Wolf is fun every once in awhile. Results in some great on-course trash talking when playing with the wife, son and daughter.
But it's the most annoying game there is if you have that one member of your group that dilly dallies around and isn't ready to hit when it's their turn, forgets the rules, forgets the order, etc. I never play it anymore because you need the perfect group and no one climbing up your ass behind you.

@cshea It's a set order for the whole round. So you have a player who tees off first on 1, 5, 9, etc. The first player is the wolf. They have to choose their partner from the next three players but have to decide if they want a player before the next player hits. So if they like player two's shot, they have to pick that player before player three tees off, etc. They can choose to go "lone wolf" and pick no partner. The rules on how you win as lone wolf vary wildly depending on your group, but in general, you need to beat or tie all of the remaining players, but you double the bet. There's a bunch of other crap that different groups play, but that's the gist.

It's better played, and more fun, as a high handicap group. With low single digits, there are less "lone wolf" opportunities and the game gets formulaic and boring.

It's a blast when the group either is playing terrible or are not great golfers that can't hit many fairways though.

I can see that; half the fun is rolling the dice on who is going to blow up or who will pull a good hole out. If everyone is a 5, I can see it being boring. Throw a bunch of 15s out there for a buck a point and have fun.

@jercra, as regards to keeping order, we usually do blocks; 1-4, 5-8, etc, with who ever is in last place getting the last two holes as wolf to try to make up points. We pretty much abandoned that game and mostly play bridge if we have the time without someone pressing us from behind.

These posts probably belong in the golf thread, but I'll pile on here:

A buddy and I created a points game that started out as a fun game between us instead of playing a Nassau. The joke was that we could add/change rules if we both agree, so mid round we'd get into a situation, make up a crazy rule and shout 'new rule'. We've gotten other folks onboard and the game has expanded and replaced our Saturday game. New rules have to go through our two person committee, it's fun as hell.

We've simplified the rules, but we have things like you can earn a point for closest to the pin, but if you three putt you lose that point and lose 2 points for the three putt. We also have points for fairways hit, but if everyone in the group is in the fairway and you're the shortest hitter, you don't get the fairway point.

It's been a blast.

Looks like they took out the fairway bunker on #12 that the players all hated.

Bummer not being able to head down to Norton.

This is the most bummed out I’ve been over anything since the pandemic started. I realize that means I’ve been very lucky but, man, I was looking forward to this.

I typically go every year, all four days. Obviously we missed out last year with it being in New York. My son, who is 3, is obsessed with tiger woods. He dressed as tiger for Halloween. Watches him every tournament. When we hit balls together he insists I call him Dean Tiger Woods.

I was going to surprise him and go all four days with him. Ugh.

I know that reads in one sense like a very First World Problem, but I feel your pain - that really sucks.

Both of my girls watched the end of the Masters with me when Tiger won last year (they were 5 and 3 at the time) and they have been obsessed with him ever since. Whenever I'm watching golf they ask me if he's playing and will yell 'Go Tiger' when he's onscreen.

It's pretty cool.

Scottie Scheffler shoots 59, DJ is -9 through 8, and Zac Blair cards a smooth 80.

what a terrible finish for DJ no birdies in final 7 holes....kidding of course, but probably should've had one on 18

Reminds me of another of my favorite Tiger stats. When he missed his 2nd cut as a pro...he had 43 wins. He had Phil’s full fucking career before missing 2 cuts.

Worlds End
I would say that isn't a great idea. If you could get anywhere near the actual course, which I'm guessing would be pretty difficult, it wouldn't be long before someone asked what you were doing there.

That stinks my dad used to take me and my sister to Pleasant Valley every year Friday and Saturday and if he could scrape up the money Sunday too. So many great memories trailing Fuzzy Zoeller and the likes.

I had to turn it off, it was brutal. The Reed/Schauffele pairing was playing terrible golf too.

LPGA at Royal Troon on Golf Channel.

How are they playing across the pond, but the Open couldn't be played

I believe the R&A had pandemic insurance which covered the Open - they wouldn't suffer financially in any way from it not being played. (My assumption is that the PGA Tour and the other majors will be better off financially by keeping their TV money, paying full prize money and suffering losses from not having fans in attendance, etc., than they would from being in breach of the TV contract and not having the events taking place.)
