Raiders wide receiver Antonio Brown has his helmet and is set to play on Monday night, but he’s not happy with everything that happened in training camp. Specifically, Brown posted an Instagr…profootballtalk.nbcsports.com
Let’s be smarter than Bill Simmons here*. The Raiders has 4 QBs on the roster for less than 19 hours. They put Peterman on IR, basically as a stash. Mayock apparently loved Kizer when scouting him out of college, so I can see spending the roster spot on a 3rd QB. I am generally anti 3rd QB, but if the spot is for a young guy with upside, I can see it.4 QBs on the 53-man roster including Kizer, who they signed today.
This is an interesting reaction to me. Several prominent observers, including Mike Lombardi as well as Charles Robinson and Terrez Paylor from Yahoo have talked about how Hard Knocks shows that Carr isn’t Alpha enough to be a star QB in the League. The interaction with Marcel Ateman where the $25M QB basically negotiated with a practice squad wideout to run better routes was what Paylor & Robinson pointed to specifically..
Derek Carr, who, again, I understand, is maybe just trying to compensate for the crying jag last year, but my impression of him - and obviously who gives a shit about “impressions,” let alone mine - remains a negative one. He just seems cocky and dick-ish, esp for a guy who isn’t necessarily a lock to be their QB two years from now. I liked him a couple years ago, and I suppose I mostly wish him the best anytime he’s not playing YOUR REIGNING SUPER BOWL CHAMPS, but his towel-snapping alpha routine reads super douchey and a bit over the Top.
You can't make this shit up. Why did Mayock trade for this clown? He's not going to back down from a clown like AB so good for him.
You don’t mess with BC guys...This is such an indictment on Mike Tomlin and the Steelers. He didn't just start doing this stuff when he got to Oakland. Tomlin and the entire organization enabled him and let him get away with whatever he wanted until the end. Now, Mayock is not putting up with it.
Somehow Breer doesn't understand that. This is such an indictment on Mike Tomlin and the Steelers. He didn't just start doing this stuff when he got to Oakland. Tomlin and the entire organization enabled him and let him get away with whatever he wanted until the end. Now, Mayock is not putting up with it.
At the same time, maybe they tried to get him to be a better teammate and it wasn't happening, hence the trade. Hard to change a tigers stripes...This is such an indictment on Mike Tomlin and the Steelers. He didn't just start doing this stuff when he got to Oakland. Tomlin and the entire organization enabled him and let him get away with whatever he wanted until the end. Now, Mayock is not putting up with it.
That's where I am, too. I kind of agree with Breer (gross) in that the job of the head coach is to get his players on the field. I can definitely see the counterargument, though. And I should add that this is Mayock -- once again, Gruden is making sure that someone else can be blamed for what's happening on the field. It's never, ever his fault.part of me is like, you knew you were getting a diva WR. isn't putting up with his shit in exchange for the massive talent part of the deal? now the Raiders are actively choosing to hinder their talent on the field.
It's not just on Tomlin. It's the whole organization in Pittsburgh. They completely underperformed their talent level with Ben/Bell/AB.They knew what they were signing up for, so no sympathy here. But taking game checks from him is the best path forward at this point.
This could get ugly(ier).
Breer is too much, Antonio Brown basically skipped the finale last year and stood on the sidelines in a fur coat. And they TRADED him precisely because Tomlin couldn’t deal with him (and Roethlisberger winning the power struggle). That’s not an indictment on Tomlin because at a point (and Brown is well past it) you can’t sprinkle your coaching pixie dust to get a player to not be an unreasonable PITA, mind you. But the idea that Tomlin corralled Brown is frankly counterfactual.
That's kind of my take too (re: Tomlin). He's always been a known diva but - if memory serves - he didn't explode to a full-blown TO level pain in the ass until about a year ago. Now he's a flat-out cancer. It seemed to have happened overnight so there almost had to be some sort of catalyst.I tend to agree with Breer--Tomlin helped keep the wheels on despite having (at least) two massive a-holes on his hands in Ben and AB. If AB feels like he can do anything now it's because Tomlin finally gave up and let AB force his way out of town.
In other news, I can't believe I'm defending Breer and Tomlin...
