"just 33"? Why do people say stuff like this? 33 is old for an athlete.

EDIT: To add to this, only 15 OL league-wide in 2019 were 33 or older. Of those, three (Yanda, Staley, Ramon Foster) have since retired, several more (Penn, Dotson, Chris Clark, Ryan Kalil, John Jerry, A.Q. Shipley) are still free agents (as was Jason Peters until last week). That's an age where guys are at the end of the line even if they haven't just taken the last two years off.

Why? Because the player's agent told Rap to include that in the press release tweet.

This is highly irrelevant, but I would like to dedicate the following song to the 2020 Buccaneers season:

Shit Boat (No Fans); Alestorm
Also, if anyone wants to photoshop it so that the pirate with the hat and the bag of dicks is Belichick (he has been known to pose as a pirate); the pirate falling down the poop deck is Brady; the alcoholic navigator is Bruce Arians; and Kristoff is Cam Newton, I wouldn’t necessarily be opposed to that.

What's the NFL protocol for head coaches? Does he have to take the year off and they promote an asst.? 2-3 weeks off? Or do they just let him infect the team?

This season is a farce. Just cancel it.
I don't understand. What is a farce? The NFL is going to play and they are going to pray nobody dies. But this is NFL SOP, nothing about this is farcical. It's exactly what you expect, which is for the league to plow forward no matter what.

It's really no different from dozens of other industries in that sense.

Do you think if we knew, with 100% certainty, that an effective vaccine would be avail Jan 1 and could be in most of the US pop by, say, March (both of which are unknowable I concede), the NFL and college football would be more willing to shut this down till Spring?

I'm trying to figure out how much of the resistance to the idea is the fact that there is uncertainty things will even be better vs logistics of trying to play 2 seasons in one calendar year.

Purely hypothetically, would it be physically possible to have two NFL seasons in one calendar year? I'm wondering how long the players need to recover from the wear and tear of playing 16 (or more) games, and the extent to which having a very short offseason would be mitigated at all by having had a very long offseason previously.

Yeah seems to be that if they planned for a Jan 1 kickoff, they'd probably have to delay the 2021 season by at least a couple months, maybe start up around November 1, and then back to normal by 2022

How much you want to bet Harbaugh texts in claiming violations by the Patriots?

But in all seriousness... are we more worried about teams not following protocols or the players? I have to think it’s more likely the young, rich, 20-somethings at relatively lower risk break rules than the teams that have every incentive to try to keep an outbreak out of their facility if only for competitive reasons (we know the NFL couldn’t care less about the long term health of its players).

Yeah i really don't have much issue with this. I see how the game could be worked, you call the tip before a big name on the opposing teams star QB, etc; but if you're doing this with out a bubble, you're going to have to risk shenanigans one way or the other.

The point is to keep the players' name from the team. There's no reason to think the union would have any interest in helping a team retaliate against one of their members. I don't think a player's anonymity to the NFLPA would matter.

Free google voice number, prepaid burner phone, or borrow a phone from your entourage (among many other simple solutions). I’m not saying it’s ideal but there are many avenues available to a millionaire pro athlete if they’re really that concerned about being exposed.

56 players have tested positive for coronavirus since the start of camps last week according to the NFLPA.

The NFLPA said the results were through Wednesday. The figure represents about 2 percent of the approximately 2,600 players on training camp rosters for the 32 NFL teams.

I wonder how many cases among coaches, trainers and support staff. Haven’t been able to find that data.

ZMart answered this already, as I would have. Which isn't to say it couldn't still happen, but the league also has an anonymous hotline for guys out drunk or stoned or whatever to get a ride home. Wort case, couldn't you use a third party texting app set up to a hotline, like TextNow or Yolo?
