Nebraska should be booted from the Big 10. Rutgers too. (Just because.) Pick up Notre Dame and UConn as replacements and don’t even look back.

(Edit: yes, I’m aware there are many, many reasons this won’t happen.)
How is Uconn an improvement over Rutgers?

I agree on the other one. Move Neb back to B12 with the Oklahomas.

Honestly, they should just have Clemson play Alabama in a best of 5 series in December since we know it'd be them in the CG anyway.

Big 10 (and every other conference) would pick up ND in a heartbeat if the University wanted it.

If the argument is that it is safer to have football players on campus and monitored and tested and bubbled as opposed to them being off elsewhere, why wouldn’t that be true for other fall athletes as well?

I mean I know the answer to that question, but I object to not just saying it’s mostly about money when it’s mostly about money. And I am not saying that they aren’t going to make a good faith effort to keep the players safe, I’m saying they are mostly doing that to protect their money rather than some primary concern for student safety.
Also, if student safety was actually the biggest concern, wouldn't the proper decision be to have the players workout in the their home schools but NOT travel to other schools for games? Not that any of these conferences care a whit for logic, as we know.

Rome says hello.
The worst ones right now are former players that are in the media like Joel Klatt and Danny Kanell.

It comes back to something as simple as this: if you wanted college football this fall you should have taken the virus more seriously in the spring and summer. Everyone in the South and Midwest who enjoyed the heck out of MDW/July 4th/large house parties and also going out to the bars and restaurants are the ones who are clamoring for college football to be played. Can't have it both ways.

I *love* this idea. If ever there were a year to test-drive the idea of multiple-game playoff series in football, 2020 (or 2021) is it. Just get two (or four) teams into a bubble and let them play each other multiple times.

The amount of disdain being thrown at B1G is a joke. People care more about being entertained than the health and safety of those involved.
If this wasn’t true, football (and NASCAR, boxing, MMA, etc) wouldn’t exist at all.

I don’t have a problem with consenting adults agreeing to put themselves at a heightened risk if that’s what they want to do, they’re aware of the potential repercussions, and they’re not being coerced into doing it.

The problem here is that a breakout on a team very well might not stay on that team - imagine a scenario where a single player on, say, Texas gets COVID, passes it to someone on Oklahoma, and then the Oklahoma player goes to a party two nights later. You could pretty quickly wind up with a school-wise breakout that would t have happened if the games weren’t played. THAT’S why going forward with college football this fall is so selfish and greedy.

I don't have a problem with NFL players putting themselves at risk. I have a real problem with 18 year olds, with asymetric information, with a leverage disadvantage, and with not being paid in the normal sense, putting themselves at risk.

I was told in a meeting this morning that all athletes who have tested positive are required to get an EKG before they will be allowed to practice. Not sure if this is D-II only or all NCAA levels.

One coach then asked if it could be required for all athletes since there are so many asymptomatic cases, but was told insurance likely wouldn't cover that.

You will enjoy Desmond Howard's righteous rage over Nebraska's statements, then, since apparently the university has tripled down:

Against who? There's only 2 conferences in FCS that are currently still playing in the fall and there is no championship.
They might try to go rogue and play other SLC teams that want (Sam Houston wants to, as does McNeese) outside of any conference and as mostly exhibitions but still competition.

UConn football got decimated by crap teams in the American Conference. Imagine a full slate against Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, et al. UConn would set records for futility that would last forever.*

But it would be pretty fun for some of the other sports.

*Just to illustrate...UConn lost to Indiana 38-3 last year. Michigan beat Indiana 39-14. Ohio State beat Indiana 49-21. Penn State beat Indiana 45-14. I know it doesn't always work this way but those teams would beat UConn by like 70 without even breathing hard. UConn's average margin of defeat in the Big 10 would probably be ~40 points.

I mean, isn't Rutgers football sideways UConn football? Both were teams were in attractive media markets but not known as football schools. In the 90's, both programs saw the money being thrown around by the proto-BCS and wanted in. Rutgers was an over-matched part of the Big East (the early 90's football Big East with Temple, Va Tech, West Virginia, BC, Miami, etc.), and UConn was a I-AA power looking to jump to the big time.

Rutgers got to be the big boy of the Big East just as the football side of that conference fell apart (the Schiano Men really made their rep beating up on Conference USA teams, as the cream of the Big East was gone by 2006). Meanwhile the Huskies go to join the Big East just as it slipped out of the ranks of the power football conferences.

