Looks like he ended up in pretty good shape, but he can’t resist the hero shot. That reminded me of when he lost last years Players Championship. It is entertaining as a viewer but also bites him in the ass.

Ryan Palmer -11 through 17 today. Have a day, I don't make that many birdies in a year.
It should be noted that you jinxed him on 18. :)

Palmer is off to a hot start for the year, but his past record indicates that he really doesn’t like (or do well on) the South course.

Palmer was in the playoff here the year Day won after JB iced the shit out of Alex Noren on the 18th hole in regulation.

Looking forward to this weekend. This is always one of the best regular season events. Great leaderboard, course with some bite to it.

Sat down to watch Tiger tee off on PGA Tour live and the Marine Layer is really putting a damper on my morning.

Torrey Pines is a fantastic venue too. Love both courses here.

Tiger is playing with Chris Baker today. Baker’s a 33-year old that has grinded it out on the KFT and other minor tours. Finally broke through and obtained a PGA Tour card in the KFT playoffs last season, and here he is playing with Tiger Woods on the PGA Tour. Pretty cool.

Tiger is also on the move, -2 through 3.

First look at Spieth today and he’s over by the cart path and under the trees. Good recovery shot but looks like more of the same for him. In danger of dropping out of the OWGR top 50.

Reed is T3 and we’ve yet to see him hit a shot or putt. Amazing.

This is a tremendous leaderboard. Sign me up for a Rory/Rahm final pairing with Tiger lurking 2-3 back.

Let’s see how long Rahm keeps the temper in check. Bogey 1, lipped out a 5 footer for birdie at 2, missed the green to left on 3.

Wow, Tiger really didn’t know about Kobe. “Excuse me?” he says to LaCava after LaCava appeared to give him the heads up.

The CBS broadcast has been a disaster this weekend. Misidentifying players, A/V going in and out, Faldo literally not being able to speak English, etc. It’s embarrassing.

I thought Faldo was fine but the rest of that broadcast is so damn bland. I wasn’t his biggest fan but they miss McCord. Baker-Finch, Nobilo and Immelman are fine as analysts but they bring no personality or flare to the broadcast.

CBS is so far behind NBC (when they actually show golf) and Fox. I’m not a fan of Dottie Pepper and she was like the only on course reporter they had. NBC has Maltbie and Bones, the 2 best. Did DL3 even say a word today?

I listened to the NLU podcast yesterday, the bulk of which was discussing a Premier Golf League type concept that has been in the news o. Apparently there is a group out there (I didn’t catch if anyone put a name or or who the leader was) that has significant funding that is looking to pry the best players off the PGA Tour and onto this Premier Golf League.

The concept is a 12, 4-player teams. There will be team owners. Not sure exactly how it would work but I’d imagine there would be some kind of roster management component, which could be interesting. As for tournaments, they are looking at 18 events. The events would be 54 holes of stroke play with no cut. There would be some match play in the final. For the regular events, they would do shotgun starts for the first 2 rounds to shorten the broadcast window. The final round would be split tees.

It is an interesting concept to think about, and a million questions to be asked. This group seems to be quite serious. The NLU guys seemed to like some of the ideas on the surface but that there are a lot of aspects that need to be fleshed out. They were kinda in agreement that the whole thing probably hinges on Tiger since he is the needle, and that it is very unlikely that Tiger would turn his back on the Tour. This PGL is looking to launch in January 2022. This is also when a new PGA Tour broadcast deal would start. It was reported that the deal was done months ago but the Tour hasn’t announced it so that led to some curiosity and eyebrow raising.

I actually don't think they need to pry the best players, they can use regionality and fandom to promote the "teams". I've floated this idea around in my head for years and think it would work, but you need to sell it as The Boston Drivers vs. The New York Knickers and have teams have home courses and whatnot.

How profitable is the Tour? When Rory was asked about the PGL the other day he said it "could be a catalyst for some changes on the PGA and European Tours".

I got the sense he was basically saying the players should get a bigger piece of the pie.
