Yahoo Sports with story that a league source said Trevor Lawrence is so good that the Jets should absolutely NOT fire Gase.

Until after season.
My friend had the same opinion yesterday.... probably right about when Flacco took a 27 yard loss on a sack.

I've heard Bienemy's name tossed around for the Jets. I'm sure having Trevor Lawrence would be enticing but wouldn't a better fit for him be down in Houston with Watson?

If Dabo was ever going to leave Clemson, going to either Houston with Watson or somewhere with Lawrence might be smart. I cannot see Dabo in NYC. I would take it but don’t think thats a good match. If somehow Jax or Atlanta got to #1, that seems a better fit.

Jets had 4 total yards in the Second half of today’s game.

FOUR!
how is that possible.

That blitz call was so terrible I hope there's an investigation.

Edit: and right after Agholor got behind the defense the play before!

The Jets' players should have ignored Williams' call. He was never going to survive the year anyways.

That guy shouldn't be hired as a ditch digger, let alone a football coach, ever again.
And yet, someone will hire him. It's remarkable how this guy just goes from job to job.

Boomer and Gio on WFAN this morning were speculating (but hardly sure) that he wanted to get fired now so that he could begin the search for his next job that much sooner.

Rich Cimini on ESPN this morning:

"The playcall was unprecedented in recent NFL history. According to research by ESPN Stats & Information, out of the 252 pass plays attempted under similar circumstances in the past 15 seasons, the Jets were the only defense to send more than six rushers."

Just watched this now ... this is Gregg Williams thinking he can impose his will on the opponent, right? More of that "kill the head, the body will die" bullshit from New Orleans?

It's him being a clown, but also it's a "I can do what I want" thing. Remember he was hired without Gase's approval and he has a long history of knifing his head coaches to show he's smarter than them.

Williams turns 63 in July. Given his checkered past and the stain of this play, is it inconceivable to think he might be done in the NFL as a coordinator? Like, maybe someone hires him as a consultant or something but who in their right mind is hiring him to be DC? Seems like the Jets would be the logical last stop.

With all the baggage and the debacle of the game yesterday, it's not impossible that this might have added a few nails to his coffin. He's such a jerk, he's a team cancer, and he's not even successful.

Joe Pos wonders how he got this job to begin with:

@JPosnanski

With the Jets firing Gregg Williams, I'm hoping someone will do a full explanation how a guy who was behind bounty-gate, turned an Aaron Donald defense into silly putty and was defensive coordinator for the 0-16 Browns got the job in the first place.
The funniest part is.,... one of the few things that wasn't Gase's fault, they told all the potential coaches that Williams was going to be their DC if they took the job.,

Just insanity

I don’t even hate Gase. He is not good and I’ll be happy for an upgrade but a lot of things he ate shit for he was correct about.

Well, if his incompetence ends up yielding Trevor, that's definitely something to love.
I don’t love him either, lol. I just can’t get mad at him. He is trying his ass off, he just isn’t good and the roster is bad. Bowles was better.

Gase gets the least out of his offensive players, who then become good once they get away from him. That is his super power. His other super power was being the OC for Peyton Manning, who ran the offense. Gase has gotten more out of Peyton than Peyton has.

I used to say similar things about Gase.

JohnMD nailed it. Gase will get the absolute least out of the talent on offense. Ryan Tannehill’s career died under Gase and he’s a Pro Bowl QB in Tennessee. Devante Parker went from DOA and a bust to a Pro Bowl level player last season. He pushed Jarvis Landry and Jay Ajayi off the roster when they were his best skill position players.

Gase is not not good. Gase is an awful coach that throws his players under the bus for his own shortcomings as a coach and a teacher of the game.

I know this because Brian Flores is a good coach and an excellent teacher of the game of football and a developer of talent.

You forgot his other great strength, not only does he get nothing out of his offensive players, he consistently alienates his best players and has the GM trade them for scraps.

Which Jets did he trade for scraps.
As sodenj5 notes it was more in MIA, but he was killing Bell's value and making it known he wanted him traded up until they had to release him, did get value for Adams. He'll probably already be fired when they trade Darnold for like a 4th.

Seems like we are saying some similar things but using different labels. You think he is awful, I think he is bad but has been proven correct on a few things. I will forever be grateful for him get Mike Maccagnan out of town in a hurry. That guy set this team back a decade.

Jets should be watchable starting next year(I watch every game anyway, but I mean it generally). That is a far cry from good, but the roster turnover that has been going on, the stocking up of draft picks, cap room, and hopefully a competent coach should make them watchable as a team.

Wasn't it Williams on Hard Knocks who basically admitted that he was going to undercut the head coach?

That Gregg Williams had any job in the NFL, post-bounty scandal, shows the extent to which the regressive good ol' boy network still permeates the league's hiring decisions. The league that blathers on incessantly about 'player safety' allowed a guy, who literally was paying for players to be hurt, to have four different jobs afterwards.

This isn't really professional behavior to admit to, Adam. Bill would have been onto Seattle at 4pm sharp on Sunday.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/30484719/new-york-jets-coaches-get-loss-raiders
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- New York Jets coach Adam Gase was so "pissed" by the last-second loss to the Las Vegas Raiders that it sent him and his coaches into a "funk."

On Wednesday, Gase called it one of the most difficult losses of his coaching career, admitting it has been difficult to move past it. He found it hard to adhere to the 24-hour rule, a coaching bromide.
