Players with more value aren’t cut until they’ve exhausted all options to trade them.I wonder if there's a strategy in the order cuts are made and/or leaked. So many cuts, do opposing teams look toward the final cuts from another team's roster, instead of those in the middle when so many names go through the list?
I was more thinking of the Pats trying to slide through a name they want on the PS (Gunner in this case) during the heavy tide of cuts, instead of drawing more attention to him at the endPlayers with more value aren’t cut until they’ve exhausted all options to trade them.
Yeah that helps too.I was more thinking of the Pats trying to slide through a name they want on the PS (Gunner in this case) during the heavy tide of cuts, instead of drawing more attention to him at the end
I'm guessing RO has it right - which makes Skipper an interesting one. Many teams are looking for tackle help (at least, per this article in the Athletic) - which means Skipper must have been as shaky as he looked in pre-season.I was more thinking of the Pats trying to slide through a name they want on the PS (Gunner in this case) during the heavy tide of cuts, instead of drawing more attention to him at the end
I don't know. I would assume most teams know who they may want on other team's rosters and they have access to the official NFL lists. It's not like some personnel dude is checking twitter and getting swamped.I was more thinking of the Pats trying to slide through a name they want on the PS (Gunner in this case) during the heavy tide of cuts, instead of drawing more attention to him at the end
Good chance Gunner plays on Sunday; today's roster is far from final. The bothersome thing about the Gunner cut is that it makes Edelman the only clear punt returner. With his thumb balky and his value at WR, it would've been nice to have someone else available for that duty
Yeah--remember, if they want someone like Rivers to play this year, they have to keep him, then make change. Gunner could be dude coming back.Good chance Gunner plays on Sunday; today's roster is far from final.
I think with Gunner out, it would be a shock to see Meyers cutWe think Meyers is safe?
Yeah it's going to really frustrate me if we expose julian to injury there againI just want to know who the return man is this season. Odd they featured Gunner there almost exclusively if he isn't the answer.
Chung is still an option, and as noted Gunner or someone not yet in the organization could end up active for Game 1.Yeah it's going to really frustrate me if we expose julian to injury there again
We know. But that doesn't mean we don't post the news of his release.Guys Hoyer might be back if they needed his spot for an IR-to-return.
Everyone understood your post except E5.I’m not saying you shouldn’t have. Sorry - might have missed someone posting that earlier. My mistake.
Edit: I was responding to @RedOctober3829’s comment. No objection at all with you posting the news.
Can't he be claimed by a QB-needy team? Or are vets free to pick their own destnations?Hoyer released ... Adam Caplan

#Patriots are releasing QB Brian Hoyer.
Less than 4 years experience have to go through waivers. So Hoyer is free to choose where he goes. Can't he be claimed by a QB-needy team? Or are vets free to pick their own destnations?
I understood it fine. Got a problem, send me a PMEveryone understood your post except E5.
Unless he gets an offer including guaranteed playing time, he's going to be a backup. At this stage of his career, and life, where does he want to do that? That's why releasing him for the initial roster is a calculated betI’d be surprised if Hoyer makes it back. I’m already hearing Denver and Indy have interest.
Another team likely won’t offer guaranteed playing time, but there’s a much higher chance of replacing an incumbent for performance in Indy or Denver. Absent injury or mop up duty, Hoyer isn’t playing in NE.Unless he gets an offer including guaranteed playing time, he's going to be a backup. You think Denver will bench Flacco?Another team likely won’t offer guaranteed playing time, but there’s a much higher chance of replacing an incumbent for performance in Indy or Denver. Absent injury or mop up duty, Hoyer isn’t playing in NE.
I mean, he was benched for sucking last year. And it’s sure as hell more likely than Brady getting benched. You think Denver will bench Flacco?
And, if they do, they have their own high draft pick to step inYou think Denver will bench Flacco?
Lock is hurt and has shown he is nowhere close to being ready. And, if they do, they have their own high draft pick to step in
He was benched for Lamar Jackson, not because he sucked. His numbers were around his career numbers. If you think situations are similar with Hoyer as they were with Jackson, agree to disagree.I mean, he was benched for sucking last year. And it’s sure as hell more likely than Brady getting benched.

Regardless of why Flacco was benched, I think we can agree that there is a clearer non-injury path to the starter's role with Flacco than with Brady. Tough to imagine a scenario where the GOAT is beaten out by Lamar Jackson...He was benched for Lamar Jackson, not because he sucked. His numbers were around his career numbers. Clearly leaking about cutting Gunner was a trial balloon to gauge the SOSH response. What, how does Rapaport conclude that Gunner - who’s already been cut - will stick?
Almost all the Pats reporters reported he “was cut, per source.” Reiss hedged with “has been informed of their intention to release.” Guess you can’t believe everything till it’s official.Clearly leaking about cutting Gunner was a trial balloon to gauge the SOSH response.
Gunner wasn’t cut, it was reported that he was getting cut. What, how does Rapaport conclude that Gunner - who’s already been cut - will stick?
Because nothing is official until turned into the league. They likely told Gunner to stick around because things might change. What, how does Rapaport conclude that Gunner - who’s already been cut - will stick?
Giardi said they told him they were going to cut him but since it isn't 4 pm yet and they probably didn't file their roster yet they got a deal for Crossen they liked and dealt him so Gunner is taking his spot on ST.Gunner wasn’t cut, it was reported that he was getting cut.
It isn’t an obvious Keion is gone so Gunner stays which means someone told Ian that is the case.
