@SMU_Sox , talk me into Winfield because I really liked the tape. But I can't get past the size. 5'9, 203#. I can't remember BB ever taking an undersized safety before. I know Jon Jones has played some in very specific, match-up situations but that was more mad scientist stuff versus Jones being an every-down safety. By the same token, I love Chinn but I can't recall BB drafting a jumbo-sized safety either (granted, Rodney Harrison was big, but he'd already established himself as a high-level NFL player). I think I'm more inclined to go with Chinn between the two (although either one would surprise me), but I do have a soft spot for Winfield.

McKinney, Blackmon, Brandon Jones, Wallace, Mayden, and Reed strike me as the safeties who most physically look like the kind of players BB drafts. Of that group, I've done the most work on McKinney and Reed. Mayden and Wallace both intrigue me and I wish I'd done more on them.

@EL Jeffe I see Winfield as a guy who can cover slots, TEs, RBs as well as play FS. He and Xavier McKinney are the smartest guys left on the board. He is an inch and a half shorter than DMC and has over 30 inch arms but yes, he will get knocked down boards for his injury history earlier in his college career and for being short with barely long enough arms. He has the best ball hawking skills in the class. He immediately, or close to it, would replace Harmon's role on the team while being able to backup DMC's duties. He is blazing fast at a 4.46. I bet on fast smart guys who are undersized vs big fast guys who don't know what they are doing out there.

Winfield Jr. is a leader on and off the field and plays STs. Bill's #1 trait for a safety is intelligence and WInfield Jr. wins there.

I've seen Chinn take too many bad angles downhill, not know what he is doing in coverages, lose faster and quicker guys in coverage and basically beat up on poor competition. I know I have a different view of the safeties than most but I am not in on 3 guys who draft media likes: Chinn, Delpit, and Dugger.

Winfield Jr. has the highest floor of all the FS prospects. His ceiling is not elite but I like him too much in coverage.

If both McKinney and Winfield are on the board at 37 (and the Pats don't trade down), who would you rather take?

Winfield Jr. Kills me to say it too. He is more athletic and can play ST. Think he is much better in coverage.

Yeah, if I had to bet on which player will have the better career, I'd go with Winfield. But if I had to bet on which player NE is more likely to take, I'd go McKinney.

Thanks guys. There are so many players that I am hopeful they draft tonight. But only so many picks. Hoping they can find a way to get another 2nd rounder.

Rumor was that they were trying to trade back into the first round for X-man last night. I like Xavier a lot but his athletic profile worries me.

Couldn't agree more. He was a very good college player, and I *think* he'll be a good NFL player. He's a little light for the Chung role and he certainly doesn't run like McCourty. But he's really smart and he's really tough, and he's probably athletic enough. He did jump okay, at least. I always look at 10 yard split, and the vertical/broad jumps. 36" vertical was good, 10'2 broad was fine.

I also can't help wonder if K'von Wallace later on isn't the better move. Similar NFL role and body type, but Wallace tested really well.

I think if anything Wallace has a career as a slot corner at worst. He was really inconsistent as a box guy but was fantastic in coverage. He would be a ST stud too given his test scores. I like the idea. These last 2.5 hours are going to feel like forever.

If I missed someone or eliminated them I either didn't watch them or shit happens when you trim 250+ guys to a smaller board.

That is 196 guys but if we assume that they only have draft grades on guys in the first 5 rounds or guys who have a 6+ on my board it goes from 196 to 148. That's double their size but it's hard to eliminate guys with limited information.
So big board by your rankings would be:
Mims 8.25
Baun 8.00
Harrison 8.00
Dobbins 8.00
Lots of guys at 7.99:
WR- Pittman, Cephuz, Edwards
OL- Cushenberry, Lewis
CB- Johnson
S- McKinney, Winfield
DL- Epenesa, Madubuike, Davidson

Ignore Cephus @ElcaballitoMVP and if I am Bill I might take Pittman over Mims. Cephus is a guy I am going to die on a hill on. Was pleasantly surprised to see only one other draft analyst like him, Matt Waldman.

I won a bet with a friend over whether Moss of Sullivan would be drafted first
I also won my Moss bet. I said he wouldn’t be drafted until 6th or 7th round. We would draw in round 5. He would win earlier than round 5. Moss was all hype from his name. Ok ok fine he was a good blocker and a check down TE. But not athletic at all and has some injury concerns.

Edit and also he’s short and has tiny arms. He should be a fullback imo.

I really miss the preseason games. I miss the position battles, getting to know the new guys, Zolak's rambling stories in the 3rd qtr. I feel much less connected to the team this year.
