If you like goofy and unique swings, we’ve got this kid coming. Matt Wolff, plays at Oklahoma State. #1 college golfer, has won like 4 or 5 times this season and helped OSU to the title last year. Played the Waste Management this year, finishing T50.

He’s a really cool story. Supposedly refused to work with any instructors because they all tried to change his swing until he got to George Gankas who told him not to dare change it and just made minor tweaks to increase consistency.

He’s on a hell of a college run right now too.

Like you knew who GG was until a couple weeks ago ;)

On another note, after that hole in one at Sawgrass for Ryan Moore, he now has a hole in one in competition at Augusta, Riviera, Bay Hills, Innisbrook and Sawgrass. Quite a resume of hole in ones.

Actually I did. He was on an episode of No Laying Up last year and was pretty interesting. Prompted me to look him up and watch some videos of him.

I'm getting no video on mine. Likely a browser/computer issue or just operator error.

Can’t put my finger on it, but I’m not a Paul Casey fan. Hoping Oosthuizen, Kokrak or DJ come out of this.

Drama! Casey 3-putt bogey on 17 to drop into a tie with Kokrak. Kokrak is scrambling on 18 for par and Casey just drive it into the bunkers on 18. Oosty is in at -7.

Edit: Kokrak can’t get up and down and Casey has 2 putts from 25ish feet for the win.

Sons’ schoolmate Denny McCarthy. T 41 at Players, T 9 at Valspar. Qualified via web.com. $230,000 for a couple weeks work. Nice to see good things happen to good people, all 5’9” 160 of him.

Casey is playing well this year. A win, a couple other top 3 finishes, and a bunch in the top 25. It’s always worth keeping an eye on hot veteran players—sometimes they have that one big year in them because they just kind of put it all together at the same time.

T-9 at Valspar is a great result. He has a bright future ahead of him.

Must be fun for you and your son to follow him as he emerges.

It is. Honestly, though he made headlines locally a few years ago, my sons had to tell me he is playing Tour events.

The Players was a blast. Followed him on the course Sunday. Master grinder.

Spent Saturday between 17 and 18, watching amazing golf and marshals who resemble Wilfred Brimley try to keep drunk, tattooed 20-something guys in line. When Ian Poulter hit 18, the marshals approached the guys and said — “let’s just try to get through this. When you walk out of here, you can say whatever the hell you want.”

Match play week. They are doing the groups now.

Day, Mickelson, Stenson, Furyk is probably the hardest one drawn so far. A “group of death” of you will. Which is what will happen to everyone watching Day and Furyk play at a snails pace in their match. But we do get a Stenson/Phil rematch which has potential.

Tiger gets Cantlay, Sneds and Aaron Wise.

I managed to keep all my guys in different groups, thankfully.

Finau, Poulter, Kiz, Mitchell is a sneaky tough group based on how they are playing right now.

Too bad there's no way for Kiz to finish T-20something this week. He's on a hell of a run.

McCarthy is grouped with Romo this week in the alternate event down in Punta Cana. He should get some air time on the GC coverage on Thursday and Friday. I think they usually have it in the morning.

Anyways, Wednesday golf!

Not too many surprises today.

Tiger beat Aaron Wise 3&1. Neither played particularly well, but Wise had a jittery “holy shit I’m playing Tiger” start.

Furyk’s rise from the dead continues as he came back from a 3-hole deficit to beat Jason Day 2-up.

JT got smoked by Bjerregaard. The biggest upset of the day.

Lee Westwood is hanging tough with Xander. I know Westy’s had a nice run overseas recently but was surprised he had risen high enough to qualify for this event.

Tiger just had an insane up and down. His 2nd shot ended up under a bush. He couldn’t get to it right handed so had to kneel, turn the club over and hit it lefty. Was up against the grandstand too. Got it to 5 feet.

I think this is a fun course. Lots of risk/reward which is good for match play.

Tiger loses to Sneds 2&1, will need a win against Cantlay plus an Sneds tie* or loss to Wise to advance.

Furyk beat Phil to set up a Furyk-Stenson winner take all. Day and Phil get to play a useless match. Would love to know the coin they lay on that, although Day is a WD risk.

* Apparentley the governing bodies in their highly successful rule changes for 2019 also changed “all square” and “halved” to “tie.” Huge relief here, glad they spent their time on what really matters.

It's crazy how much slower the new rules have made it for the pros because they call an official over for every single drop now, since they're not confident to take relief on their own anymore.

just drained a long one....its essentially over....has won 5 of the last 6 holes to go from Down 2 to Up 3 with 4 to play.....and Wise is close to closing out Sneds, which means we will have a Tiger weekend

Cantlay started leaking oil some the last couple of holes, but it wasn't like he collapsed. Tiger just went nuclear. Goodness.

Rory makes 10 footer for par on #2 to keep match tied. he looks so much more confident on the greens now than in the past, and he was never a bad putter
