That camera angle on Pepperell’s putt was amazing. What a story that’d be.

Need a 5 man playoff with 3 hole aggregate. That’d be amazing.

I'm impressed by Rahm's ability to yell at the ball and swear in English.

Edit: and the ball seems to listen.

Attended yesterday and today. Great experience and well worth the effort and expense. Well run tournament.

Did leave early today after following one group around the course. TV does add value. Would never have been privy to the back-and-forth between Rahm and his caddy if on the course.

Worlds End
They just said Rahm tried to hit 8 iron out of that fairway bunker on 11. A 220 yard mega hook over water. Such a monumentally bad decision.

It was really dumb, but I believe it was 220 to the hole, and I don’t think that was his target. The pin was back right and he eschewed his caddy’s advice to layup in the right side of the fairway because he didn’t like the angle in. So he tried to hit a big ass hook around the trees and over the water into the left fairway which would’ve given him a better angle to attack that pin. So I kinda get what he was *trying* to do. The problem was everything was going against him being able to pull that shot off. He had enough holes left that he didn’t need to try the hero shot.

Rory’s shot was ballsy. Or a fuck up. Why risk coming g that close??
I can't imagine he wanted the ball that far left.
It worked out though.
Yeah, there is no way he didn't overdraw it a bit. He'll ballsy, but he's not stupid.
Rory was on the Golf Channel set after the round and talked through his highlights. He said he started the iron on the line he wanted, but it definitely drew more than he intended and the wind hit it a little more than he expected. That said, that's why he aimed at the right edge of the green, to give him the buffer in case that happened. He did admit halfway to the hole he started telling it to get down and was a bit nervous.

A couple other cool things from the interview:
  • He said his fairway bunker approach shot on 15 was definitely the best shot he hit all weekend and maybe his best shot of the year.
  • He was 178 out of the rough into the 16th green and hit a held off 9 iron. He also had about 138 to the pin on 17...and hit a held off 9 iron. Crazy how much the wind, lie, and their swing affects them that he's using the same club on a 40 yard difference in shots.
  • He said 18 is infinitely harder than 17, especially the tee shot.
  • Saturday night at the range he was just getting onto his front side too quickly in transition and was working on being patient in his transition and letting the club drop into position before getting into his swing. Interesting stuff.

I listened to the most recent "No Laying Up" podcast while playing a solo round this morning, and one of the callers sheepishly asked this question: "Um...is Jim Furyk cool?" The general consensus of the NLU guys was that yeah, he is - he's a good guy, he plays golf his own way, and he generally gives thoughtful/interesting answers to interview questions, in contrast to the average Tour clone.

So why do some of you guys hate him so much? (I was certainly rooting for him on Sunday, not against him, although I was pleased for Rory as well.)

I don’t hate him but he seems like a goofy guy with a goofy swing and that makes it hard to root for him. Besides, he looks like Wallace.
