A capable play just gets them to 3-3 with two on and two out in the bottom of the 8th.
And again, after looking at it, even a "capable" play may not have helped them there.

Grisham was charging, glove to the side like he has been drilled thousands of times, to throw Stevenson out. Yelich likely would have played it the same and when your body isn't behind the ball and it takes a shitty hop, bad things happen.

Upon rewatching, the only thing an OF could do differently there is body up the ball but then you lose time to make the throw. Maybe that was the best play given that Stevenson is fairly fast and Grisham should have been concerned with preventing the go-ahead run at that point but players aren't coached to field balls like that with runners in scoring position. And like everything else in baseball, the action happened very quickly.

What an AB by Soto there too. He is 20 years old and will probably never have to buy a meal in D.C. again.

"Juan Soto's bases-clearer increased the Nats' odds of winning this round by .610. By series win probability added, that's the 3rd-biggest play in major league history. Only Hal Smith's 3-run homer in 1960 WS Game 7 and Francisco Cabrera's walkoff in the 1992 NLCS rank higher."

Twitter should have an age limit like alcohol and cigarettes.

Cancel culture at its peak toxicity ruining this thread.
Yeah, like I said. Hader was 17. How many people in this thread know actual 17 year old baseball players? Or were them? They are dirtheads and stupid and basic. They are base instincts with feet and little in the way of impulse control.

I am not excusing or condoning Hader's Tweets because they were horrible. But I am not about to "cancel" someone who *said* something stupid in their teens and have been both contrite about it as well as seemingly better behaved since.

I was there and broke my 0 for 3 slump watching postseason games at Nats Park. The whole team except Strasburg looked dead until the bottom of the 8th. Gotta love baseball.

At that age, the blame belongs with his family. Funny to read that article (posted above) about his family turning their jerseys inside out or changing into something else.

I almost feel bad for him.

I don't excuse him from blame and I don't know about his family situation.

However, what he posted to Twitter as a 17 year old back in 2012 doesn't render him a horrible human being to me. He isn't a Chapman or Osuna or Dyskstra or even an Antonio Brown. Hader was a stupid kid who said horrible things on a fairly new medium.

Since then, he has apologized - admittedly after he was outed - and appears to have matured into a better person.

If someone still wants to hate the guy, I won't try and convince them otherwise but I try not to give up on people that easily, especially when they are young, haven't really harmed anyone and have shown personal evolution.

God I'm tired of people yelling "LET'S GO" at the top of their voice's like it's the most amazing cheer ever

Also, any video with "React" in the title

Guess I need to post in the Things that Bother You thread
"AND THE NATIONALS WIN THE WORLD SERIES!!"

Oh wait......……

That was quite a post game reaction.

To a wild card game win.

Friends and family on the field?

I'm not up on their history, but is that the first playoff win ever for them?

What a gag job by the Brewers, that was little league level bad in right field.

They scored three runs on a HBP, a broken bat blooper, a walk and a two run error.

And on the blooper, if Cain is in better throwing position and goes to third, the runner is out, game over.

I guess outside of the Capitals, Washington has had nothing in the way of wins since the silent era, so go crazy folks.

Holy smokes.

It was a 1 run error. Bases loaded, 2 outs, the runner on 2nd scores easily without the error.

It was not the first playoff win for the Nats. It was, however, the first playoff "series" win, after 4 gag jobs in 2012, 14, 16, 17, losing series as the better seeded team each time.

By win, I meant series win.

What an achievement.

The only good thing to come from that is Felger is all torked off.

After some thought, I’m going to pull for the A’s tonight. They have a fun team, esp. on defense and they have a slightly better venue, at least for TV. Finally, one of my sons and his family are big A’s fans...go to several, if not many games each year, wearing all the gear. Oh well, the other one is a big Sox fan.

Just a friendly reminder, like last year, a better, saber and Statcast focused broadcast is on ESPN2. No ARod inanity. Take advantage one and all. :)

what is he like as a framer? his batting line is alright, is he good defensively? im not sure who to pull for in this game, gotta give both teams a lot of respect for what they manage to do with so little. the rays deserve to be in a great baseball town.

Arod saying "The trend continues" with leadoff HR annoys me.

It wasn't a trend since it was just one game yesterday.

NOW it's a trend.

The cradle of the game.
Huh. Rays (1st) played 62 more innings than the White Sox (last) during the regular season. That's like a full week of extra week of games. (Sox 2nd most)
