Agreed and Phil said exactly that after the win. It'll be a completely different course come June.

But that won't stop the hype train, that's for sure.

Not sure if anyone has been following the Kuchar-stiffs-local caddie story, but there’s some more details out today.

The gist is Kuchar used a local caddie at the Mayakoba Golf Classic this past fall. Kuchar ended up winning, collecting a $1.3 million paycheck. He paid the caddie $5,000. The caddie was not happy, expecting more. Apparently the caddie was under the impression that Kuchar would pay him $3,000 for the week plus some undisclosed percentage of Kuchar’s winnings.

Most people seem to be in agreement that $3K is a fair rate for a tour pro to pay a local caddie for a week of work. The bonus seems a little shitty to me.

A little? Kuchar would have given his own caddy 10%. At the minimum he should have given this guy 50k. Make a difference in someone's life that has no impact on yours.

The 10% covers all the weeks of no $, expenses, travel time away from family, acting like an amateur psychologist, etc. This guy just showed up for 4 days and likely just carried the bag. Comparing his fee to the 10% the full time caddie would get is incorrect, especially since Kuchar seemingly would be paying him $3k if he missed the cut too.

That said, he should have just kicked him some extra $ for PR purposes. Far be it from me to tell anyone how to spend their money, but if he had given him anything over $10k I bet it's a non-story.

I don't think caddies just work for the percentages of winnings, but I could be wrong. I thought they had a (minimal) base salary plus whatever they get.

Come on, its weak either way...and as someone who hates Kuchar's aw shucks routine I am loving this.

Obviously, $3K for four days of relatively light work is nothing scoff at. But a $2K tip after winning 1.3M is heinous. Apparently, Kuchar then offered another $15K, which the caddie turned down. Still, that's like a 1% tip when it's all said and done. Kuchar deserves any and all negative attention.

Weather is apparently dicey for tomorrow’s opening round at Riviera.

Anyways, Tiger says he is going to Mexico next week. Probably means the Honda is on the chopping block.

The next 9 weeks:

Genesis
WGC
Honda
API
Players
Valspar
Match Play
Valero
Masters

He usually plays Honda and API, but there’s no way he plays 5 weeks in a row. Honda makes the most sense as it is right in the middle. Valspar probably gets booted too after the 1 trip last year, which is a bummer. Match play would then seemingly fit in as the final live tune up before Augusta. Or he just shuts it down after the Players.

Tiger will play API. He played Valspar last year and nearly won it. I'd be surprised if he skipped both. I bet he skips Honda.

On mobile, but Twitter is killing Kuchar for his follow-on comments. Rightfully so, he seems woefully tone deaf and is causing easily avoidable harm to his reputation.
Here’s the story. “For a guy who makes $200 a day, $5,000 is a pretty good week.”

Oof.

Kuchar’s version is that they agreed on $1,000 for a missed cut, $2,000 for a made cut, $3,000 top 20 and $4,000 top 10. This makes Kuchar look even worse, the winning tip was a whopping $1,000.

Not for a while. The tour says their next update will be 1:00 pm pst.

Whenever they do resume, it’ll be a full reset.

Some good stuff out of the super group. JT is -5 through 11 and Tiger has ripped off 4 birdies in a row after starting +2 through 7.

Phil just being Phil out there at 18, having to play a wedge over the stands, and landing about 10 feet from Spieth, who sure looked like he was paying no attention and wasn't watching for a shot coming after him. Then missed the par putt

I remember Steve Williams saying Tiger would get up four hours before his round no matter the start time and then when he went to Adam Scott, he adopted it as well.

I find it interesting. I wonder what the process is.

Cold, windy and rainy for the final round. Let’s see if anyone can put together a run at JT.

Edit: Also, Spieth just badly shanked one.

Holmes hit a shot from a fairway bunker that got embedded in the side of the bunker just outside the lip. Can’t say I’ve seen that before.

We need to keep a camera on Spieth. He’s got a 12 footer for triple on 10.

Missed it. Add a snowman to his card.
