IIRC, Zolak also mentioned something about the $30M, and he is far more well connected inside the depths of Gillette than either Curran or Fauria.

Rapsheet reported the $30m number and Perry and Curran have bent over backwards to say they don't buy it. Silly season.
$30M is what I think Brady wants. Whether he will actually get it, that I am less confident.

the winner of the brady sweepstakes will most likely have to offer a 3-y deal let look at the finalsest

1 Tampa Bay why Tampa they don't play ne have 80 mil in cap 2 good wr 2 good te a coach that throws the ball with brady they will win the NFC South and couild be in sb 55 in tampa
2 las Vegas they might offer the most $$$$ can ne come close
3 new England if they offer 3y will be hard to beat

I forgot about the years. So, maybe it is the case that they were prepared to offer $30m for 1 year. I'd love to see 3 years for $45 million. Spread the cap hit out :) Not going to happen, of course, but it'd be nice to see.

Three years all sounds good for Brady's camp until folks realize that he's a 42 year old quarterback who has never played for a coach not named Belichick.

This is one of those latter-year Jeter/Ortiz situations. He's worth far more to the incumbent franchise than to any other team bidding for his services.

Agree. Don’t see a team signing him to ‘fill seats’- how many more Chargers ‘fans’ are going to show up to see Brady?

Having Brady would completely change the level of visibility and media exposure for any team. The Chargers have a tiny presence in a huge market, they're a perfect fit from a marketing perspective.

Absolutely. It would drum up a lot of interest in the team while they are presumably trying to get tickets sold for their new stadium. It probably would give them more of a chance for prime time games.

The timing seems really perfect for them.

A few weeks ago, Zolak also said Dallas is possibility because they have a great coach and great owner.

He has been all over the place on this. I don't think he has any more insight or knowledge on this topic than the average person.

Yeah, I'm not buying it. The one place in this country that wont come out in droves to see a semi-washed up star is LA. Theres enough to do and enough star power in LA that "42 year old Tom Brady" wont be moving the needle for LA fans.

I'm not buying the Dallas talk. McCarthy had issues with an all-time great who liked things handled "just so" in Green Bay. And he's going to get along with Brady?

Im more into the Vegas stuff.Jettison Carr, bring in a name, draft a replacement so that in 2 years or so they have a QB still on a rookie deal

Sorry if this has posted already, but Zolak is saying the Giants are “in play” for Brady.
Yes I heard him this morning say that. He said he heard it from someone plugged in that is not part of Brady's camp. I mean it's not that crazy. Gisele would love to be in NY full-time, they already have property in NYC and maybe in Greenwich. If he wants to rub it in Bill's face, the Giants are the place to do it because it's a place Bill reveres. NYG has over $60 million in cap space and easily could create more space. They have a good running game, decent receivers, and have the money to upgrade the OL and any defensive woes. The division isn't great.

If that were to happen, #23 for Daniel Jones? I have no idea how the Patriots evaluated him coming out of Duke, but I have to think he checks some of their boxes.

Why would the Giants do that? He's a ready-made backup, with a year's experience, on a rookie contract.

Because if you're signing Brady, you're in GFIN mode and you can use that 1st round pick on an impact player?

I just don't think the Giants are going to spend a high pick on Jones, see him play decently (numbers similar to Brady, and yes, different circumstances, I know), then bring in Brady.

So far this offseason this thread has the NC champs team cutting the QB that helped get them there and having the Giants bench their high draft choice, that they just booted a franchise icon out of town for, to sign a 42 year old.

Neither seems realistic at all to me. But, I've been surprised before.

Are you kidding me? In Frontrunner City? They'd pour in to the new stadium. You'd have Hollywood celebrities telling interviewers about how devastated they were when the Chargers left LA in the first place. They'd be front page news for at least a week. Which is about a month more than they've had since they moved north to start with.

If it was that easy to throw $60 MM around (and Brady takes up at least a third of that) and upgrade OL AND defensive woes, the Giants probably wouldn't have won 12 games total in the last three seasons combined - the same as the Pats did in 2019 alone.

I agree there are non-football reasons it would make sense for Brady. I don't think it makes football sense on either end.

Somewhat off the primary topic, but it’s not like there has been a lot of “substance” the last 100 posts anyways...

We debated this at work today. I know where I come out. It was pretty split and heated on both sides....

If Brady signs with the Raiders (or call it Team X), and that team makes the Super Bowl (obviously assuming it’s not against NE), are you rooting for him to win or not? Let’s assume he wouldn’t be playing against some team like Pitt or Baltimore, which could skew the intended question’s answer.

Is this even a question? I rooted for Jimmy Garoppolo in the SB this year and he started two games for the Patriots.

This stuff is so odd. Brady has Edelman's phone number and could have texted him this. He obviously wants this message public. He's trolling everyone for giggles.

It's quite funny actually.
The level of playing with NE fans and media on social leads me to believe there’s good odds this is mostly a publicity stunt.

