DidI say "far better"? They're a better team. The Dolphins have a nice win against SF and a trouncing of the Jets that pretty much accounts for the point differentiational plus the JAX win. Look, Im not trying to rain on the parade here and I'm not trolling or baiting, but come on.
My dude the question was literally are they much better than the Dolphins and your response was “yes.”

We’re arguing semantics now. Miami has the better defense and a worse offense. Both teams are good.

The Bills also have the 4th toughest strength of schedule remaining, and Miami has the 20th. Again, I think Buffalo wins the division, but they’ve played an easier schedule and have some tough games ahead.

$100 to the Jimmy Fund on who ends up up with the better record. Lemme know who wants a piece.
Are we spotting you two games? Dawg, no one is arguing that Buffalo isn’t likely to win the division. We’re saying they aren’t a much better team than Miami.

Is the season where it is? Then yeah, I guess you're spotting me 1.5 games. Look, this isn't me trying to come here and waive my d around and talk shit; the Pats suck, I knew they would, expected them to and there's record of me saying it here. I wish they had flat out tanked. But the Bills area good team, and better than the Fins. Sorry. Again, any takers.

I see what this is.

You haven’t lost four games in a row in about 20 years. You came here because we know what it’s like. It sucks, brother. But the night is always darkest before the dawn.

If you needed guidance, you could have just asked.

Every time Gaskin runs the ball I wind up pissed off at the Ravens. Pissed at the Ravens for unexpectedly taking J.K.. Dobbins one pick before Miami.

As for today, it would have been hard for me to envision a scenario where Miami would win by double digits and I’d come away not feeling like I know much more about Tua than I did when he threw two passes vs. the Jets.
If I want to optimistic, I guess it would be the completion to Grant (I think). Where he starts left and works back to the right to complete a deep out. That’s the type of throw not every QB is going to be able to make.
Hopefully there’s a lot more positives next week.

While Tua was a wash, the person I thought the most of after this game was Grier (and the front office). They invested a lot on the defensive side. And it certainly is starting to pay off. For once I actually feel like there is synergy and a shared vision in the organization and it has them moving in the right direction.

Here is one thing I dont quite get about the Fish and they did a lot of things that seem logical. The Chan Gailey hire is a big question mark for me. Now, I get that he is very simpatico with Fitz, but what I don’t get is why you want to bring up a young franchise QB with a 68 year old OC. Is Gailey planning to stick around?

Gailey is an OG Godfather of the spread offense. He was running spread and pistol in the NFL way before it became the norm.

He was brought in because he’s supposed to be able to mold the offense to Tua so it resembles something like his Bama offense. We saw it in a few glimpses.

I don’t know how long Gailey sticks around, but coordinators shift all across the league constantly. Extremely rare when you have a Pats situation like BB and JMcD for ages.

Yea... Gaskin’s limitations were very evident today. Not fast enough to really break any big runs. Not big or strong enough to be able to bang it between the tackles when you really need the yards.

He’s a nice RB2, but I’ll be happy when they upgrade the position in the offseason.

The defense is no joke. You’re starting to see the vision crystallize. Will be a big test next week vs Kyler Murray and DeAndre Hopkins. Murray is exactly the type of QB that has given Miami fits in the past. He’ll also force Miami to play more zone to keep eyes on him and get them out of their press man comfort zone.

Arizona’s arguably more dynamic with Drake injured. Or at least that’s what I’d argue, now that Edmonds is starting. Maybe he’s more suited for a limited role? Guess we’ll see, but he’s looked like the better back in that roll

What a great team win today, with Special Teams (Haack, Grant) and the defense playing exceptionally well. Big props to Flores, also, of course, for implementing such an effective game plan. He certainly has McVay/Goff figured out.

Tua looked rusty and occasionally rattled today, but he was also held back a bit by a few drops and relatively vanilla play calling. It would have been nice to see at least one long, sustained drive, but in focusing on the positive:

1) Tua's healthy! He got hit a few times and shoot it off. It was great to see.
2) Tua's 1st TD to Parker was a pretty one.
3) The shot down the field to Gesicki should have been caught.

