RA nailed Miller being out for the playoffs before anyone had a clue. Lousy that Grz is out tonight, he's great at exiting the defensive zone. Chara playing will be a big boost. I'd still dress 7 D and double shift Jojo & Pasta.
Miler would be a great player versus this Blues team too. Much better fit stylistically with their D than Clifton or Kampfer.

Oh well, Miller wasn’t very good when he actually played this year.

Yeah. I think they have to play 7 D if Chara plays because he could get worse. Still, having Kampfer dress will likely cause some juggling for Clifton. He was skating at LD with Kampfer in practice, so he would presumably be sliding back and forth. It’s also possible they only skate Chara on D-zone faceoffs and the PK, but tough to say.

I really have no idea how this will all play out tonight, but I expect it to be epic.

I'd double shift Coyle before Pasta, or at least work him into that rotation. Kuraly can also see more minutes due to his speed alone if I'm calling out the numbers.

Both Coyle & Kuraly have been great but they are centers and have more responsibilities on their normal lines.

Pastrnak, Heinen, JoJo and Coyle can ride rw for Krejci pretty easily. They only need to make up approx 10 min of David Backes ice time. If things get dicey, Nordstrom could take a shift and at least forecheck. They should be ok.

Hockey is such a great sport. Pity it’s saddled with such a shit league.

Man, we got one goal blown dead early. They scored twice on uncalled penalties. What shit.

I hope the narrative is enough to at least get Game 6 called evenly so we can get back home and take the series.

they've fallen into the trap of going for the perfect shot against a below average goalie. combined with the refs letting the Blues chip our health down and it's a bad formula.

hilarious and sad how blind NHL refs are though, really.

I'm so tired of complaining about the refs (me personally, everyone else is welcome). The Bruins need to find a way to win in spite if the officiating. They've done it all playoffs, need to buckle down and do it again.

No excuses.

They can be accountable for their mediocre performance and try to hold the officials accountable as well. It doesn't have to be one or the other.

The Blues had two scoring chances directly off of majorly missed calls that led to odd man rushes in the B's zone... it's not something that a team should have to 'overcome'.

Just got a text from my mom that the sports guys in Pittsburgh are livid over the missed calls. So you know they must have been pretty bad.

I feel that we're missing the fucking blatant missed too many men call not 20 seconds before the Blues' first goal as well.

I will start the game 6 thread. It will be vulgar. I will subsequently start a game 7 thread

Blues coach and announcers talking about how the bad calls have been going both ways and that the Blues have been on the wrong side of some bad calls this playoffs... were any of them as egregious as any (5 or 6 at least) of the no-calls tonite?

edit: and this idea that you have to 'play through it' is the reason why things will never change.. you allow the refs to be incompetent with no reason to improve when you say that.. The fact is is that no team should have to play through bad calls and especially egregious calls.. the standard of officiating has to be get better.

The hand pass in WCF Game 3 was bad. ‘Course, they used the last three games of the series to light up a couple Sharks, so yeah.

That ended a game.
I'm not trying to discount it.. just the narrative is out there that the Blues have been on the short end of a lot of non-calls or bad calls.. and from where I sit the last two series have been heavily weighted to them getting away with a ton more.. and I haven't seen a team consistently head hunt like this pretty much ever.

What's going to change between now and Sunday? Find a way to win and deal with it after the finals.

Teams have to find a way to win it's true...but with the scarcity of goals in hockey games it's a bit tedious to say one has to play through obvious penalties or no-calls. In games like soccer and hockey the officiating needs to go up a notch in the playoffs not down because a goal is such a huge change. And as far as anything changing between now and Sunday..who are the officials for Sunday? Will they be better? And it's also not really about this series anyway..it's more about the idea that a team HAS to play through one sided officiating...as if nothing could possibly change.

I'm usually the last guy to do this. Honestly.

But...holy shit did this game have a Donaghy feel to it. I dont know if the Bruins deserved to win, but the multiple headshots, missed calls, continuous game changing ignored calls...its hard to feel this was a fair game. Especially after watching the bogus Marchand penalty.

This game really disenfranchised me from the NHL tonight...

Do you mean for Sunday or do you mean in general? I'm not sure what the options are for this series..but it would seem that at least that one ref shouldn't be involved in game 6 or 7..perhaps that's not possible given unions and such, and it's probably just me as a b's fan..but as Kenny Powers said..this game stunk.

Well, Cassidy blasted the crap out of the officials. It feels rare in this Belichick-influenced era to have a coach go off like that.

