Hopefully they cut him when they activate Watson.
Do we get our $25 back from the Jimmy Fund now that he is back on the roster? I fucking HATE this guy. FUCK him for his missed tackle on Clement. If the Falcons cut him he must have continued to suck. Ok, that feels better.

Jordan Richards is a shitty safety but he played a lot of special teams here and in Atlanta. BB just mentioned tightening up the ST so I think this is more of that kind of move as opposed to DB depth.

Quick edit: he played 68.5% of ST snaps for the Pats in 2017, the highest percentage on the team that year.

It's a special teams move, I think I read somewhere that BB mentioned post Bills game that they struggled a bit on kick coverage during that game. Given the depth they have in the secondary right now he should not see the field for any defensive snaps except in garbage time.

A supposed source who called in to WEEI’s morning show claims that he got Minka Fitzpatrick trade to the Steelers right and that Stephon Diggs will be (or very likely will be) traded to the Pats. Take it FWIW. Probably not real but stranger things have happened.

Given how soft the early schedule is, waiting for Harry to return might make more sense.

And now I will resume freaking out about the Return of Jordan Richards. Please make him ONLY a Special Teamer.

There is more to that story....

When they asked this "source" why other NFL beat reporters such as Rappaport, Reiss, Schefter, and Yates don't have this story, he told them "Don't talk about another person's job, Felger" and hung up. The hosts laughed that they got called the "F-word".

Ebner is banged up, so maybe this move is a fill-in for him.

Or, someone in the secondary is getting traded? Yeesh.

Did the caller say where we are getting $7 million in cap space to magically appear?

We went through this the other day. He's a guy in WV who once worked as a production assistant at ESPN.

Don't waste you day worrying about this

Yeah...that's him. His "Crabtree to the Patriots" scoop has yet to happen. He's 1 for 2 and batting .500. Sign him to play RF and trade Mookie.

Any chance #17 is actually Damien Harris? He has been wearing #37, which is Jordan Richards' old number.

My guess is that’s Jordan Richards and Daniels is only speculating it’s a receiver based on number. I mean, he may have just gotten to the stadium and they said “here wear this and get your ass out there, and we’ll figure out your permanent number later.” There are no rules regarding practice shirt number.

RB’s can’t wear 17
Is there any logical reason for this rule? I get why you might need OLinemen to need a certain set of numbers as ineligible receivers, but why does any of the rest of it matter? An RB can wear 26 and split out wide, or take a snap from center, or stay in the backfield. A WR can wear 17 and split out wide, or take a snap from center, or line up in the backfield. So why do they need specific numbers?

Whoever that WR is, he's a practice squad guy because they have no room on roster.

That's quite a feat when you're competing with a murderer.
yeah but that murderer was a key contributor to an offense that had 3 good playoff runs including an AFC title! Gotta count all them mitigating circumstances. When you multiply it by all the fans in Patriots Nation, you can argue Richards has caused more pain in total!

Reiss suspected Kelvin McKnight, who the Pats worked out yesterday.
Great route runner but too small & slow per NFL draft profile:

"The size and speed numbers say McKnight is unlikely to be a "make it" receiver, but proved to be an absolute route chef against his competition with the ability carve and cook defenders on a regular basis. While his crisp feet and precise routes are a plus, he will have to speed the routes up and get out of breaks quicker. If he can beat NFL press defenders effectively off the snap, he's got a chance to make it."

You realize this is the NFL we're talking about? Logic has no place. I would assume it is partially to do with what players are eligible to go down field and where they can/can't line up without reporting as eligible. Yes wide receivers are eligible, but the NFL seeming decided the old mom rule of "if one of you has a rule, all of you have a rule" thing. It also makes it easier for coaches and announcers to see who is on the field and if there is an odd formation. The rules around numbers and eligibility were "strengthened" and made more clear after the Patriots "tricked" the Ravens in the playoffs in 2015 and the Ravens cry-babied their way through the offseason.

So now we have Ebner and 1 of Gordon/Edelman not playing Sunday?
At what point would we become worried for the game Sunday?
Started listing players then realized I'd have to list 1/2 the team including Brady before I got worried about WAS.
Nice having all these extra bye weeks this year.

Brad Kelly was reasonably high on him:
https://thedraftnetwork.com/articles/sleeper-alert-samford-wr-kelvin-mcknight-showcasing-nfl-traits
"When you accumulate McKnight’s numbers against Mississippi State, Georgia, and Florida State over the last three seasons, he’s had 34 receptions, 388 yards, and 4 touchdowns." 14 for 215 and 2 against Florida State.

Does anyone know what positions Develin typically covered and backed up on special teams? I know he was on the hands team and also you see him in various roles from time to time in all three kicking game formations, but other than a general sense I don't really know. I'm trying to figure out whether this Richards signing is basically a reaction to the team losing a major utility piece on special teams and whether it signals anything about the chance of a Develin return.

I don't know the exact answer, but I can't see that a guy 5'-11", 215, would fill the same roles as one 6'-3", 255.

I'm guessing that JR might be a replacement on ST for Gunner (obv not as a returner, but as a cover guy), JMac or DMac.

Yeah, these are good points. So, Bill is just trolling us. I need to believe there's a more rational reason why he's back.
