2020 Rams: Rams legend Eric Dickerson thinks the logo looks like a Pe*is

The Ram horn on the helmet is a classic look, and the blue and yellow uniforms they wore in the Super Bowl were perfect. Everything about the LA football rebrand sucks.

At first glimpse I also thought it looked more Charger than Ram. I also thought it looked very much like a bad 1980's expansion league logo, then I found this logo where the font almost looks like it could have been a starting point.

That hat is the “design” of the logo, but to coloring isn’t accurate. This is from the draft cap, which is a neon stylized version for all of the teams since the draft is in Vegas.

The leaked actual logo seems much more in line with the classic blue, yellow, and white from their throwbacks. Still not a great logo, but doesn’t look nearly as abhorrent.

My guess is that the marketing dept is counting on some combination of:

1) all Ram fans will buy the new hat no matter the logo because its their team;
2) many LA people who are not Ram (or football) fans will buy the hat because its says "LA."

Like a lot of other Rams fans, Hall of Fame running back Eric Dickerson was sitting in front of his home computer on Monday afternoon when the Rams unveiled their new logos online. His reaction mirrored that of many of those fans when they got their first look at it.

“The one that says L.A. — that looks like a Chargers logo,” Dickerson said. “If you told me that was a Chargers logo, I’d say OK, that ain’t bad. … The [Rams] fans hate it. They just don’t like it. The fans are the ones who are going to wear it. The people in the office, they wear it, but they don’t buy it.”

The reaction is particularly notable because Dickerson is a Rams employee, having been hired as the team’s vice president of business development in 2017. In addition to speaking to The Times, Dickerson took to Twitter on Wednesday to express his disappointment and elicit feedback from fans on alternate logos. He said he would talk to the Rams about the issue. Dickerson not only didn’t like the new logo, but he also thought the team’s ram head logo looked like something else.

“Someone said it looks like a penis; it did,” Dickerson said. “That says it all right there. That should be enough for the Rams to say we messed up. We’re going to keep what we got.”

I'd been desperately hoping the "leaked" images were just a hoax, or an early R&D sample. Not sure how phallic it is, but I gotta say, the new logos look like those WNBA teams who used the established NBA franchise in town as inspiration. So we're now apparently the new WNFL franchise, tying in to the long history of LA Chargers fan support...