My thoughts on Gaskin are similar to just about everyone else's -- I've said so for a while. His limitations were highlighted today due to the Rams' dominant front seven. I fully expect the Dolphins to bring in another RB or two in the offseason. It's unfortunate seeing a guy like Tony Pollard stuck behind Elliot in Dallas.

Miami's Tua-lead offense is going to have to play significantly better to have a shot at besting Arizona on the road next week.

Regarding the Dolphins/Bills debate?

Let's say Miami manages to win vs. the Cards, while the Bills lose to Seattle. I still think it's unlikely Miami out-wins the Bills down the stretch, which is what they'd have to do, considering that Buffalo is currently 4-0 in the division. (Not sure how the 3rd tie-breaker would shake out if Miami wins out vs. the division and the Bills lose to the Patriots or Jets in Round 2.) But, hey, that's why they play the games.

Coming into Sunday, Miami was ranked 12th in DVOA and Buffalo was 13th. This before Miami dominated the 5th ranked team in DVOA, the Rams.

Again, they probably can’t catch the Bills, but Miami is as good as them, and their defense has been playing like one of the best in the league since Howard and Jones have been on the field together.

This is highly hilarious considering the source.
I know you are, but what am I?

People have rightfully called out Sodenj for being a horrendous troll for strolling into every Patriot thread after a brutal loss and being a jerk. It's poor message boarding and shitposting. Sodenj wrote the book on being obnoxious in this forum.

And after Miami crushed the Rams with a QB who could barely do anything and you're mozying into the Dolphins thread and shitposting, with "feelings" and "beliefs" but not facts. It's weak, lazy, and rude. You're doing the "soden".

But you do you, as I understand it, nobody has ever had a problem with your behavior.

IMO, if they can get players who can help them in the future, they should, but they shouldn't go after any one-year rentals. The Dolphins are improved, but this isn't their year.

Exactly where I would stand as well. One year rentals or guys that don’t fit the long term plan would be a waste of draft capital. Miami is at least a year away and giving up any of their premium picks is a step backwards.

Not even sure who would fit that bill exactly, but they could definitely use help at RB and WR.

Just looking through a few lists and not many inspiring names. Will Fuller is intriguing, but he’s nearly always injured and is a pending free agent. Michael Gallup from Dallas would also be interesting.

Only RBs of note I saw were Adrian Peterson and Frank Gore. Don’t see much additional upside there.

Probably why Miami was going so hard after Lev Bell.

Well, they were in on AB and Leveon Bell. I think they know they need two WRs and at least one RB. their weapons are really poor

"Per source, reason Dolphins acquired RB today is Myles Gaskin has sprained MCL and expected to miss three games."
Honestly might be a blessing in disguise. Will force them to get Brieda some reps over the next few weeks.

I have a ton of respect for the Arizona Cardinals, particularly as it pertains to Kyler Murray, Chase Edmonds, and Nuk Hopkins as players; as well as Vance Joseph, the Defensive Coordinator. Joseph did a really nice job in his brief time in Miami and seems to have AZ defense playing better than many expected heading into the season. He isn't afraid to blitz and mix up coverages, as I read recently that the Cardinals create pressure around 23.5% of the time, while blitzing over 38% of defensive snaps. Arizona's coming off of the BYE and playing at home, which is always a nice thing, as well.

Two items interest me most about this game:

1) Flores' plan to contain Murray and the Cardinals offense.

Thus far this year, Miami's struggled with mobile quarterbacks (Cam, Allen), and Kyler's only 2nd to Lamar in terms of pure rushing talent. Murray's a beast in the red zone; the Cardinals are ranked 5th overall in that area. Can the Dolphins hold Arizona to 24 points or less? It bears noting that Murray has been prone to turning the ball over. He's thrown interceptions in all but 2 games this year, 7 total on the season.

2) The media turning on Tua.

Goodness. Remember when only children were continually plugged to their cell phones and struggled to wait for anything? Well, they've grown up and now seemingly operate podcasts and positions providing sports coverage. (Sorry, I don't have an excuse for Coherd.)

After Miami sat on a 28-7 lead last week (you know, like they did when up 21-0 at halftime against the Jets), the national media is screaming out, asking, "Does Tua have 'it'?" Unreal. Ironically, many are doing so while simultaneously exalting Kyler Murray, the same guy who threw 7 interceptions in the first 5 games of his rookie reason last year. How's that going now?

