11 looks impossible. Reed tripled it, Im doubled it, Sung Kang just hit 2 in the water and will lose his lead. Can’t remember seeing a round with so many doubles and others.

Big Leish looks to be playing the best in the conditions.

There were 8 80s out there today. Doubt you've seen that many times for a post cut Saturday. And we are talking championship talent like

Patrick Reed
Hideki Matsuyama (managed an 80 despite 4 birdies on the round)
Brooks Koepka

There was only 1 round under par today. Nobody in the 60s (par 72). 2020 PGA Tour is AWESOME.
That is shocking. It was most certainly a bloodbath today. Look at the leaderboard, it's mostly mid to high 70s and 80s. I can't remember ever seeing anything like that. Maybe the 3rd round of the 2018 US Open, when Mickelson hit his ball while it was rolling on the green.

Still difficult today. Koepka and Wolff are -2 through 12 and Ryan Moore is -1 through 14 but everyone else is over par.

Still difficult, but doesn't look as difficult as yesterday. 3 people have already finished under par and there are 6 others currently under par including Fitzpatrick who is -4 thru 10.

Fitzpatrick was cruising along at 5 under after 16 but just double bogeyed 17. 18 has been killing people too.

Seems like it's playing harder later in the day. Only 6 guys under par for the tournament atm.

edit: now 5... and 3 of them are only 1 under. The other 2 are -6 and -4. Crazy. Rory's not having a good day.

Hatton is like Rahm. Wears his emotions on his sleeve, never have to wonder if he likes a shot or not, never far from a meltdown. I find it entertaining.

So much more fun to watch than some of these robots. Big Rahm fan too. Always seconds away from a complete emotional meltdown. *chef kiss*

Im is fearless. He has taken some crazy aggressive lines in tough conditions the past 2 weeks. He’s going to make a shit load of money on tour.

Hatton was leaking oil earlier, but it looks like he’s going to do it.*

Scrambling to save par on 16 after that horrible lay up was everything.

*if he three-putts, I will do a virtual facepalm.

Anyone know what happened to Matt Every on the 5th hole? He got an 11, so I'm assuming it was a Tin Cup situation into the drink but he kinda broke Shot Tracker on PGATour.com
Every was on NLU and gave a good answer when he was asked about the 11. It was basically a tin cup. Water left, Pin left, and right to left wind. So he needed to hit a cut into that hole location. When he’s missing his irons it’s left, which is what happened on that hole. He said he could’ve just bailed out to the right but he wouldn’t have gotten anything out of doing that. He was already going to miss the cut so he didn’t really care about his score and decided he was going to hit as many as it took to hit the shot he wanted to hit.

2 questions:

1. How do people think the COVID-19 will affect the tour events? Will they still play without fans?

2. The tournament is going on as scheduled this week, I believe. So that every shot live thing is a go. How do I watch this? I have NBC Sports Gold for soccer, but I don't believe I purchased the PGA tour part of it. Do I need that as well? Or just because I already pay for Gold do I get it?

They are full steam ahead with events at this point. There have been some rumors about the Match Play being canceled/PPD since Austin canceled the SXSW festival that runs at the same time of the tournament. There has also been chatter about the PGA of America and PGA Tour taking about moving the PGA Championship from TPC Harding Park in San Francisco to TPC Sawgrass. Not really sure what a change of venue would really accomplish. I’m surprised they are allowing fans on the course right now in Sawgrass. I guess it is open air, maybe that helps, but we’re still talking about 50,000 people in close contact.

Looks like the “all shots live” thing is under PGA Tour Live. Every group is listed to watch. If I click on a group in the PGA Tour app it jumps me over to NBC Sports app.

There is already one confirmed case in St. John's County and given the minimal amount of testing data I'd assume there are more.

With all of the VIP structures around the course (and pretty much every PGA Tour event now) there will be plenty of sardine can interaction for fans this weekend at The Players.

Thanks to the tournament moving from May to March (mid-semester for me) I ended my volunteering and am pretty happy not to be spending this week in The Benefactor (the 2-story venue behind 17 tee) wall-to-wall with a constant recycling of thousands of fans from literally around the world.

As an added bonus, as mentioned in the article, most of the volunteers at golf events, particularly this one, are 65-plus and retired.

I don't think fans will be out there on Sunday, tomorrow and Saturday are the big attendance days. I think it'll take an order from Tallahassee to shut it down sooner, if at all.

I was out there working with some of our multi-media students on Tuesday and the course looks great, I do wish there was a little more bite to the rough because there isn't going to be any wind and the wind is supposed to be the challenge on this course in March. Look for the scoring to be low, unlike the last two weeks.

Edit: In going through my email, The Tour sent out a media update just after midnight saying they'd be open for business today, but they have scheduled an update for Noon. It'll be interesting to see what the message will be.

How interesting would it be if they played without fans in attendance? I'd imagine scores would be higher? Less people to trample rough in problem areas.

You'd probably hear the conversations as well.

Well that blows for people who bought tickets, flew down, and are already there.
It does, but I assume a lot of out of town fans may have already bailed on it at this point. And well it is unfortunate for them, it is the right thing to do

According to one of my students that works in marketing at JIA... there was still significant inbound Players related passenger traffic at the airport this week.

Apparently, the baggage belts also take a beating thanks to all of the golf bags.

Other than publicly announcing additional hand sanitizing stations, the tournament/tour was all-in until last night. I wonder how much the, so far, single case in St. John's County moved the PR needle.

I think Rudy Gobert and Adam Silver moved the PR needle more than anything. They may have moved the needle for the entire country.

I think this is one sport that will be better without fans. Also no fans to stop balls heading for really bad places.