He gets more eyes on his TB12 Instagram page than he ever would otherwise.

I don’t see him as a guy who teases and then leaves. Having followed his entire run, that’s just not who he is.

Until proven otherwise I will assume that TB is trolling the league, particularly the teams that think they stand a chance of landing him. It took all or most of them to gang up on NE to make sure Brady was punished for his crime of not being a deity capable of reversing the laws of physics. Cutthroat competitors tend to have their black belt in petty as well. Leading them on with no intention of playing for them would be something a competitor with a massive chip on his shoulder would do. So that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Put me in the returning camp. I can’t see him going full Gronk and tease and tease all while planning his exit. Gronk didn’t mean any ill by his trolling but has about 43% of the self awareness of TB.

edit: second what Traut said

Yes, legit question. It was split like 4-4 in my office. The arguments against were somewhat assuming he left to show BB he could win without him... and what it would feel like seeing him have a parade for another city, among other arguments

Fuck Matty P

I think you have to pretend it is like the Cardinals against Jacksonville - and pretend Coughlin isn’t there.
One of the great by-products of the past 20 years is that it’s really hard to come up with a “neutral” matchup that you don’t care about either way.

Fantastic point. Celebrating What Is.
We don't have to pretend. Pretty sure Coughlin was fired.

When you’re scrolling through Instagram/whatever and you see something from a friend that you want to respond to, you text or call them about it? That seems very weird to me.

Really? What if your response is to millions of people instead of one (or the few hundred or so followers your friend has). That makes it much more deliberate, no?

If Brady goes out in a gentlemanly way without a lot of self-created nonsense and without torching the organization on his way out (which is what I'm expecting, Instagram posts to JE aside), I'll definitely be rooting for him going forward.

Right, if Big Papi had signed with any team besides the MFY and Cardinals, we'd have rooted for him. Maybe even the Cardinals too.

This town had a parade for Ray Bourque winning one with another team, for chrissakes.

The toilet.
I can't believe any fan of the Patriots wouldn't root for Brady, regardless of where he goes.

I love the Patriots. They're my team. I appreciate everything that Kraft has done for this organization. I love Belichick, he's unquestionably the GOAT among coaches. But those guys are management.

Especially with Kraft, he is the NFL. The same bullshit organization that framed their marquee player to placate other rich owners. The same org that dismissed evidence of CTE, enabled opiate abuse and penalizes players for taking their helmets off because they don't want anyone being bigger than their game. Fuck management in general and especially fuck the evil that is the NFL leadership.

I'll root for Brady no matter where he goes, and fault him nothing. I have one team, but it's the players I care for. I pulled for Bledsoe when we was with the Bills and Cowboys. For Curtis with the Jets. For Flutie everywhere, including a terrible cereal. Anyone that calls themselves a Pats fan and won't root for the single greatest athlete in the sport, who's done almost everything right and brought us immeasurable joy is a god-damned monster and deserves to root for the fucking Browns for all of eternity.

I can speak for one Pats fan: me.

I can only root for the Patriots. They are my team and I don't have other teams I kind of like or can imagine adopting. Every other team is a potential obstacle to the Pats.

If Tom Brady leaves, I certainly wont hate him. But I would no sooner root for his team to do well than I would any other player's team not the Patriots. So while he will never become a villain, I will take no pleasure in his success in any way on a team other than the Pats.

And when he finally retires, I will probably go back to looking at him as my favorite athlete in any sport of all time. I think while he's playing for, say, the Cowboys, I wont think about him that way.

I don't know if that makes me a good fan, a bad one or what. But I own my rooting interest, which is for the laundry in NE.

The only exception to all that would be in a situation in which the Pats were eliminated. I rooted for Jimmy G to win the SB because I like him generally and, much more importantly, because I wish hellfire on the Chiefs. But in a week 11 game that has no particular bearing on the Pats, I wouldn't root for any player not wearing Pats colors.

Yes.
In the interest of trying to eliminate any biases, let’s assume he’s on the Titans and playing against the Lions.
Any team that isn't Pittsburgh, Baltimore or Dallas and I'm on the Brady train for a year or two.

Hell, I'm ready to have the Titans be my second team with Vrabel alone, add Brady and I'm Teen Titans Go if they aren't playing the Patriots.

Edit: Brady and BB together have done more for this franchise than I could have ever hoped or dreamed of when I was listening to them play Miami on the radio in 96 or 97 because they were blacked out on TV. Brady has been underpaid market value wise for years which has helped him get 6 Rings and this team looks like it is on the decline (it's going to happen folks) and Brady wants to get paid what he's worth and win his 7th and maybe have some fun doing it. As long as he doesn't go to a team that I personally sports hate, I'm rooting for the GOAT to succeed almost wherever he goes... including the Jets because recently I've enjoyed watching teams that haven't one in forever like the Eagles and KC win the Super Bowl if the Patriots can't.