I think it's clear that Tua wants to be great, and it's incredibly likely he's been hearing the noise. As a result, I'm really excited to see how he responds.

That said, as far as I'm concerned, I just want to see 2 things: 1) Continued improvement and 2) Sustained health.

Mark my words: For Tua, it's a matter of when, not if, that he shows the it factor.

Bonus:

I'm also looking at you, Chan. Miami's without Gaskins, Breida, and Bowden. How creative will he get to generate rush-like yards? Jakeem Grant and Malcom Perry are playmakers and need to be used as such.

Would love to see some chemistry develop between Tua and Gesicki. Only two targets last week, one of them a really nice throw deep that was catchable, but well-covered and dropped.

Unless our D & ST plan on carrying the day again it feels like Miami will be playing catch-up in this game. Tua will likely have his opportunities in the face of a lot of pressure. I wonder if they'll build in some oportunities, or if opportunities will present themselves, to make a difference on the ground.

Definitely. Gesicki's certainly due for a big game and has arguably been under-utilized, overall, this season.

The Cardinals haven't been good against the run this year. This likely would have been a plus game for Gaskin. Any chance Jordan Howard and his fresh legs run very, very angry today?

Watching the ESPN fantasy pregame and they mentioned that Howard was 20th at RB last season. I didn't realize that. Seems like maybe the injury slowed him just enough this season to render him marginal on the roster. I hope he can do just enough today to keep the ARI D honest, and buy Tua a few miliseconds here and there to let that quick release do its magic.

I guess this team is for real after all. Holy shit, what a win. Gutty as hell.
Incredible. I think Byron Jones knocked Murray loopy on that third down hit and that is what changed the outcome of the game as Kingsbury didn't run him again

No idea how Zane Gonzales didn’t hit that FG. I wasn’t a fan of Flores kicking the FG on the next to last drive.

Miami made several big stops when they absolutely had to have them. Jones sticking Murray was a huge play. Sieler blowing up that 4th and 1 run was huge.

Tua shined brightest when Miami needed him to. He made plays with his arm, but also a few big ones with his legs. Down RBs 1 and 2 and WR2 went out after scoring a TD. Didn’t matter Tua was still carved them up. The lack of a running game remains a concern, but that’s a worry for another week.

Flying cross country, down players and coaches due to Covid, playing a red hot Cardinals team, with the type of QB that typically kills Miami. Defense made enough plays and the big plays when it mattered. Offense won the day and outperformed my expectations.

Can't argue with any of this.

Murray's a difficult player to limit, but the Dolphins managed to make things difficult, when needed. Miami also came really close to making two additional big, game-changing plays. The first was on one of the 4th-down plays from Arizona at the end of the 3rd quarter, where the Dolphins defense caused Murray to spin back and lob a prayer toss to DeAndre Hopkins. The refs called Howard for the PI -- but it was a complete bailout call. If that's a turnover on downs, like it should have been, Miami's in prime position for a scoring opportunity. Then, there's that Byron Jones intercept -- wait, no, it's an AZ touchdown! -- that was truly a bad decision by Kyler. What a grab by Darrell Daniels.

I had this game chalked up as a likely close loss, with the onus being on Tua's play. Did he look comfortable? Confident? Competent? Did he stay healthy? To have all those questions answered with an emphatic, "Yes!" ... and have the game be a win? Awesome.

We'll continue to learn more about this team week after week. Miami's now beat up on the offensive side of the ball. The media hype around the team will be incessant all week long. Will the Chargers come in desperate or lackluster, after another brutal loss on Sunday? I'm guessing it'll be the former. Thus, the stage is set for a potential letdown game, if the Dolphins aren't careful.

Interested to see what happens, because with home games against the Chargers and Bengals and road games versus the Broncos and Jets upcoming, 8-4 or 9-3 is a realistic goal heading into the final 4-game stretch.

Posted back on 10/12:

It's only been a season and about a 1/4 for Flores in Miami, but what we've seen thus far suggests that, like BB, his team will get better as the season goes on. It's certainly happened last year, and we're seeing it now. If that continues, as expected, and the team's health remains relatively stable, things could get interesting. How?

Well, for the sake of this discussion, let's say Miami takes care of the NYJ next week. I think they will. That will leave them 3-3 headed into a Week 7 BYE, which I think is an advantageous schedule change for them.