“Those are the hits they want to get out of the game, correct? That’s what I hear a lot about. Clearly, they missed a couple tonight. It’s a fast game. I sat here two days ago or whatever it was and said I believe these officials are at this level because they’ve earned the right to be here. You should be getting the best. But, I mean, the narrative changed after Game 3. There’s a complaint or whatever put forth by the opposition. It just seems to have changed everything.

The no-call on Acciari … their player is on his way to the box. It’s right in front of the official. It’s a slew foot. Our guy’s gone. The spotter took him out of the game for a possible concussion. I mean, it’s blatant. It had a big effect on the game. This has happened. I’m a fan of the game. It’s the National Hockey League’s getting a black-eye with their officiating in these playoffs, and there’s another one that’s going to be talked about. I thought it was a great hockey game. That call, probably … there’s time, but it really made it difficult for us to get the win tonight. So I’m disappointed. So I guess to answer your original question, it was egregious. But we’re moving on. We’re getting ready for Game 6.”
I think he'll find himself short a few dollars.

Who cares...glad he did that after the officials took the bait from Berube after game 3. The way the officiating being called the Blues will probably win the cup in overtime when a player hand passes it past Rask for god's sake. That is how pathetic they have been.

It’s rare to see a coach in any sport respond the way that Cassidy did, especially when they know they will have to pay to do it. Whether it is ultimately good or bad (I don’t know), I appreciate his willingness to be forthright in spite of the fine.

The Blues have been little shits all series, and it is brood to see them rewarded for that.

Media coverage is also uniformly in Cassidy's corner, even to the extent that articles all mention Berube working the refs and this being a direct result of that. Might bode will for the Bruins for games 6 and 7.

I’m glad he did it but I doubt it has any impact. If anything I bet it goes the other way. The league won’t want to be seen as being influenced by a coach’s comments for the 2nd time in the series.

I wouldn’t count on it. Especially with Rooney coming back for game 6. The league already decided how this series is going to be called, the Bruins have to try to find a way to overcome it.

Cassidy's remarks were necessary, but are hardly sufficient. The officials are going to call the game in a manner that favors the Blues style of play; the Bruins will have to find a way to adapt.

To my eye, — and I wasn’t following the game thread so I’m sure they all were discussed, — there were five notable calls or non-calls:
1. The check on Johansson that was a shoulder to the head. Very similar to calls that were made against the Bruins in Games 3 & 4. NON-CALL
2. The check on Krug that was a shoulder to the head. Very similar to calls that were made against the Bruins in Games 3 & 4. NON-CALL
3. The trip of Acciari. NON-CALL
4. The holding of Krug. NON-CALL
5. The slashing call made against Marchand that seemed to me a worthy call, EXCEPT that it seemed pretty similar to the slash made against Rask’s chest in G4 (by Steen?) which was a non-call.
Those were the 5 that I found egregious. And all went the Blues way.

I wanted to sleep on it before commenting on last night's game.

I am seriously considering giving up on the league. That level of officiating incompetence, in the championship series no less, absolutely ruins the experience of being a fan for me. I have no confidence that the league will officiate the games in a way where the result will be fair. To allow the Blues to score the winner on a penalty so egregious, so crucial, with such negative consequences, with no call and no accountability, is the sign of a mickey mouse unprofessional league.

Cassidy tore the refs apart after the game as he should have. But the league allowed itself to be influenced by CRAIG FUCKING BERUBE, of all people, one of the most goonish useless players ever to suit up in the league. Berube complained about the refs, and instead of laughing at him and telling him to sleep it off, the league said "Hey cool, go crazy, we don't mind."

This is absolute bullshit. Maybe the Bruins wouldn't have won anyway, lord knows they can't get out of their own way offensively. But the refs took away any chance the Bruins had at winning. That's unacceptable.

Curious to see if either of the headshots get DoPS attention. My guess is no because that’s an admission the on-ice officials blew those calls and they’re under enough heat as is. They’ll probably just sweep them under the rug with nary a peep. On both hits it sure looked like the head was the “principle point of contact” as they like to say. I guess on the Krug one they can say Krug was lunging and hunched over...but Anderson was lunging and hunched over when McAvoy got him in the CBJ series.

Just a total clusterfuck all around.

Like not getting elbowed in the head? Or slew-footed?

It's not about finding a way to adapt, it's about the most basic rules of the game being completely ignored. This isn't the way the game is played, it's not the way it's supposed to be officiated. It's the league allowing Craig Berube to dictate the shape of the game.

If that's the way the league wants to run things, I'm out as a consumer.

The Johansson one was the most egregious IMO. From the blindside/lateral with the head was principal point of contact. FF to 1:20 for the slo-mo.

Another point that shouldn't get lost is the ice was abso-fucking-lutely brutal once again. Complete slush after the first period.
