I don’t know where Curran came up with the idea that Gronk’s retirement was exquisitely timed to deflect attention from Kraft at owners’ meeting.

Nothing is deflecting from a 77 year old billionaire getting criminally charged for a $60 handie. Curran is much smarter than this.

Where did the idea that AJ Green isn't tough come from?
The main reason I posted it was Zolak's Tweet a couple weeks ago about Green taking plays off and I generally trust Zo's takes on football. He's also usually really tied into what the Patriots think also a couple links from not great sources, one a complete blowhard:

https://www.foxsports.com/nfl/story/cincinnati-bengals-aj-green-hue-jackson-quits-on-play-san-diego-chargers-092215

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000874114/article/jalen-ramsey-on-aj-green-i-told-him-he-was-

I'd love to be wrong and have AJ Green be Moss 2.0.

FYI, Curran's big announcement was the league announcing that the Pats are playing on the opening Sunday night rather than in the opening game on Thursday.

That's a subtle stabbing. Playing an opening Thursday and then having 9 full days of rest is a big advantage over playing a Sunday night opener and then having 6+ days of rest. Seems like it should be an automatic reward for the previous season's best team. Not in this league.

I hope you are trolling with this pathetic post.
As previously pointed out it’s a reference to Al Swearengen, the character in the GIF. Curran making a vague post about something not roster related with a GIF of an infamous brothel owner when the team’s owner is in the news for getting caught up in a prostitution sting smacks of trolling. If you haven’t seen Deadwood, you should. If my language was offensive, pardon my French.

The SB winner hosting the kickoff game is about 15 years old. The kickoff game of the 100th NFL season is going to open with the two historically iconic franchises. That's not a stabbing, subtle or otherwise.

Didn't know about 100th season and I stand corrected. Deflategate was very scarring.

Wouldn't a Patriots-Steelers matchup between the two teams with the most Super Bowl victories be a suitable matchup for the 100th season celebration, in addition to keeping the tradition of letting the defending champs open the season?

Would it really be that insulting for two historically iconic franchises like the Bears and Packers to play in Sunday Night Football?

Just stay away from Jerry Thornton Twitter then. He still has Roger’s paws on our draft picks over Bob’s $60 handie.

The Russian psyche is healthy compared to ours.

I thought there were previous rumblings about the season-opening game involving teams other than the Patriots, like right after the super bowl or maybe even before. I just feel like this isn't surprising because it'd been discussed already, with non-nefarious motives (for once).

BB said he doesn't like the Thursday opener. While they get a few extra days going into week 2, that's not a big deal that early in season and would rather have a few extra days going into week 1.

I'm curious which one of Hue Jackson and Jalen Ramsey you think is a blowhard (an argument could be made for both / either).

Do you have a link for that Zolak Tweet? I haven't seen it and can't find it.

Green's a great player, he got hurt a couple times last year but tried to play through it, he makes contested catches, he makes catches in key spots (not that it's gotten Cincy anywhere), and of the best receivers in football he is one of the least diva-y. He can play on my team any day. I just haven't seen anything to suggest he's available (and the Bengals are a team that barely trades).

Thanks DrewDawg - well, that settles it for me. But I can’t help but feel that that has somehow escaped Goodell’s notice.

This is the one I was thinking of:

Interesting ... also kinda weird. I mean, he had to go back five years and Green had 6 catches for 81 and a TD in that game. Sure, a lot in garbage time, but that whole game was in garbage time basically. He did lose a fumble. He was also matched up against Revis most of the game (Browner was still suspended).

This strikes me as something of the J.D. Drew effect. Green doesn't show a lot of emotion on the field, good or bad. Watch him score a go-ahead TD with less than two minutes left in a playoff game and just put the ball down like it was nothing:

(Yes, the Bengals lost - this was the Hill fumble / Burfict personal foul game). Green's not a big emoter on the field, so when his team is losing, it probably looks like he doesn't care.

Not sure I agree with his assessment of Thomas, either. He's had a bunch of big games in big spots.

So if Gronk did decide to come back, how would that work contract wise? Would he have to sign a new contract, or would a pro-rated version of the old one go into effect?

It's a really good question. I imagine that if he were to come back this year he would be required to play for the Patriots. It would be a pretty big loophole if you could get out of an obligation to play for a team by retiring. But what the terms would be? Has to be that it's up for negotiation I would think since he is not honoring his deal.

According to a league source, the #Patriots inquired about just about every available wide receiver - and some not available - over the last month, from Antonio Brown to Odell to the assortment of free agents they've missed on. Plenty of time for Belichick/Caserio to shape the roster but more proof we aren't the only ones who recognize the need at WR (and now TE).

It’s not insulting to have them play on Subday, but if you’re calling the first game the 100 season celebration then the most suitable matchup is one involving the two teams with the most NFL championships, not just Super Bowls. Those two teams are the Packers and the Bears.

So then he's the next Gronk. Blocks likes a tackle, runs and catches like a basketball player.

If they were worried about being in the same conference as Josh Rosen, they wouldn't be dumping him during his rookie deal to draft another QB.
This may have little to do with Rosen and his ability. Kingsbury is coming from the college game where the best player this past season is within his grasp. Rosen isn't his guy. Kingsbury probably wants to give himself the best chance at a long NFL career by beginning with - in his mind - the best young QB available. My point is that all things being equal, I'd guess he'd prefer dealing JR to the AFC.

Played basketball in college at UTEP plus 1 year of football at TE. Converted to tackle. Broke his leg in camp with Minnesota last year. 6'9" 300 lbs.
In 445 offensive snaps, Dwayne Allen was targeted 4 times and had 3 receptions for 27 yards last year. Someone with more scheme knowledge please explain to me, why can't we ask this guy to lose 20 pounds and play "TE"? I can't imagine he would be less credible as a receiving threat than Allen was.

Miguel says Pats converted some of Bennett’s salary to signing bonus in a reworked contract, giving them $700,000 in cap savings.

The New England Patriots and newly-acquired defensive end Michael Bennett have agreed to rework Bennett’s contract, per a report from ESPN’s Field Yates.

The veteran pass rusher will receive more guaranteed money in his altered two-year deal now worth $16.75 million in base value. He’s also received a $4 million signing bonus. These changes free up $700,000 in cap space for New England in 2019.

Bennett’s original contract, inherited through an early March trade with the Philadelphia Eagles, held a base value of $13.7 million, plus per-game roster bonuses worth up to $2 million and another $1 million in incentives tied to his sack total.

This is a highest bidder situation. Getting the best possible return will be all that matters.

I agree it should be a highest bidder situation, but it seems that doesn't always happen. Unless you've read somewhere that this is the Cardinal FO's position (which is unlikely given that they haven't even drafted Murray and even then I'd be somewhat skeptical on any public pronouncements), I'm curious why you're so confident that this is the case.

Because as someone else noted, if they were afraid of him hurting them on an opponent, they wouldn't be trading him. If you want to make an argument that they want him out of division, sure, ok, maybe twice a year they might end up regretting it. Most likely scenario if they trade within NCF is they see him once every three years. That's not holding them back in any rational scenario.

The Pats traded Bledsoe to Buffalo. Nuff said.

That's fair. Given that the rest of the NFC West is set at QB, we won't find out here.
Speaking as a true homer though, I wouldn't bet a farthing on NFL FO's behaving rationally outside of the Pats and BB.
