Okay, i'm starved for C's banter, so what do you think about next year. Hayward is obviously the big wild card, I'm hoping he opts in and they get one more run with this cast. With Hayward we have

Tatum
Walker
Brown
Hayward
Smart
Theis
RW
GW
Edwards
Langford

Then we have
Kanter (team option)
Green (non guaranteed)
Wanamaker (free agent)
Ojeleye (team option)
Tacko (RFA)
Waters (RFA)
Poirier (minimum contract, could be cut)

It's a very solid first 6. Big question is how much do you expect out of the next 4, young guys with potential. If a couple of them can step up with some offseason growth, the rotation looks pretty good. One vet acquisition to fill Wanamker's slot? Does Kanter get re-upped? Did Tacko, Waters and Poirier show enough to warrant bringing them back? Can we unload Edwards and his contract? What about the 3 firsts?

Have at it.

Revenues will see a meaningful impact. How much? not sure... So to have some banter on next seasons roster, we'd have to agree on a projected cap. But I'll throw in my 2 cents (w/the caveat that the cap takes a big hit):

1. Hayward takes his 1yr Celtic option since so few teams, in win-now mode, will have the cap room. He goes to UFA after 2020-21

2. Starting 5 would be the same: KW, JT, JB, DT, GH

3. Smart returns as the 6th man

4. Brad stops saying the "best 5" since Theis adds a ridiculous amount of value

5. Small quibble, Kanter has a player option. I'd love for him to return at $5MM, he was awesome when healthy this season.

6. Romeo and Grant showed something, I'd expect offseason growth. Both become rotation wing players.

7. Danny should add an experienced BIG, on the cheap (vet min) to be part of a 3-headed monster at the 5

8. TL is the 4th string 5, plays more if he can stay healthy, otherwise, I wouldn't bank on him.

9. 50/50 chance, Semi and Brad come back, on the cheap, as deep bench players

10. Probably add a player or two from draft, deal the rest of the picks or use for euro stash

11. Edwards, Waters, VP, Tacko, Green???? #roster crunch

Good catch on Kanter. He was certainly effective the first half of the season. If health gets him back to that I'd be glad to see him back. Given his long history of defensive ineptitude I'm guessing the first half was more an aberration than the second. I'd be glad to see him move on and another vet in his place. I'm already lobbying for the return of the Aussie dude we had.

BIGS will be plentiful on the FA market and cheap to be had, so not terribly worried about finding a back-up 5. Enis may not find a better deal than $5MM, that will be a lot of money for classic 5s this offseason.

I'm firmly in the camp that it was right at the point of his hip injury that he lost mobility and leg strength (which his entire around the rim game is predicated upon). Kanter rushed back because Celtic fans favorite binky, Rob Williams, was suffering from his 11th different injury over the last 18mths.

Enis Kanter's 36 games before injury: 18.5mpg / 9.5pts / 8.5rebs / .9blks
15 games post-injury: 14.9mpg / 4.9pts / 6.7rebs / .4 blks

SSS aside, to the eye test he looked like he was playing on one leg.

A healthy Kanter is a good limited minute 5 for specific situations. CBS is able to exploit his strengths and hide his weaknesses, as long as he has a bunch of other healthy 5s to rotate w/EK. In addition to that, Enis has a fantastic attitude which is needed for a veteran bench player. I'd expect him to trigger his player option.

Obviously I'd love AB to return, but wouldn't be shocked to see the Suns overpay him.

I'm all in favor of Boston drafting Precious Achiuwa to be their C of the future.

deep inside Guido territory
A core of Walker/Tatum/Brown/Gobert would be awesome. Imagine a starting 5 of Walker, Smart, Tatum, Brown, and Gobert defensively. If Hayward picks his option up, trade him and draft picks to Utah for Gobert. After this year, Gobert and Hayward both would be pending UFA's.

Yet as Mitchell made clear on March 16 during his video call visit with “Good Morning America,” he was not happy about the part Gobert played in the entire saga. Considering all the efforts the Jazz had taken to educate their players on the matter and to ensure their safety, it’s not hard to see why there would be frustration with anyone who was still downplaying the disease. Now, though, they must find a way to move forward.
The Jazz have already begun working on the Mitchell-Gobert relationship, but sources say Mitchell remains reluctant to fix what might have been broken.
“It doesn’t appear salvageable,” one source with knowledge of the situation said.

They also have three first round picks, albeit in a not great draft year. This is the off-season in which Trader Danny really needs to package a bunch of picks and young players for a single impact player. There are not going to be enough minutes to go around.

They do need a bench scorer who spaces the floor and backup to Theis (or potentially light upgrade). That’s about it. Their ability to manage the salary cap makes trading a bunch of chips in for a big addition who is low cost difficult. Great if they can do it but if they can’t it might make sense to just push some of these assets out 2-3 years when they’ll be needed and more valuable to the team.
