More Hader buzz this AM, would you guys trade Andujar/Deivi/Happ (and his whole deal) for Hader? He is 25, lefty, and controlled for four seasons.
Wow, I don't know. Wouldn't it make more sense to separate Deivi and Happ if possible? I'd rather give Andujar and a different prospect in one trade then Happ + a different prospect in another.

No because after the upcoming season there will be some uncertainty in the SP rotation. Paxton and Tanaka will be FA, and we don’t know how that will play out. So, that leaves the team with Cole, Montgomery and German and minor league assets like Deivi.

So, Deivi should be kept to see how he can develop as SP or if he is traded then in a package for proven MLB SP.

Gardner deal even better than reported according to Joel Sherman:

“ Gardner is $10M for 2020, $10M club option for 2021 with a $2.5M buyout. #Yankees The 2020 breakdown is $2M signing bonus, $8M salary. #Yankees”

Looks like the initial reports were the guaranteed money combined in those 2 years. Nice deal now that we have all the facts.

You did forget Severino as was said, and it becomes a question of how NY rates their prospects internally, Schmidt and Gil and Medina and whoever. They probably should try to keep Deivi out of a Hader deal but man it is tempting.

Also keep in mind that NY has to open up 40 man spots for Cole and presumably Gardner soon, hopefully Maldonado also, so they need to move guys.
This is Cashman’s top priority now that Cole has been reeled in.

You have been all over the 40-man surplus for a year now, Jon. It’s not a simple subject but you have given us Cliff Notes forever. You need to set up a pay wall! Or your own website.

Looks like Rony Garcia may go first in the rule 5 in a few minutes, NY protected a ton of young pitching but will likely lose a few others today.

Thanks! I don’t like the idea of mandatory posting or of this turning into a job, I’ve already largely killed my love of music by running a label for 20 years, I don’t want to do that for baseball.

Rony Garcia goes first in the rule 5 to DET, didn’t want to lose him but you can’t protect everyone.

Austin Romine close to signing a two year deal with DET, good for him. Is his brother still there?

MLB phase of the rule 5 is over, which means Gittens and Holder and Daniel Alvarez etc are safe.

It's tempting but also a little scary that we are so left handed if we acquire Hader.

On the other hand, he dominates both.

I like the idea of going after Hader and would probably trade those guys, but it really depends on the internal assessment of Deivi.

Andrew is a free agent. Spent last season in Phillies org, at Lehigh Valley. 33 years old. I covered Austin and Andrew’s father Kevin 30 years ago in Pawtucket.

A deep and formidable roster. The 5th rotation spot (Montgomery or King or Deivi) in itself is very exciting if it turns into an audition for minor league talent. They definitely have the luxury of doing that considering the 1-4.

It will likely only be for a month or so until German is back, but of course guys always get hurt so there will be chances.

So NY lost a bunch of guys in the minor league rule 5 but no one exciting. The 'big' news there is that they kept both Kyle Holder and Chris Gittens who help their depth, think of them as the rough equivalent of Thairo Estrada and Mike Ford this time last year.

He's more likely to have the job to start the season than Bubba Crosby was, but either way NY needs to add a third guy with options. I still think/hope they bring in Maldonado but Higgy is out of options.

The Brewers only have 34 players on their 40 man currently, an ideal match in that respect for a 4 for 1 or 5 for 1 deal for Hader.

Hader wouild make us likely to win the next 2 seasons since we got cole as long as miliw does not want every good postept this wouild be a good deal

i think only INJ or running in to a real hot NL team in oct can stop us

I gotta be honest, after re-reading the Hader tweets, I'm really hesitant. Has he shown in any real way that he's not that sort of person? I get it, he was 15 or 16 years old but my goodness.

I'm somewhat indifferent to Hader since he was just a kid. Moving on from Chapman and German would be fine by me though.

Just want to say that I'm with ThePrideofShiner. Not to re-examine the whole deal or guess what's in his mind and heart now, but I don't really want to root for Hader.

Very likely he'll never see the bigs, but today NY signed minor league FA Thomas Milone, a 3rd round pick in 2013 out of high school by TB. He grew up as a Yankee fan in CT and is a very fast CF who is quite good defensively but hasn't hit much yet. He will likely be in Trenton to start the season, I'd guess.

Big fan of this signing. Good defensive player, has shown a touch more with the bat of late. Absolutely no risk, and while likely no reward, more signings like this are always welcomed.

The clock is ticking on NY needing to make some kind of trade to clear their 40 man overflow, they will need to announce Cole and Gardner officially soon and they don't have 40 man spots for either as of now. They've got to move pitching, they have a ridiculous 26 pitchers on the 40 man now if you include Cole and German (still in suspension limbo).

Rumor (don't think it's official?) that the Cole press conference is tomorrow, which means at least one 40 man move before that. Just do it Michael Corleone-style, Hader, Lindor, Maldonado, bring them all to the Cole signing. :)

Now Bryan Hoch is saying the press conference is Wednesday at the earliest, even though Cole has already been photographed in NYC today.

NY signs old buddy Adam Warren to a minor league deal but I believe he is out for the entire season after having Tommy John surgery in September, so I'm confused about this currently.

"Free-agent right-hander Adam Warren to #Yankees on minor-league deal, source tells The Athletic. Salary of $800K in majors plus $100K each for 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55 and 60 appearances. If not on 26-man roster on Aug. 28, may be released for spot on another club’s 26-man roster."

No one is talking about the TJS so maybe it didn't actually happen? One Padres reporter reported that in October when they released him, but maybe they were wrong.

OK, here we go, it's one of these deals:

"As has been reported, Adam Warren did indeed have Tommy John surgery in September, so he's unlikely to pitch in 2020. His minor-league deal with the Yankees is actually a two-year deal, per source, so he'll rehab in 2020 and the Yankees will still control his rights for 2021."

Ah! I love this type of deal. Last time we did this, IIRC, was Jon Lieber.

Gut feeling guesses as to the chances NY adds the following in the next week or two:

Josh Hader: 40% (a 4 for 1 where NY overpays makes too much sense both ways)
Francisco Lindor 20% (it would be a lot higher but as I said with Bauer previously, I think CLE sends him to the NL if at all possible and definitely not to NY. Five years of Gleyber has to be pretty tempting though...)
Martin Maldonado 60% (I think this would have happened already if they didn't genuinely like Higashioka so much, so maybe it is a question of figuring out how to somehow have both behind Sanchez)
Dellin Betances 2% (How does he not get as much as Pomeranz from someone? Which one of those two would you rather have for the next four years?)

OK, we have discovered Mike Tauchman's weakness, phone interviews. I was going to post how uncomfortable he sounded on tonight's YES show before he literally said 'comftability', I believe going for comfortability but not quite getting there.

Cole press conference is officially at 11 AM tomorrow, still no 40 man move by NY.

"Per the Yankees, the following will be attending Wednesday's presser: Hal Steinbrenner, Randy Levine, Lonn Trost, Brian Cashman, Michael Fishman, Gerrit Cole, Amy Cole, Aaron Boone, Matt Blake and Scott Boras."
