Jets look to be without LT Kelvin Beachum which means Brandon Shell will play in his place. Adam Gase says CJ Mosley and Chris Herndon may return to practice this week.

Looking back at yesterday, Sam Darnold was really good. You could tell that the entire team played with more confidence knowing that they had a legit QB. Jamal Adams said as much after the game to CBS. It will be a much bigger challenge than in the previous matchup to play them defensively.

Definitely a good first test for this defense, better than what we've seen so far but not quite to the caliber we will soon face in BAL/PHI. Still, even with Darnold this is still a below-average NFL offense, right? You can probably cheat up a safety to help contain Bell or Sam's scrambling, because they don't have enough receivers talent to make you worry on the back end.

The problem is the line. The skill positions are pretty good WR: Anderson, Crowder, DT; TE: Herndon; RB: Bell, Montgomery, Powell.

Pats D is good so I expect the oline trouble to cause the Jets fits.

On the other side of the Ball, the Jets getting a look at the Pats once already and Mosley coming back (if he does) should help the D scheme. We are very weak at CB so Brady will filet us if we cant get any pressure. We have been stout against the run whenever we have a decent ILB but those guys keep going down,

This game should resemble a football game. Pats should still win going away but there is the possibility the Jets could play well. That was not the case in the first matchup.

Wouldn't surprise me if this was the first loss of the season. They aren't losing to Miami this year and they've already escaped the trip to Buffalo. This seems like the right moment for a 17-13 loss that both plays into the storyline that the Jets with Darnold are a different team, and takes care of the notion that there's any tam so complete out there that they can go undefeated.

Certainly the case on the road with a patchwork O-line, with the potential for Gunnar to be playing WR again. My hope is that this is a game the Pats would have lost 20-17 in the past, but the D is good enough now to win 17-13.

Pats O started slowly last 2 weeks. I expect the opposite.

Also expect our defense to outscore their offense.

Is it really a better test than the Steelers with a healthy Roethlisberger?

It's also not clear that the Steelers offense was better with that version of Ben than they have been with his replacements. Brown, Bell, and the offensive line may have been covering up his flaws a bit. But also, as E5 pointed out, he already had a bad elbow when we faced them..

He wasn't healthy
What was his injury? UCL's can tear on a single throw. It's not always a sore forearm and reduced velocity leading to Tommy John. He certainly didn't have an obvious symptoms in preseason or appear on the injury report.

When he went down the next week, there was chatter on NFL Network that he had experienced symptoms of the bad elbow the week before. That's what I was basing it off of

Anyone planning to attend? Oldest and I will be in Section 149, but first time to this stadium. Anything fun to do there that doesn't involve getting into a melee?

I know the J-E-T-S suck, but it feels like this is a potential trap game. Jets just beat DAL, this will be another of their Super Bowls, and the Pats are somewhat banged up. It's going to be a close game in my opinion, and could even be a loss for the Pats.

Yes this game is worrisome. I definitely think the Jets cover.

Or the Pats could blow them out. Haha who knows. But I agree...feels like a bit of a trap game. Or at least a *hard* game, if not a "trap".

It's one of those games where I would be equally happy with a win, be it 3-0, 44-43, or 35-3.

Great job everyone of inventing ways to fear a game where the Patriots are -9.5.

Great trap intuitions!

This year they have won every game by 16 except the Bills which they won by 6 on the road, not quite covering the spread of 7. The other time they didn’t beat the spread? -20.5 against the Jets, a ridiculous line for any NFL game and won by 16.

Banged up or not, Vegas doesn’t lie.

Analyzing this game and thinking the Pats will win for a host of reasons is perfectly valid.

Citing Vegas is silly. Dallas was -7

Right, any given sunday. Not just being Pats homer, but please don’t compare them to a team coached by Jason Garrett.

My point is more that Vegas is playing the public and most of the public looks at Jets at 1-4 and sees a team that is shit. It is not the same team with Sam and CJ (if he plays, I haven’t heard yet). Jets were slamming Buff until Mosley got hurt and even with that only lost because they had a kicker that retired the next day.

The Pats should still win. The Pats will make the AFC Championship game unless something weird happens and probably win that.

I always thought a trap game needed two things:

1) A lightly-regarded opponent.
2) A big/tough game the week before (the letdown trap game) or a big/tough game or bye week the week after (the look-ahead trap game).

I don’t see the Pats talking a division game against a bitter rival lightly. And neither last week’s matchup nor next week’s qualifies as a big or tough game. The Pats could lose, of course, but it’ll be because the Jets outplay them, not because it’s a trap game.

1-4 roughly correlates to a pace that gets you to 4-12, what they did last year with Darnold playing in 13/16 games. As for CJ Mosley now being on the team, I never knew he had this much of a hand in a team’s success. I hope he can go for the Patriots game so Jets fans have fewer what-ifs.

538 thinks the Jets are a 7-9 team, fwiw.

I'll take that projection over anything that overweights results from Darnold-as-a-rookie Jets or Falk-as-starting-QB Jets.

I enjoy how the fans of other teams add the little confessional postscripts to prove they’re being serious. :kitty:

It's wholly misleading. The hed implies the entire tenure was a waste of time when Thomas states it was the second stint once he got cut and re-signed. Which is hard to argue from his POV.

I’d love to see Manish’s questions. SO DEMARYIUS WOULD YOU AGREE THAT THE PATRIOTS ARE INCORRIGIBLE SHITBAGS?

In all seriousness, I can’t blame DT. Manish is the Volin of NY, though he may be worse.

Demaryius has a legitimate gripe. He's probably still on this team were it not for the ill-fated AB signing and right now he'd be a top 3 option with Harry/Gordon/Dorsett out or nursing injuries. He's had 8/109 over the last 2 games, which suggests to me that he's not completely toast just yet.
