On the topic of shortening the season, former Eagles’ CEO Joe Banner said this in a Philly Inquirer story today, before the Cam news broke:
Banner: My view all along was that I was confident they’d start the season. I’ve spoken to enough people there to know that they’re very determined not to get thrown off by a small number of cases and shut things down. They’re going to do their best to keep it alive.
But just listening to the doctors talk about how this thing is likely to get worse as the fall goes on, and the players and their families being in the community and not in a bubble, it’s hard to picture them getting through it without having some challenges.
Hopefully, they’re manageable challenges and they can keep going. Because I know they’re very determined. If it’s at all possible or even a little bit reasonable, their intent is to keep going forward if they possibly can.

Actually, if you’re a night owl - one of the best nights of my life was at the (mutual musicians) Foundation. It’s this old jazz club with pictures on the wall of every great who’s ever played there - which is pretty much every jazz great ever. I think we were there at 1 or 2 am, and local musicians just get on stage and jam. It was the most incredible thing I ever saw as I sat there eating a $10 plate of swai, corn and seasoned rice.

I took umbrage with the idea that this is a great opportunity for the NFL to play games 4 days a week, or move the season so they can own President's Day or something. This is more likely to be a total disaster for the NFL then a boon. And I selfishly find myself hoping they work it out because Sunday afternoons in the Fall have been very special over the past 20 years, and I feel guilty about that.
It's not likely to be a total disaster or a boon. It's most likely going to be a temporary obstacle to deal with in a season that they knew would have some obstacles of this nature.
Gates is a good shout, but the best part about it is the sauce which you can (and should) buy bottles of at the grocery store and smuggle home in your suitcase.we're at empirical brewery right now and trying to make the most of it.

Arthur Bryant's is still there. I went there (and to the Negro League Baseball Museum and the Jazz Museum) on the way back from Chicago in August.
But don't sleep on Oklahoma Joe's either. (I guess their name is now just Joe's.) That's the third of the dueling three KC places, and I know several people who swear by them.
I dont understand how, given the NFL has had months longer than the other sports to figure this out, the best they currently have is "Because of the diagnosis of a condition with a ~5 days incubation period, we will move the game 48 hours later". Pure fucking insanity.
So 42% of the incubation period? 14 days brother. Tests aren't really reliable even for asymptomatic for 7-10 days. I was literally just in the hospital tuesday, tested negative and they told me i had to do it again in ten days if I wanted to be truly safe around people. 6 days means diddly squat.
not entirely true. i saw someone on twitter that would move some bye weeks around a bit and get this game to week 17. which you would imagine would be popular

I get that, and I hope you’re doing well, but the NFL isn’t stopping the Pats for 2 weeks because of Cam. That’s what I’m referring to.
No you're referring to game that happened six days ago its some its some kind of medical fact/precedent. It's not. This isn't Pats related. There was no fucking way this wouldn't, won't, will hapen to every team.
Someone upthread commented on training camp being a "bubble". Bottom line is unless you're like NBA/NHL and it " players only, only here, there is no bubble. This was doomed before the start

What does doomed mean? Wasn't baseball doomed from the start? You're not thinking clearly. And you're being reactionary. I don't understand why.
The goal for the NFL was never 0 positive tests. The goal is to try to play the season while navigating around positive tests and making changes on the fly when necessary. This was the goal of MLB, too. It looked like baseball was doomed and on this very website, there were multiples calls just to abandon the season. That was just as dumb and reactionary.
Having a QB contract the virus is essentially a worst case scenario for a team. I imagine that there’s a decent chance Cam has to sit this week and next week, depending on testing, etc.

I’m wondering if home bubbles(meaning all team personnel moving into a hotel in their home cities) starts to get serious consideration. Would obviously require negotiation between the owners and the NFLPA. But the growing likelihood of missed game checks might be a motivating factor. I don’t think the league shuts down entirely either, but I also think, due to the close contact nature of the sport, and the challenges of making up games, they’re not really a close comparison to baseball, in terms of the obstacles they will face carrying on as more and more outbreaks occur.
