Somewhere
Its undeniable that Brown has been a difficult personality and its understandable if an organization wants nothing to do with him. At the risk of "victim blaming" here (which is a stretch for any NFL team and especially the Raiders), they knew the risks before this summer. However let's put everything in perspective - while Brown may well have had undisclosed issues in Pittsburgh in addition to what we already know "AB Livestream!" as well as the foot and helmet stuff, his transgressions pale in comparison quite a few of his NFL peers.
It’s not victim blaming, it’s caveat emptor. But aside from that, Brown’s behavior is not normal. The promo video gives me Corey Haim vibes.

They are entitled like everyone else to run the team as they see fit, but it’s past time for the Chucky mythology to end. I get up at 2:00 am, we’re all about football and nothing else, we won’t tolerate the bullshit. They are tolerating the bullshit. This extends well beyond Jimmy Johnson having special rules for Michael Irvin.

Asking to be released on instagram now...

ab
Verified

And that’s fine ! I have worked my whole life to prove that the system is blind to see talent like mines. Now that everyone sees it, they want me to conform to that same system that has failed me all those years. “I’m not mad at anyone. I’m just asking for the freedom to prove them all wrong.” Release me @raiders #NOMore#theyputblindersonahorseforareason#NoMoreFake

Reportedly, he was fined over the Mayock altercation and is not happy about it.

He’s taking this beyond TO, so Rosenhaus really will be earning his money.

We’re left with what appears to be a very unhappy, hyper-stressed person. And it’s perfectly fine to conclude that you wouldn’t want such a person on your team.

So he is playing, but they dropped a nuclear weapon.

AB > NE chatter in 3,2,1.

Redskins 1 is probably in the air at this moment.

If he plays Monday, his $14m or whatever for this season becomes guaranteed, correct?

Just basically voids the second year?

There has been a lot of apparent confusion about this. There is a good argument the guaranteed money for this year kicked in when he secured a roster spot. Which is why I thought the Raiders would have a terrible time getting rid of him without an awful cap hit.

This dude is spiraling. It is not going to end well for him. He needs professional help.

How does his spiraling out of control align with the hit Burfict laid on him in that playoff game?

I never got the diva WR impression of him early in his career.

It could also just be the increased coverage he received as his star grew.

AB doesn't need help. He's a selfish prick. He gets no pity.

Does Gruden get fired if they go 3-13 this year or is that 10 year/$100M too much for them to do anything?

So is there no way out? Not a Raiders fan; not an AB fan; but just seems like the situation has gained a momentum of its own, and both sides are powerless to stop it from ending in disaster.

Sounds like the Raiders want it both ways. Not suspending him. Want him on the field but taking away the money.

But Brown has made this bed.

Maybe I'm in the minority but why WOULDN'T he demand his release? They're essentially voiding all his money and clearly the relationship is toxic so demanding his release makes the most sense for him....

It doesn't. He was always a diva but turned into a vastly bigger version of this when he got paid.
AB is the poster child for players that get the money then don't fucking care.

Then, you know, lose the money.

Good chance he just cost himself Canton. Moved his family to California, picked a fight (over horseshit) and pissed away 30 million and his career.

Well, I guess I'm reassured about Mayock's status. Seems like Gruden is playing good cop and Mayock the bad one, but both of them working together from the same script.

Well put here — the player walked right into the team’s nuclear option.

Very sophisticated operation apparently at work here. Tip of cap.

This does not diminish one iota the human tragedy on display here.

The fact that all of this drama started with cryotherapy, which has no scientific basis and is likely to be, at best, nothing but an expensive placebo effect, is fitting.

The most disturbing part of all this will be the inevitable racially-charged commentary from some quarters.

Given the context I actually think this is less spiraling, though it’s still strange and a bit scary for AB’s personality. Instead of having seemingly random ups and downs on this, we have the following timeline:

- Angry about feet/helmet skips practice.
- finds a solution and comes back.
- GM fines him for missing practice, gets mad posts about it on Instagram.
- GM and player confront each other about the Instagram post, player has an outburst and excessive reaction to the confrontation.
- team threatens to suspend player for the confrontation, instead it gets resolved in house and player apologizes and seems to be back on track.
- GM fines player for confrontation instead of suspending, takes away guaranteed $30mm.
- player then gets upset and demands release.

Seems a bit more logical now, albeit the beginning was still totally bizarre. Just immature behavior instead of spiraling IMO

You missed the middle part, where at the same time he's apologizing he's got someone editing together a video of B-roll and possibly secretly (and illegally) recorded calls with his agent and coach.

Brown's situation has not been logical at all from his side, he's lost the plot, and he's reacted to fairly standard issue team responses by flipping out.

As to his release.... he's never getting one, there is no incentive for the Raiders, he either shows up and plays or he sits home and they throw him on the left squad list.

A trade seems unlikely until the offseason. My guess is this goes one of two ways... he either returns and plays for the Raiders, or he sits out a full year without getting paid

It seems AB (understandably) thinks of himself as a self-made man. Lightly recruited at the college level, 6th round pick, and made himself into a superstar. The problem is, he thinks that means that NO ONE can criticize him or tell him what to do. Coaches and Organizations are all part of The Establishment that didn’t recognize his talent. He has no respect for them. Tell him he can’t wear a particular helmet he loves? Fuck you, he knows what he needs to succeed. Tell him he needs to show up for practice or meetings? Fuck you, you’re just like all the other coaches he proved wrong.

I don’t see how any team could pick him up if the Raiders release him, unless they’re just going to let him do exactly what he wants. There’s no reining him in or “reaching” him. He has an absolute certainty that he and he alone knows best.