So by 2010 they were in the same boat -- stuck in a second-tier BCS conference, hoping the Power Five club would let them in. Rutgers got the call, UConn didn't. If it had gone the other way --UConn getting the Big 10, Rutgers abandoned in the American Athletic Conference, college football would generally be the same. UConn would now be the Big 10 doormat, and the Scarlet Knights would be thankful for an invite to the PapaJohn.com Bowl.

Is it better to rule in Hell or serve in Heaven?

ACC/Big12-2, you're on the clock. Duke, UT, it's time to lead.
Duke's leading all right, directly off a cliff.

https://247sports.com/Article/acc-presidents-will-vote-yes-on-fall-2020-football-season-thursday-florida-state-clemson-miami-150244967/
According to a report from Sports Business Daily, Duke Dr. Cameron Wolfe, an infectious disease specialist who chairs the ACC’s medical advisory team, said that doctors have a good enough of a grip on COVID-19 that the ACC season can move forward as schedule and be safe.

“We believe we can mitigate it down to a level that makes everyone safe,” Dr. Wolfe told THE DAILY exclusively. “Can we safely have two teams meet on the field? I would say yes. Will it be tough? Yes. Will it be expensive and hard and lots of work? For sure. But I do believe you can sufficiently mitigate the risk of bringing COVID onto the football field or into the training room at a level that’s no different than living as a student on campus.”

“You have to feel some level of comfortable playing in a non-zero risk environment,” Dr. Wolfe said, according to THE DAILY. “You can’t tell me that running onto a football field is supposed to be a zero-risk environment. Look at all of the regular sporting injuries that we accept as a certain level of risk as part and parcel of football. Now the reality is that we have to accept a little bit of COVID risk to be a part of that.”

I hate to ask because nobody ever cares, but what about the game officials / chain crew where the average age is in the 60s? Right in the middle of the slop.
And the coaches, and the team staff, and the other students and faculty the players might interact with off the field...

Yeah but I’m a huge hypocrite. I’m booked up to officiate fall scrimmages at some schools that haven’t closed yet. Well see if they actually go.

I know there's no chance but I kinda hope the SEC and all the other Big 5 conferences don't play football and some team like Sam Houston gets to declare themselves national champion by going 9-2 in the best conference that actually plays.

There's a decent chance SFA and SHSU play two or three times this fall.

North Dakota State and Samford have decided not to play football this fall. Also, the Ohio Valley Conference has moved league play to the spring but opened up the opportunity to play non-conference this fall. That makes all 13 FCS conferences that have moved league play to the spring. According to FCS guru Craig Haley, he has 26 FCS teams still possibly playing games in the fall.

Apparently parents at tOSU and Iowa have complained to the schools about the seasons being cancelled.
Oh, Rutgers had 30+ positive https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/29661484/rutgers-had-least-30-players-positive-coronavirus-coach-greg-schiano-says

One parent in the article did note that 2 back to back football seasons is too harsh on the body, which I would agree with but that seems unclear at this point.

If any of the "they should play" crowd has mentioned the safety of "the other students" at these so-called "schools," I've missed it.

And not just through interaction with the players. I'm certain that, even with no crowds allowed at games, there will still be plenty of tailgating and pre-game parties on campuses with football.

There is no way Duke and Wake would vote to play, they don't make enough on it and other reasons concerning reputation and size . GA Tech, Louisville (positives) and Syracuse should join them too. If they can get BC, UNC and UVA to join, that's enough, right? No super majority needed? Do public schools enjoy less or more legal protections?

I can see Clemson, FSU, and VT holding out as long as possible.
I forgot to list Nc State for some reason.

Turns out, they're pure scum. Just trash. Continuing to attempt to play football while going online-only for the non-athletes.

I don't think college football should be proceeding at all, but if the choices are (a) college football players on campus while thousands of other students are around and intermingling or (b) college football players on campus alone, (b) seems like a healthier option.

No. They should ship the while football team to a farm 159 miles from campus for their precious bubble.

Do you think he's referring to Big 12 schools particularly there, or do you think he means that if Big 12 football is canceled, the situation will be so dire that all college sports across the board will almost certainly be cancelled? And why would, say, men's golf be canceled in the spring if football is canceled in the fall? What's the connection?
Unless he means that if football isn't played in the Fall (and thus generate revenue) they won't be able to afford the other sports in the spring.

Hard to believe men's basketball would also be on the chopping block. They are probably the best conference in the NCAA top to bottom.

Or because football is so all powerful, they promised to raise a big whiny stink if they can't play but those other sports can.
