Sale has an opt-out after 2022? and this sheet thinks it's likely he opts out? File that one under "nobody knows right now"

Curious...if he opts out how do they handle the deferred payments?
Each year is a separate salary, here is the full thing from Cot's:

"5 years/$145M (2020-24), plus 2025 option
  • signed extension with Boston 3/23/19
  • 20:$30M, 21:$30M, 22:$30M, 23:$27.5M, 24:$27.5M, 25:$20M club option
  • $50M is deferred, reducing average annual value to $25.6M (will defer $10M annually in 2020-24, to be paid on 6/30 in 15th year after the salary is earned, 2035-39. If club exercises 2025 option, $5M is deferred until 6/30/2040
  • 2025 option guaranteed if Sale finishes in top 10 in 2024 Cy Young vote and is not on the injured list at end of 2024 season
  • 2021-24 salaries increase up to $2M annually based on finish in previous season’s Cy Young vote: $2M for winning the award, $1.5M for second or third in vote, $1M for fourth or fifth, $500,000 for sixth-10th
  • 2025 option increases based on 2023-24 Cy Young vote: $2.5M for winning in 2023 or 2024, $1.5M for second or third in vote, $1M for fourth or fifth, $500,000 for sixth-10th
  • award bonuses: $100,000 each for Cy Young or MVP ($75,000 for second place in either vote, $50,000 for third). $100,000 for WS MVP. $50,000 each for All Star, LCS MVP
  • Sale may opt out of contract after 2022 season
  • assignment bonus: $1M with trade, to be paid by new club
  • no-trade protection: may block deals to 3 clubs in 2020 and 2021, with ability to block all trades upon reaching 10 years of Major League service during first half of 2021 season"
