OJ Howard for Gronk. Do it now.Man that doesn't give us a lot of time ahead of Thursday. 45 is probably too rich but that would be ideal. They also have 76.
We can keep his rights, no? If he's retired it doesn't count against us. Can he unretire and hit our cap or do we need to agree?I have no idea how you value this? I mean he's been retired, you can't keep him because of cap....
They can’t keep him but I’m pretty sure they won’t have to keep him in the event that no trade happened. He wants to play with Brady. How much of a staring contest does BB want.I have no idea how you value this? I mean he's been retired, you can't keep him because of cap.... Marshawn traded with a 6th (ended up at 192) for a 5th (ended up as 146). Now Gronk is a much better and more valuable player than Marshawn, but also... the Patriots can't just keep him.
Maybe something like Gronk and 213 for 139 is probably the best you can hope for.
Had it a week before anyone else, unreal!Dayum. Credit to Leroy the Dog.
He can unretire and create a $9.25m cap hit. So I think the Pats HAVE to move him.We can keep his rights, no? If he's retired it doesn't count against us. Can he unretire and hit our cap or do we need to agree?
Are we trading 23 with gronk?Howard and a mid round pick. Get it done.
Sure, the point is more... the options are whatever TB will give us or nothing. Usually in a trade you have 3 options:They can’t keep him but I’m pretty sure they won’t have to keep him in the event that no trade happened. How much of a staring contest does BB want.
I think if he says that he's ready the Patriots would have to cut him in order to avoid taking on the cap. Not sure what the timing is though. We can keep his rights, no? If he's retired it doesn't count against us. Can he unretire and hit our cap or do we need to agree?
I agree -- the Pats would be lucky to get this much value.I have no idea how you value this? I mean he's been retired, you can't keep him because of cap.... It's something for nothing, so it's safe to say all Pats fans are aligned on trading him.Am I the only person who sees this as almost a best-case scenario for the Pats? Sure, I miss Gronk but there may not even be a season this year and we could get a draft pick with 4 years of control? Sign me up.

It would be weird if a retired player could by submitting paperwork immediately put a team over the cap during the league year so I'm sure there's some allowance for it.
We’ll see. TB is going to be pining for Gronk now, which helps the leverage a little. I’ll take whatever we can get.I agree -- the Pats would be lucky to get this much value.
I'm a little bit sad about it. I'm sure that stuff about being tired of getting injured was true but this kind of confirms that at the end of the day the problem was that he wasn't excited enough about playing for the Pats to take the risk of injury, but he is excited enough about the opportunity to play with the new thing down in Tampa and Brady that he is willing to put his body through all that again.A year too late. Not sure how to feel about this. Sad? Happy? Confused? Watching TB and Gronk on the bucs next year is going to make me sad I think.
I wonder whether TB would trade pick 45 for two 87s, Gronk and pick number 87.Gronk and Brady in TB? Package him with Jules and Tommy will be happy and motivated.
If the Pats can get a player of value or decent pick back for #87, win/win.
Yeah, there's nothing to hit the cap if he is cut because they already took the cap charge for his signing bonus, I'm pretty sure. All he has is the salary under his contract. The salary goes against the cap once he is on the team at least for the period until he is cut.You can't cut him to avoid the cap hit. If you cut him, he hits your cap.
I may be wrong about that:

I'm very curious if there's a rule about this.
If that's the best offer, walk away and see who blinks first. TB has a ton of pressure to get this done.Have to think best case scenario is maybe a 4th?
Nope. That's where I am.Am I the only person who sees this as almost a best-case scenario for the Pats? Sure, I miss Gronk but there may not even be a season this year and we could get a draft pick with 4 years of control? Sign me up.
Gronk could just retire again in this case. I'm sure the only way he'll play again is if he gets to play with Brady.I don’t believe the Patriots are going to keep him, but why couldn’t they theoretically trade someone else to create cap room and keep Gronk? I don’t understand why people think they have zero leverage, or maybe I don’t understand the cap.
But if trading the rights to a retired player brings him here, what's the loss? Even if he leaves after 1 season.I don't get the clamoring for OJ Howard. He is going to be a UFA after this year and is gonna get paid after. One year of Howard makes no sense to me.
He took physical for team that doesn't own his rights? If so, that implies this is further along...Just heard from Gronk, already took his physical for Bucs, trade not completed but he’s coming back for Bucs if all goes through.

The cap hit isn't the issue really. He won't file for re-instatement until the trade is agreed.I don’t believe the Patriots are going to keep him, but why couldn’t they theoretically trade someone else to create cap room and keep Gronk? I don’t understand why people think they have zero leverage, or maybe I don’t understand the cap.
If the choices for the Pats are get what you can from TB or release his rights, I think they’ll get what they can.You can't cut him to avoid the cap hit. If you cut him, he hits your cap.
I may be wrong about that -- Patscap thinks the Pats could be allowed to release his rights before he unretires.

OJ Howard isn't a UFA after this season; his team will have the fifth year option of just over $5mil. That's not a prohibitive amount if Howard plays up to his potential.I don't get the clamoring for OJ Howard. He is going to be a UFA after this year and is gonna get paid after. One year of Howard makes no sense to me.
They could but then Gronk just wouldn’t return. Assuming the reporting is true and he wants to be traded to TampaI don’t believe the Patriots are going to keep him, but why couldn’t they theoretically trade someone else to create cap room and keep Gronk? I don’t understand why people think they have zero leverage, or maybe I don’t understand the cap.
That cannot be true. I thought all team facilities are closed and that no medical reports or physicals can be completed. So how could they complete an exam in Tampa?Just heard from Gronk, already took his physical for Bucs, trade not completed but he’s coming back for Bucs if all goes through.

Of course, one could say "If the choice for Bucs is to get HOF TE for OJ Howard or the 45th pick you do it."If the choices for the Pats are get what you can from TB or release his rights, I think they’ll get what they can.
Doesn't say IN Tampa, but I don't know...That cannot be true. I thought all team facilities are closed and that no medical reports or physicals can be completed. So how could they complete an exam in Tampa?
