Rumors out of Gonzaga is Tommy Lloyd will be the next Arizona coach. Huge for both programs if true. Good for Zona and bad for the Zags

Women's ball is quarters now, with the 5-fouls-is-a-bonus-and-is-two-shots rule.

They also can advance the ball to midcourt after a time out, same as the NBA. I hate that rule at any level, but understand that in the NBA it ain't going away.

Gonzaga snags the #1 HS recruit in the country. 7-1" center Chet Holmgren from Minnesota (he knows Suggs well). He chose Gonzaga over Georgetown, Memphis, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina and Ohio State.

His highlights are something else. He has all the skills in the world, but his frame makes Manute Bol look beefy.

Changing the foul rule is weird. That is, the number of fouls you can commit per half. If you stay foul-free in the first half you should have more than three available to you in the second half. You’d be in the same boat as a guy who committed three in the first half - both of you can only have three in the second half. So it seems to actually be kind of punitive to the players who stay foul-free in the first half.

Hartford made the dance this year and announced today they are dropping down to Division 3. I believe that's going to be an intra-state even swap, however; New Haven seems to be planning on moving up.

Leaving in a bit to the studio :)
Did the pandemic somehow give players an extra year of eligibility?

One of our older son's friends here in town (they were the starting forwards on the 3rd travel team, but it was all downhill from there) started for four years at South Carolina, but one season was cut short by a major ortho incident. He transferred to Providence for grad school, but media accounts say that he still has two years of eligibility:

"announced his entry into the NBA Draft and the NCAA transfer portal in early April. He retains a potential two seasons of eligibility and has not signed with an agent. "

Yes. It’s going to cause a ton of chaos in the next few years.

Yes, that is Justin Minaya. He’s the son of former Mets GM Omar Minaya. He entered last season having played 3 years at USC but only 2 of them counted toward his eligibility as one season was cut short by injury prior to the midway point of the season. So for eligibility purposes he played last year as a redshirt junior......but since all players received a “free year” he will return again as a junior with 2 years of eligibility remaining at Providence.

Edit: So you really ARE Omar’s Wacky Neighbor!!

So assuming that you missed my rather infrequent semi-insider posts from ~15 years ago, stuff that never showed up in the press (O's a salesman at heart, so he really has the gift of gab)?

We had a great town travel team, and a great middle school team, and could have possibly had an even greater CYO team if we hadn't gotten a new pastor in just as the boys were getting started. He put his foot down, and unlike many of the CYO teams in the area and our previous pastor, he refused to let the understood one or two non-Catholic in-town ringers onto the team. Minayas attended services at the Christian church directly across the street from our RC church, but that wasn't good enough for our pastor.

For you UVM hoop fans out there...HoopDirt has associate head coach Kyle Ciplecki heading to Pitt in an administrative role. A very surprising move. Another assistant and the director of ops also left earlier in the offseason along with an athletic department staff member that worked closely with men's basketball.

Are they hiring interns/assistants part time (asks the father of a college sophomore who wants to get into coaching...god help me)?

Red- any word on the America East conference moves? I know Hartford is dropping to DIII. With questions about UVM, and your school rumored to be looking at a bigger conference, are they a dead man walking?

Which school is "Bleed Red's" that is perhaps looking to move to another league? I could see Stony Brook moving over to the CAA to join their football team; that's about it from that group.

Cuse basketball heads, a lot to unpack here:

Boeheim presser, Jimmy in fine form.

JB called Syracuse 2022 recruiting class the best ever, many underrated players according to Jimmy (he usually isn't effusive about recruits/freshmen)

This year's squad has tons of 3pt shooting according to Gerry Mac

I've attached a youtube show called "Storied", a behind-the-scenes look at the Syracuse program.
