Sounds like what he said to another WR back in the day. Maybe the Patriots will sign him in like 8 years after he’s changed his name to Odell Trece.
yeah, I was looking for that clip of BB in the pregame chat telling Chad he'd be doubled all game by the Pats, but couldn't find it.

For whatever reason, the last time I looked at this I really didn't think it would be in play. I'm not one of the people that believes Belichick will hang it up when Brady decides to, so they can go out together. I think Belichick enjoys football far more than anything else in his life and will coach for as long as he feels he's at the top of his game.

Let's set a nice conservative number for the rest of the year at 9 wins, that gives him at 308 at the end of the season. He'd then need 40 to pass Shula. Over the last 10 years he's averaged 12.3 regular season wins and and 1.6 playoff wins per season or 13.9 total. In 3 years that would get him to 41.7. I don't see Brady around 3 seasons from now (or even 2 though I can see him playing next year), so it'll be a harder task for sure though we have seen success with Matt Cassel and Jimmy G/Jacoby. Part of me is salivating on the roster that Belichick could put together with a QB on the rookie wage scale.

This is a topic for another thread, but Josh McDaniels is 43. How long would he stick around?

I really hope Don Shula lives to see BB take this record from him.
Both records, because you know that he'll be hanging on to the regular season record crowing until Belichick pries it from his cold dead fingers. The total record will be gone by the halfway mark of the '22 season. It might take him until '24 to grab the other one.

I thought it was reported that LaCosse was placed on IR? Was that not correct?

If the Browns pull out the victory, it is reasonable to think the true stars for the Browns are going to be Chubb and Garrett.

On defense the "weakness" of the Patriots defense at this point would seem to be in the run game. The defense has done a great job of dictating to offenses and making them one dimensional. Establishing the run early and having good success with it may finally produce a game in which the defense is on their heels a bit. We saw last week what happens when this defense pins its ears back and can attack with confidence. In the matchup of strength vs. strength (WRs vs. Secondary), I take the Patriots Secondary every day. The fact that Mayfield is a bit of a gunslinger I think further pushes the advantage in the passing game the Patriots way.

On offense the clear weak link is at LT with Newhouse. You would think that the Patriots will be looking to provide help on every passing down, but McDaniels will have to use quite a bit of scheme as well to help out Newhouse. After the hits Garrett was dishing out to Jets quarterbacks earlier this season, let's hope the blocking is up to the task. Brady missing time is still the most certain way to derail what this team is capable of.

Burkhead is the running back version of Amendola. Just get him to the playoffs (and get a 1st round bye so it's even one fewer game he has to play in).

It's interesting that they are nursing both Izzo and LaCosse through this time. It argues that they see a role at least this year for both of them. When Harry is activated you would think 1 of the 4 tight ends would go, but if it isn't Izzo or LaCosse are they going to move on from Tomlinson or Watson?
They tried to cut Tomlinson earlier this week and they did cut Watson a couple weeks ago, so it seems like the hierarchy is pretty established. Izzo's in concussion protocol so he's week-to-week. LaCosse I have no idea, but he's been hurt three different times this year so far.

Yeah it does seem Tomlinson is most likely to go. And I don't know that I can offer much in terms of analysis, but the guy seems the most likely fullback on the team. Does that count for something? I wouldn't be too shocked, particularly if Tomlinson showed something on that front, for Watson to be the odd man out.

LaCosse is an odd case. Either they feel LaCosse has the potential to be their most productive TE so they continue to nurse and keep him on the roster or they are just holding his spot for Harry and he’s heading to IR next week.

Not sure if, because their cap space was so tight after Sanu trade before Bennett move, that IRing LaCosse this week to bring another player/salary was even an option.

FWIW they do have an open roster spot currently after the Bennett trade. I do think you're right that they like LaCosse. He also got a two-year deal, so they may feel that even if LaCosse / Watson is close, they'd rather roll with the guy with more of a future (ditto Izzo / Tomlinson).

[Edit: Responding to nazz] That may be the answer. He plays a position of need and using his roster spot for a player not already on the payroll -- so, other than Harry, Wynn or Develin -- costs a few hundred thousand that they didn't have.

And, also, we learned a lot (well, I did at least) about using IR for players with injuries that are not season ending. If they IR him, and his injury is a minor one, then they have to waive him as soon as he's healthy. I think this rule gets abused with players with two or three week injuries sometimes getting put on the IR, but maybe the Patriots want him next year and are being scrupulous about the rule.

The rules regarding IR are a bit vague as they have been reported, but my understanding is as follows:

An injury does not have to be season ending for a player to land on IR. I saw somewhere that the guideline is that if the player is expected to be inactive for 6 or more weeks, he can be placed on IR, even if a team has used its two "return from IR" slots. This rule certainly gets relaxed a bit late in the season, where any injury longer than 2 or 3 games is going to be season ending anyway. I don't know how tightly enforced this rule is, or of any cases of a player filing a grievance claiming they were incorrect placed on IR, but I didn't dig too hard either.

The "injured reserve/minor injury" is a separate designation that basically allows the team to release an injured player once they are healthy. I had not heard of it until Josh Gordon, but it has been around for at least a few years. As the player is getting released anyway, it's probably been used mostly for players that were on the fringes of the 53-man roster, so its use may not be all that common.

Teams can also reach a settlement with a player on "regular" IR and release them, which makes them a free agent. Such players do not have to be healthy when released as a result of a settlement.

The Pats probably figure it doesn't hurt to carry LaCosse as inactive this week, as things can change during the course of a game. Even if he's going to be out a few weeks, it may still make sense to carry him unless and until they absolutely need the roster spot.

I thought he enjoyed motor boating as well

We appreciate your pity. It happens a lot, we are the extreme northern edge of Raiders territory, to the networks.

Just a quick PSA for any Europeans reading this: the US is still on daylight savings time, so the games start an hour earlier in Europe this week. If you're in the UK the Patriots are on at 8:25 PM and at 9:25 PM in central Europe.