Then, headed into Week 8, they face the following schedule: Rams (home), Cards, Chargers (home), Broncos, Jets, Bengals (home)

*Note: Always love WC teams coming to Miami. The Rams have been the exception in winning many of these contests.

Is it crazy to think they could take 5 out of 6 of those games and be 8-4 headed into the hardest portion of their schedule? KC, NE, LV, Buffalo.

The recipe: QB ("Good Fitz"), continued strong offensive line, and a tough, patented Flores' defense. Such a combination could lead to an improbable, fun season.

Edit: One possibility that hasn't been talked about, or at least I haven't seen it anywhere ...

What if Miami, as a team, continues to get better and manages to win games despite inconsistency from Fitzpatrick? Now, around Week 10-ish, could Tua be considered as part of a playoff push? Sure, a lot would have to happen, but I don't think the scenario is entirely impossible.
Who would've thunk it?

Sounds crazy, but I’m confident that Flores will have his team ready to play the next few weeks. Well coached teams don’t play down to their competition.

Flores is smart and he knows these next few weeks are critical to Miami making a playoff push. The December schedule is tough, so getting fat on these “easier” games is essential.

AZ definitely got lucky a few different times, but Kingsbury is the goat of the game for them. He called a timeout at the end of the first half and ended up punting the ball to Miami. Miami takes the ball and ends up getting a long Sanders FG to close out the half. Final margin of victory? 3 points.

He also went for every 4th down like a 12 year old playing Madden, but when it came down to the critical plays, he took the ball out of Murray’s hands both on the 4th down run Miami stuffed and the FG that Gonzalez missed.

I still believe that Jones knocked Murray little loopy on the at third down run before the handoff to Edmunds that Miami stopped. Murray did not run again after that hit and his pass on 4th down the next possession was mediocre as well (yes, he completed the pass to Cink prior)

Could be. I give Murray credit for selling out to try and get the first down, but he took a few big shots in that game in attempting to get first downs. Jones and I believe Elandon Roberts really got him on a third down just short of the sticks as well.

Again, credit his toughness there, but those are definitely not the types of hits you want your pocket sized franchise QB taking in a regular season game.

Obviously, losing 2 defensive starters for COVID-related reasons isn't ideal. Here's hoping at least one of Van Noy or Wilkins, if not both, are available to play on Sunday. From what I've read, it appears as though their availability will be dependent upon when they had contact with a person who tested positive for COVID. Any day after Monday (or Tuesday?) = no dice. Hopefully there will be some clarity on this later today.

Losing Preston Williams to injury is also unfortunate, but I don't think it'll be a primary factor for this Sunday against the Chargers depleted secondary. More so, I think generating some success on the ground (Breida, Washington?) and continuing to pass block effectively for Tua will be key, as he looks to spread the ball around to Parker, Grant, Gesicki, and, really, any one else who lines up and manages to get separation.

In other news, based on Jesse Davis' interview this week, he may be the guy on the outside looking in, now that Jackson's returned. With a Jackson-Flowers-Karras-Kindley-Hunt Front-5, it's pretty crazy to that the Dolphins best OL configuration may include 3 rookies. Miami did work in 6 OL last week, and that may continue.

Clearly less than ideal, but Van Ginkle filled in well when KVN missed time. Wilkins will likely be the bigger loss as the defensive line rotation gets shorter and you probably want to generate pass rush inside on Herbert.

OK, so they were far from great today. they struggled to stop the run and couldn't get first downs to ice the game in the second half when they needed them. But they keep making plays to win games. And Tua is legit. Incredibly accurate and incredibly quick release.

We know this team is flawed and has no weapons on offense, but the defense has some real playmakers. And most importantly, its fun! 6-3, half game out of first, with @ Denver, @ Jets and Cincinnati next three weeks...

Apparently that was one of the greatest defensive game plans ever, unless the Chargers really came into the game thinking, “we need to get Kalen Ballage the ball as much as possible”...in which case that would be the worst offensive game plan ever.

The Chargers may not be a great team, but they have guys that scare you on offense. It was pretty shocking how little production Allen and Williams had, and how Miami was able to avoid the big play. Another feather in the defense’s cap.
