Prichard is two months older than Tatum.
Hopefully, Ainge knows something everybody else doesn’t know

Hard to see Danny taking another PG, so I'd be surprised by Terry. Bane, maybe. But think a big or a stash seems more likely.
After Nesmith, I was hoping for a point, a big, and a stash (either Europe or the G-League). While Ainge knows far more than I do, Pritchard is not the selection that I had hoped.

Jaden McDaniels on a team with KATman, Mr. DARcy, and Anthony Edwards? What could possibly go wrong?

If you're looking for a Wanamaker replacement, Pritchard kinda makes sense. 4 year college player steps in a lot more easily than Terry. It's not an upside pick, but makes sense from a roster building perspective.

Does Ainge add RWII to RWIII, or does he stash with Maledon?
Looking around, everyone seems to be talking about Maledon as if he is going to come over right away. Doesn't look like he would allow himself to be stashed.

For what it's worth, Pritchard was awesome to watch in college.

Wonder if he ends up ahead of Edwards/Waters on the depth chart.

But this is right in the area he was projected to go. Seems like everyone kinda knew.

Flynn at 29.

Celtics on the clock.

Best player is probably a PG... Terry
Lot of wings (Bane, RWII, etc.)
Best big is probably Tillman?

He was selected higher than both. Wouldn't be the biggest surprise and may even be likely depending on how he adjusts. Wouldn't be surprised if he's the only one on the team or if none are.

I think the Nesmith pick works out but I definitely think the draft didn’t fall the way Ainge wanted. Bolmaro going that early hurts.

Other than a draft and stash, trading the 30th pick made the most sense.

The Athletics take on PP

Vecenie’s scouting report: Man, I loved Payton in college last year. I voted him as a finalist for the Naismith Award, and he would have been No. 3 on my list. He’s fearless, tough, and I think he’ll be a really awesome backup point guard due to his ability to shoot and lead teams. I’m worried about his defense at the next level, though, and I think I would have gone with a number of different point guards ahead of him here, such as Tre Jones, Malachi Flynn, and Theo Maledon. He’s reasonable to take in this range, though, given that all the guards are so tightly bunched.

Ranking: No. 37

Hollinger’s team fit: I thought draftniks had undervalued Pritchard and that it was fair to pick him late in the first round like this, especially for a Boston team that could use another point guard. His improved shooting his senior year is a big plus. My only quibble is that I like Devon Dotson, Malachi Flynn and Theo Maledon slightly better in the backcourt.

Traded to Memphis. Do you think JJJ straight up works? Or does MEM have to throw in a pick too?

the 30th being traded on it's own probably means Pritchard was picked by Ainge, rather than for someone else.

Tjarks on the Pritchard Pick:

26. Boston Celtics: Payton Pritchard, G, Oregon

A drinking game based on scouting clichés about Pritchard could send someone to the hospital. He’s a gritty player, a coach on the floor, a true winner, someone who isn’t afraid to put his body on the line, and a gym rat. Celtics fans will love him. But don’t let the jokes overshadow his game. Pritchard should instantly be an excellent backup point guard and has the confidence and skill to knock down shots in big playoff games.
