink is gone from them.

I know it's crazy, but of those five teams you listed, the one I hate the least is.... Buffalo. An in-division rival. I dunno...for some reason I just don't despise them like I do the other teams (Ten would be second least). Still...I'd root for Tampa over Buffalo easy in this scenario.

The Betts and Brady leaving and winning elsewhere scenarios are what sports talk radio dreams are made of.

I can hear them already beating the "So who's really responsible for the Six Super Bowl titles; Brady or Belichick?"............................

Yeah, I don’t really dislike this Bills team at all but I’ll never root for another AFCE team to win it all. I’m petty like that.

I would 100% root for Tampa should they get to the Super Bowl; I'd take no satisfaction from Brady losing in the Super Bowl and it would be tremendous to hear Steeler and Chiefs fans moaning about how they finally got Brady out of the AFC and he still beats us in the Super Bowl.

It will be a circus around here if Tampa gets to the Super Bowl.

Oh that's been going on forever, right? It's not really a fair question, though it is a fun one. Brady leaves and immediately goes to a team with a load of talent. BB is trying to rebuild. They're in very different places organizationally. I imagine that BB will get more bites at the apple than Brady will, though, because I suspect BB's coaching career will last longer than TB's playing career. But players make the plays (or not) on the field.

They won six because they were TOGETHER - the greatest coach and greatest QB in league history. Take them apart and you won't see the same level of success. Yes, TB could win a SB without BB, and BB could win a SB without TB, but to win SIX of them, over an uber-dominant 19-year period...that came because they were together.

I am all in on the TB train if the Patriots can't win anything this year. Brady has provided so much for my sports fandom, of course I'll root for his continued success. Seeing him continue to kill it at 43 is a privilege.

I give him all the credit in the world; as you said, he's performing at this level at age FORTY THREE.

And I don't want to hear from anyone "But look at the talent around him"..................nonsense.

He has the God given ability to elevate the talent around him.

He's done a lot more with less.

He's without a doubt the greatest QB to ever play the game.

It's not even debatable anymore, not that it was in my mind prior to this year.

He's just an incredible talent and goes far beyond his ability to throw the football; his quick release and ability to read defenses, process that and find the open guy is what separates him from others.

If he was still here, I'd venture to guess they'd be 4-2, maybe 5-1, not 2-4.

I love Cam as a person, such an engaging personality and I badly wanted him to succeed here, but it's sad to see he's just not the same QB anymore and the difference between him and Brady is glaring.

As you said, it clearly was and still is a privilege to see Brady as a QB.

For the upcoming Super Bowl, I'm rooting for the Patriots (hahaha), Brady (he's almost universally the GOAT, but another SB victory might finally stomp out the embers of Montana, etc.), and, if an AFC team wins, it's the Bills for me and it's not even close. Yep, they're in the AFCE, but it's like the Red Sox/Yankee "rivalry" pre-2004. It hasn't been a rivalry and they've come close several times without pulling it off. I'd like to see them win - those fans have been really loyal for decades. They've earned it.

54thMA mentioned it above, but it's simply unreal that Brady is 43 and playing at this level. Growing up, Billy Kilmer struck me as an ancient QB and he was absolute toast at age 39. Peyton done at 39, Eli finished at 38 (hell, Archie blew a clutch at 35). TB's fellow ageless marvel - Drew Brees - almost retired last off-season and just ceded the all-time TD lead to TB and it has the feeling that they're done trading off the top spot - and Brees is 41. Watching Brady, he looks on and off the field like a 35 yo. Saying it's unprecedented might be a vast understatement.

I would be onboard with this if it weren't for AB. I can't bring myself to root for TB with AB (or for KC with Hill, for that matter).

The AB thing seems really dumb to me. The evidence of AB being a complete head case and bomb waiting to go off has significantly increased post Patriots. Teams should be even less interested in signing him than they were before. #2 - the Patriots were really desperate for offensive weapons when they signed AB. Tampa is not. So, there should be even less reason to gamble on this guy. It just doesn't make much sense to me at all.

I think Brady's stubborn enough to go back to that well because he may be upset that the Pats released AB after 11 days last year. He probably feels he's giving AB another "deserved" chance. Which, again, goes back to his bubble existence not grasping the implication of things beyond football.

Right, and I went to college in the midst of the Bills' four straight SB losses, so I have a soft spot for their fans who were by-and-large very nice people (but not the one who told me to "sit down and shut the fuck up" in the 1994 game in Buffalo after Bledsoe hooked up with Michael Timpson on a long throw).

A few years ago I was in Western New York visiting a friend, it was the first Sunday of the NFL season and we are at WalMart buying some alcohol, and we got in line behind a guy who had like, $250 worth of groceries ready to go. He let us cut in front of him and said "No reason to wait if you are just buying beer!" and so we went in front of him and he noticed I was wearing an Edelman shirt and he said something like "Oh no, I wouldn't have let you go ahead if I knew you were a Patriots fan!" I laughed it off and said that I had nothing against the Bills. Some one else in line piped up and said "Well you will in a few years when we turn the tables on ya!" and I just chuckled and hand-waived them away. They are Bills fans; how can you be mad at their blind optimism?

Myself and several of my friends had Patriots season tickets from the mid 1980's to the early 1990''s, I can vividly recall Bills fans invading Foxboro whenever the Patriots played the Bills..........they were for the most part loud, cocky and pretty arrogant considering they never won anything.

Buffalo makes Cleveland look like the city of champions.

Take the current roster, subtract the 20-25m in payroll from it they'd have had to lose to keep Brady instead of Cam, look at what the current roster is doing this year with covid and injuries on both sides of the line, no chance they'd be 5-1, highly unlikely they'd even be 4-2

This isn't meant to be a rhetorical question, what did they really do with the money saved by not resigning Brady? I don't recall much in the way of free agents. The biggest chunk probably went to Thuney. So, if Brady was here - he'd have been gone for sure, I'd think.

Didn’t Brady have a 20M dead cap hit this year?
