The first spring training game between Seattle-Oakland is tomorrow, so it's time to transition from the offseason thread, IMO.

And what perfect timing... Lowrie is hurt again.

Jed Lowrie says he will likely have an MRI tomorrow. Knee discomfort began in recent days as he was ramping up baseball activity.

Heard on 99.3 Ft. Myers radio that (1st opinion) is that it's torn and it's a no earlier than 2020 return after TJS.

Martin Maldonado is still a FA, Heyman said KC was talking to him already.

Oh man, that's terrible news on Perez. Such a fun player to watch, hope he can be reasonably close to full strength again next year.

Not news, but Vlad Guerrero Jr looks like a sumo wrestler.nNo way that body holds up as he ages, never mind 162 games. He’s listed at 250 and he’s only 19. He’ll be a DH by 25.

Yeah, I heard the 'Panda' comparison made today. He wasn't a very good defender already, maybe they'll move him to 1B.

Yeah, the Blue Jays need to have him live with a personal trainer or something, because keeping that body under control is going to be really hard. Miggy managed to maintain his agility for a few years before the Venezuelan home cooking brought him down, but Vladdy Jr. looks like an even tougher case. Sending him down to AAA and a likely shitty diet is not going to be the way to get that regime in place.

Somehow, this feels appropriate:
Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Joe Kelly is the early leader for 2019's weirdest MLB injury. Kelly, who joined the Dodgers on a three-year contract worth $25 million in December, was cooking Cajun food. ... Kelly is dealing with back tightness due to standing too long, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times on Friday. Shaikin also noted Kelly was expected to throw a Friday bullpen session and return to game action "soon."

Maybe he should ought to try a vegetarian diet for a while. Worked wonders for Prince Fielder.

Since Semper wrote a few posts up that there was no way Vlad’s body would hold up over the long haul with his poor conditioning, I think he’s saying it’s no surprise he strained an oblique.
Ah. I thought it was a comment on Toronto faking the injury for service time.

BP has 19 year old LAA CF Jo Adell as their #2 prospect in all of MLB, behind only Vlad Jr, ahead of Tatis and Jimenez and Robles and everyone else.

So him going down today is big news, it sounds like it could have been worse but he left on a cart and came back on crutches.

Jo Adell underwent imaging today on his right ankle and left hamstring. Results confirm grade 2+ right ankle sprain and grade 1+ left hamstring strain. A general timeline for return to play is 10-12 weeks.

If it's true they're bringing him in to play center instead of right, I wouldn't bet on him being any better. It would also be a likely factor in why he couldn't get a better deal earlier in the off-season.

Wow, that is gorgeous symmetry, 3 HRs, 3 SS errors, 3 Ks. Like a baseball haiku...

Yeah, heh, another case where the front office knows way more than I do. He was really impressive in 2016 and the first 2/3 of 2017, but he hasn't been the same since late that season.

Pitchers are such a crapshoot in general, I'm glad my actual job doesn't involve trying to evaluate and predict them.

No one seems to know what happened yet, but AJ Hinch just went ballistic on Angel Hernandez and got tossed one pitch into today's game.

http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/26276898/hinch-tossed-says-ump-known-overreaction

Hinch said about a week ago Hernandez told him that he gets about four ball-strike calls wrong per game.

After a few of those calls didn't go Houston's way in the top of the first inning, Hinch said he calmly made a suggestion to Hernandez as the Astros prepared to bat.

"We have technology to help you get better and that these pitches are strikes," Hinch said he told Hernandez. "He had kind of an arrogant attitude about it and didn't want to hear it."

When Hernandez called the first pitch to Astros leadoff hitter George Springer a strike, Hinch said he thought Hernandez probably made the call out of spite.

From the dugout, Hinch said he yelled to Hernandez that he'd used up his allotment of missed calls, prompting the ejection.

Hinch emerged from the dugout and began a lengthy and at times heated conversation with Hernandez at home plate.
