A friend of mine has played with Rory several times. This guy has been the champ 8 different times at my club over a 20 year period and has ranged from a 2 handicap to a +1 during the time I've known him.

He told me that Rory was so intimidating to play with that he "almost felt ashamed" to be in the same foursome. So, yeah.
Now these are the stories I need to hear.

Yes. I love everything about Rory.
My caddie at TPC Sawgrass looped for him and said he's also the nicest guy in the world and none of it is an act. He stopped an signed stuff for anyone one the course who asked while he was practicing for The Players (not an official practice round, obviously). After Tiger, he's the guy I'd choose to play a round with if given the choice of playing with any tour pro.

I’m on Team Rory too. He is awesome. Speaks his mind, thoughtful, and genuine. Seems like a good guy all around.

He had an early tee time at TPC Boston one year when I was there and I was able to follow him for a few holes while his gallery was still pretty sparse. He was so impressive. Watching him hit a few drivers was incredible. All pros make the game look easy, but he took it to another level.

Fans to be allowed at the Memorial ....LFG
So...The Memorial will be from July 16-19, with fans and its usual 120-person limited field. I've just noticed that the John Deere, which was supposed to take place the week before (July 9-12), has been cancelled and will be replaced by a *second* event at Muirfield Village, with a full 156-person field (and no fans):
https://www.espn.com/golf/story/_/id/29256450/pga-tour-event-columbus-replace-john-deereSo we're getting two PGA Tour events at the same course in back-to-back weeks. How the heck is that going to work? By the end of the second week, there are going to be *so* many divots in the fairways, and the driving range is going to be absolutely chewed up. What happens if it rains the first week and they have to have a Monday finish which eats into the prep time of players only in the field the second week? (Or is it just a given that everyone in the Memorial field will play the week before as well?) What about the work that presumably needs to be done to set up the course for spectators during the second week, and would usually be finished the week before? It's going to be a fascinating experiment, that's for sure.

(FWIW, I do remember the US Open and then US Women's Open being held at Pinehurst in back-to-back weeks in 2014; that seems like the obvious comparison, but the men are going to be playing from the same spots on the course, and the turf conditions are rather different.)

I mean, you don't think a golf course can repair a driving range?

Sure, eventually...but you don't think that the turf will be in tatters after two weeks of pounding by the best golfers in the world?
This is a low level issue. They could move the range back or forward. They could bring in sod.

So no, I don't think the golfers will have to warm up on a range that is in tatters. This is the PGA tour, not a muni course in a bankrupt county.

Of course they're not going to have to warm up on dirt instead of grass. I'm just saying that it's one of several things that's rather unusual about what is currently scheduled to happen. (I do think they're going to wind up with many more balls than usual ending in divots during the second tournament, which is obviously a much more pertinent factor here.)

Eh, they’ll vary the yardages as best they can. They won’t play the identical course 2 weeks in a row.

Our man Riggs with a scoop that Privacy is gassed up and setting sail for the Hilton Head area, where the tour is next week. I guess one method of isolation and social distancing is staying on your massive yacht. Tiger has played Harbour Town once before, in 1999.

Feels like the eve of a major. Featured groups:

7:45- DJ/Rose/Bryson
7:55- Na/Mickelson/Woodland

12:55- BFF’s group, JT/Rickie/Spieth
1:06- Top Dog’s- Rory/Brooks/Rahm

Believe Golf Channel will air the featured groups starting at 12 and leading into their coverage.

In Ryder Cup news, Stricker will have 6 captains picks this year instead of the traditional 4 as a result of the weird year and compressed schedule.

I'd be shocked if there was a Ryder Cup this year.

My wife, 5 minutes ago: “You’re watching golf already?”

Let’s see how many rounds before she kills me.

The new PGA TourCast replacement for shot tracker/play by play is pretty incredible.

Now if I could just figure out how to get to it quickly.

I will say, it sounds weird when the announcers reference stats and tag it with “... this season.”
Seems like forever ago and yet it’s still the “same” season.

Hot mic already in effect.
I love that it was “a moment ago” so decidedly not live and they let it get through

For those who can’t see the video. John Rahm chips in and someone chimes in “pretty fuckin good”

I noticed that too. It's wayyyyy better without fans.
The framing created by fans fundamentally alters our perception of the course itself.

Not sure I like the broadcasts as much (although I suspect I'll adjust quickly) but televised golf without fans is absolutely a much better way to appreciate the venues.

NBC Sports app is running significantly better today. I had all sorts of problems with the picture, and getting kicked off, with either Roku or Fire TV.

Today the picture is perfect and I'm not getting kicked. No joke, I was kicked off 7 times yesterday.

Spieth’s got a share of the lead. His first hole yesterday, the easiest on the course, was a total calamity. Lights out since then. He’s done this before where he’s strung together good stretches in a tournament before hitting speed bumps, but he looks a lot better.

Believe you have to pay. They are running free previews through twitter every now and then though. Not sure if any are still going on.
