Tough way to start for Varner..... triple out of the gate, gets them all back but then adds another bogey to finish the opening 9 at -6 now two shots back

Whose future would you rather have--Collin Morikawa or Sungjae Im? I can't decide, but I think they are both going to be stars for a long time.
I find it crazy that all three of the college studs from last year have had material impacts on the Tour. Given their wins have been of different varieties but still impressive nonetheless.

Maybe some recency and fantasy team bias, but I’d take Im.

Im
Morikawa
Hovland
Wolff

Wolff lags a bit behind the others. First to win but he’s been less consistent than the others.

NBC Sports app is running significantly better today. I had all sorts of problems with the picture, and getting kicked off, with either Roku or Fire TV.

Today the picture is perfect and I'm not getting kicked. No joke, I was kicked off 7 times yesterday.
Opposite for me. No problems yesterday, a few freezes today.... watching through Xfinity on my TV

Follows it up with a bogey on 4, then somehow birdies 5 which is impossibly hard.

I'm just waiting for the Bryson show this afternoon. He is the most entertaining man in golf.

He was just up against the base of a tree too. Had 6/7 feet to save par.

The 4-putt came out of nowhere, but he’s missed 2 of his last 3 tee shots right which has been his problem. One of them was on a 250 yard par 3 so that was a tough par anyway.

And then had a virtually flawless back 9 to finish -11 and to stay in the lead. Meanwhile Rory has a chance at a 61 round. This has been a really entertaining start to the tournament, hope it keeps up over the weekend.

340 yards off 1, 365 on 2.

I find him annoying, but interesting if that makes sense.

Yeah I don't like him either, but he's fascinating and definitely NOT boring. And he smushed that drive on 2.

I wish the announcers would stop saying that Bryson put on 20lbs of muscle during quarantine. It's literally impossible. You can maybe maybe put on half a pound of lean muscle per week naturally. He put on 5-7lbs of muscle and 13-15lbs of fat and bloat.

I did something similar in my early 20s. I was working out like crazy, optimizing my diet and taking crazy (and questionable) supplements. I put on 25lbs in about 6 months. I don't know how he can stand it, I was so uncomfortable.

Does Spieth implode tomorrow or Sunday? Watching him drop a 75 is the return to normalcy I need.
Last year, the Saturdays were epically bad for Spieth. So if he's going to collapse, it'll probably be today. It's less likely to happen this weekend than it normally would, because he does play unbelievably well at Colonial. But it's Spieth, on a weekend, close to the lead. That was a tragically bad combo for him last year.

Do you think a lack of a crowd may help his cause? Feeling of less pressure maybe, could work to his advantage

Spieth started leaking some oil at the end of the round yesterday. The 4-putt came out of nowhere but from there on he missed some hybrids and drivers right which has been his miss.

The commercials are as bad as ever. Just had 2 shots in between commercials, Spieth’s 2nd on 1 and DeChambeau’s tee shot on 2.

Chipped in for birdie on 2, but by my count Spieth’s only hit 2 of 5 full shots well and also missed with a half wedge.

Nantz might win me over by the end of the weekend. Fun listening to him openly root for Varner.
Nantz will never win me over. He's bruuuuutal.

But he has had a couple of good moments today. Which is two more good moments than he's had in the previously 50 years combined. So I guess it's a hall of fame day for him.

He still sucks.

I know I'm in the minority on this board, but I think Nantz is a good golf announcer.
We agree which I know is weird for us. CBS's constant commercial interruptions and tendency at times to only focus on 3 golfers even when those 3 are just standing around instead of showing us others playing, on the other hand...

Spieth CHUNKS a chip and they don't even show it on TV. Just casually mention it before showing his next putt.

It's good to be complaining about the coverage again. Feels like I'm back to normal.
