The last day or two has seen a string of bad news for Olympics organizers:

- Several athletes test positive
- Sponsor Toyota pulls ads in Japan due to public's opposition to the games
- Reps from top sponsors Panasonic, Fujitsu, and NEC will all skip opening ceremonies
- Opening ceremony composer withdraws due to uproar over past bullying
- Ugandan athlete goes missing
- S. Korean president cancels Olympics visit after Japanese diplomat's remarks

Plus, the *entirely predictable* heat is now palpable.

Poland swimmers outraged after being sent home from Tokyo Olympics due to country's error

Poland's national swimming team sent six athletes home from the Tokyo Olympic Games after selecting too many by mistake.

Poland picked 23 swimmers but had to trim its team to 17 to comply with qualifying rules for FINA, the international federation for water sports.

Cute apology. How isn’t it followed by a resignation?

USWNT gets destroyed by Sweden in soccer. Yikes. They got eliminated by Sweden in Rio as well. The US’s kryptonite?

Eddy Alvarez becomes the eighth speed skater to be chosen to carry the US flag into Opening Ceremonies…but the first to need a jacket with built in cooling technology.

Eddy, who went on to play a little baseball after a relay silver medal at the 2014 Winter Games, joins basketball legend Sue Bird at the head of the delegation as the IOC has asked nations to choose a male and female flag bearer for the first time.

US softball just put the potential winning run on base via IBB, and it pays off with a K of the next batter to close out the inning. Great relay earlier in the inning to nail the runner at home.

President Hashimoto says she regrets that Tokyo 2020 organizers took too long to dismiss the composer Keigo Oyamada after it was revealed he had confessed to bullying and abuses of disabled classmates

It’s so close that it actually shouldn’t matter. Although the “we are going to review the entire program” part is troubling, raising as it does the possibility that there is a Day the Clown Cried homage or something in there.

Is there a program to alert me when Yuliya Levchenko, GeorgiaEllenwood or Alicia Schmidt are up? Asking for a friend

Belgium blowing a seven point lead in 3 v 3 Basketball to Japan was the highlight of the games so far. Epic choke.

Tangentially, the US 3 v 3 squad looks awful on paper. Some 32 year old dude who just graduated Perdue is on the team? Also, Tako Fall should be leading Senegal to gold.

More proof that the B1G sucks
That’s Robbie Hummel, 3x all Big 10 and 2nd round pick of the wolves
USA men didn’t qualify

Can someone fill me in on 3v3 basketball period? Like how did this become a thing, let alone an Olympic sport.

What are the next Olympic sports? Batting practice? Hockey shoot outs? Beer pong? Cross fit?

Pretty sure a team of Lebron, Steph and any American who posts in MBPC would win the gold.

They don’t call fouls, one to reduce stoppages and two because foul over the limit carries 2 fouls shots while a normal basket is worth only 1 point. It’s stupid

There are two types of volleyball too.
3x3 is a fun, very different game, especially with a 12 second shot clock.
But volleyball is a completely different sport. Like ice hockey vs field hockey or water polo vs polo. 3 v 3 half court is what 50 year old men at the YMCA play. It'd be like adding an additional Water Polo that's Marco Polo.

I was ready to be a hater too, but I think there's potential there. Maybe not this go around but in the future. Belgium shitting themselves and playing the worst OT I've ever seen across all sports was pretty fun either way. Home crowd have been going crazy were there a crowd.

I mean, okay, but that really isn't true. Volleyball isn't a completely different sport, it's the same exact sport on a different surface with fewer people. Fundamentally, it's still 3 hits on a side and get it over the net. Sets, digs, and spikes.
3 v 3 is a very different sport than full court, especially with the two point shot and the 12 second shot clock. Fundamentally the same, but very different.
I really have no desire to convince anyone, feel free to compare it to Marco Polo. I guess as someone who played in a shitload of 3 v 3 hoop tournaments in my younger years, I'm going to enjoy the hell out of it.

I’m not sure who I’m agreeing or disagreeing with, but how is sets, digs, spikes different from dribble, pass, shoot?

For indoor volleyball the guy in the different color shirt isn’t allowed to spike? Doesn’t seem to have any other limitation. He doesn’t have to take the second set.

The funniest part about this conversation is why do people care? Like, you don't like 3v3 hoops. Ok, um, don't watch it, the Summer Olympics has a million things going on every day, watch something else. There are 7 channels and a Cock app and NBCSports Gold, which basically has everything. Nobody is required to watch a sport you think is stupid.

I watched a bunch of 3v3 today. It was hilarious and enjoyable. There were definitely a lot of bricks but it was also entertaining. And these guys and gals have the chance to compete in the Olympics, which might be a lifelong dream and something they will remember forever. Let them hoop. America needs more housing anyway, the more bricks the better.
