The 2020 NHL Draft is set to kick-off tonight at 7 pm EST (NBCSN), with rounds 2-7 starting tomorrow at 11:30 am (NHL Network).

Round 1 Draft Order:

12. Florida Panthers
13. Carolina Hurricanes (From TOR)
14. Edmonton Oilers
15. Toronto Maple Leafs (From PIT)
16. Montreal Canadiens
17. Chicago Blackhawks

28. Ottawa Senators (From NYI)
29. Vegas Golden Knights
30. Dallas Stars
31. San Jose Sharks (From TB)

Note: Round 2 will have 30 selections due to Arizona forfeiting their pick (testing violations).

Alex Lafreniere will go number one, and the next two should be a combination of Quinton Byfield/Tim Stutzle. Below are a few links to mocks and rankings:

As a Sabres fan (I know), I am really hoping for Marco Rossi, who seems to be mocked to them frequently. That probably means it won't happen, so I will "settle" for Raymond. Rossi is small, but it is hard to argue with the production, even considering the league (OHL) and his age. Below are the top 8 draft-eligible seasons over the last 10 years:

1. Connor McDavid - 2.55 PPG
2. Marco Rossi - 2.14
3. Mitch Marner - 2.00
4. Dylan Strome - 1.90
5. Matthew Tkachuk - 1.88
6. Taylor Hall - 1.86
7. Quinton Byfield - 1.82
8. Cole Perfetti - 1.82

The Kings passing on Quinton Byfield would be an all time draft miss, if I was a GM I'd take him over anyone in this draft. Lafreniere has a higher floor, he's a safe pick, I get why he's going 1st. He's more likely to be a 1st liner and contribute immediately. But Byfield is more likely to be a hall of fame level talent. If he reaches his potential, he won't have any comparables. And if LA screws this up, Byfield is in the Bruins division.

they're doing a zoom thingy about the draft thus afternoon for STHs, wonder if there will be any actual questions/answers this year

As tradition, every year Season Ticket Holders come together for our annual Boston Bruins Draft Party. This year we're going virtual! Join Cam Neely & Don Sweeney TODAY at 5:00 PM for a STH-only post-draft conversation. They will take your questions and review the Bruins 2020 draft picks.

i'm no longer a STH, but I remember the State of the Bruins things they used to do. I went to a few but I thought they were largely useless. There would be 1 or 2 decent quesetions and then a bevy of "can we add tuna sandwiches to the concession offerings? How 'bout changing the goal horn?"

Ty could be fucking around, but Tuukka to the Avs?

Edit: Here lies a deleted tweet from Ty Anderson. It was a Finland Flag emoji, a snowcapped mountain emoji, and the eyes emoji.

Between here and everywhere.
Here we go:

Mason Lohrei - D - Green Bay Gamblers.

6'4, 195lbs.

"Bit of a surprise" says NHL TV. LOL

Where Lohrei stood out was as a puck-carrier. His puck skills in small are situations stuck out as a distinct positive in a few instances, particularly for someone of his stature. He's got a snappy wrist shot, with good form and an ability to generate a lot of power with very little movement, suggestive of a really strong upper-body. -EliteProspects 2020 NHL Draft Guide

Columbus took a guy outside the top 100 in the first round last night.

The NHL draft and Central Scouting rankings are always weird. If you like a player, take him.

Donnie's a great GM but when he screws up he screws up big. I simply don't understand.
They probably interviewed him and really liked him. I mean at the end of the day Sweeney took an aging roster that missed the playoffs and got them to the finals in 4 years so he obviously knows more about building a team then any of us, but still I just don’t get the drafting sometimes.

None of us have seen the kid play. Who knows?

It's been several years now. They're scouting methods don't match up with CSS or other draft guru's. Despite that, they've done pretty well. I trust them.

Yeah. Plus if he's going to OSU at 19 he's probably at least four years away from making the big club, so he provides zero help for an aging roster short term.

Gah. Just baffling.
