There’s a five person playoff for the European Masters on the golf channel right now. Rory is in it.

Anyone else watch the final round of the Korn Ferry tournament today? Insane pressure on a great layout (Victoria Nation in Indiana) to see who would get the final 25 available PGA cards for the year. Awesome stuff

There is a bunch of talk about it in the Rob Oppenheim thread, mainly about Rob but a some on the tournament in general.

Kevin Chappell has tied a tour record with 9 consecutive birdies and is -9 through 10 at The Greenbrier this afternoon.

And Europe pulls it off. Great stuff

By the way, what a difference from say the 80s or 90s on the LPGA tour now. Just a ton of athletic, and attractive young women on both teams

Tony Romo shot a -2 70 today at the Safeway. 5 birdies, 3 bogeys. T20 with the afternoon wave just getting started.

Making the cut would be extremely impressive. The field isn’t strong but there are some big names there too. He’s been a bit of a sideshow but it’s extremely hard to make the weekend in a tour event, and kind of unbelievable for an amateur who obviously had a ton of time eaten by another professional sport in his 20s and early 30s.

Romo beat the #6 player in the world, Justin Thomas, by a shot yesterday. That in and of itself is impressive to me.

Cut is probably going to be -1, so he needs 73 or better this afternoon to play the weekend. I’m rooting for him, I think it would be a very impressive achievement. In his 3 previous tour starts he didn’t come close to sniffing a made cut.

Mickelson too by a few shots. He’s declining hard but still won this year. Romo can play. Given his NFL career and how much he must still need to travel/prepare for broadcasting I’m shocked and impressed he’s gotten his game to where it is.

The Tiger, Rory, Day and Hideki skins game in Japan is tonight at midnight in the Golf Channel. I’ve got the DVR set, hoping for a better product than The Match.

I only caught part of this so far on DVR, but it was way more entertaining than I expected. Miles better than The Match. They were mic'ed up and had some legit chirping going on (except Hideki) and they threw in enough gimmicks to make it fun. I enjoyed it, felt like a souped up version of a weekend skins game, even down to the quality of the golf.

FYI the actual tournament starts tonight at 10pm ET.

Tiger bogeyed his first 3 holes then birdied 9 of the last 15 to shoot a -6 64. Tied for the lead with Gary Woodland.

They also didn’t allow spectators on the course. I watched for a few minutes before falling asleep and It was weird watching Tiger (and really everyone) will virtually no gallery. Just media and the course members were allowed out there.

Tiger shot another 64 to grab a 2 shot lead over Gary Woodland. He looks dialed in with the irons. The biggest question is how his body will hold up today when he’ll have to play 27ish holes.

CBS is the weakest broadcast, and they just got worse. I hope Kostis lands with NBC or somewhere where he can continue on. I think he is excellent. Maltbie, Bones and Kostis are they best on-course guys IMO. I was never a huge McCord fan but he’s a loss. More Dottie is never a good thing.

Anyways. Tiger is 7-holes away from #82. He has a 3-shot lead on Hideki, re-start is at 6:30pm tonight, I believe.

Tiger looking a little shaky at the start of the restart but Matsuyama let him off the hook big time, missing a 6 ft birdie putt on the long par 5.

Tiger has a 2 shot lead with 5 to play.

I *guess* this gives CBS a chance to start again? I've grown to appreciate Kostis on the course - having disliked him at first - but he was badly miscast when repositioned into a tower, while McCord really needs another foil (a Feherty or a Ben Wright) for his smarmy charm to play well. I don't really see enough in Nantz/Faldo, Baker-Finch and Pepper to build around; they need a big rethink for this to work.

Tuukka's refugee camp
Par for Tiger and birdie for Hideki on 16, so 2 holes left with a 2 stroke lead. Hideki’s birdied 18 two rounds so far (as has Tiger), so could be tight.

Or shot tracer. Amazing it took this long for it to be widely adopted on most shots for decent tournaments.

2 strokes up heading into 18.

I think Tigers swing looks better this weekend than any time last season. His iron swing looks crisp and he’s making great compact but powerful turns with the woods off the tee. Nice to see.

It looks much more fluid and comfortable too. He seems in total control of it and not fighting it at all.

He'll win again this season.

Rory won the WGC in China last night.

In other news, Mickelson will drop out of the top 50 in the OWGR this week for the first time since 1993.
