At 33 yrs old and something left in the tank, I’d like to get a ring and contribute to it in a meaningful fashion. And I’d like to play with Tom Brady and someday tell my grandkids that I played with Tom and Aaron Rodgers.

Matt LaCosse just has the sound of a really hard answer to that "receivers who have caught Tom Brady TDs" Sporticle in about 3 years.
he is a blocking TE think D allen only had 1 20+ yard catch last season in denver when denver had no TE esp after week 9

So were Matt Mulligan, Matt Lengel, Kyle Brady... If he plays, odds are he'll catch a 1 yard TD on a play action pass.
its a great move for him my 02 cents gronk needs to let NE know before April 25th if he will be back because if not ne needs 1 of those te from iowa if he does then u can get a-dlineman in round 1

I'm not too upset about missing out on Humphries or Tate and I'm confident that BB will put together a WR/TE group for 2019 that is at least as potent as last year's contingent.

But the draft is going to be huge in terms of restocking offensive weapons in the longer run. Gronk probably hangs em up after 2019. Gordon is either going to fuck up, in which case he's not getting another chance, or not fuck up, in which case he'll probably be difficult to retain as a FA. Dorsett is on a prove it deal and will probably leave next year whether he proves it or not. I like to think Edelman will resign but you never know: He hasn't made that much money in his career and he might feel the need to chase top dollar. A guy like Berrios could emerge but that's always a long shot.Without adding anybody in FA this year, we have exactly zero starter-level WR/TE receiving options that we know will be around in 2020 and beyond.

I think we spend high round picks on both WR and TE and there's a decent chance we double dip at WR. Draft well Bill.

Without adding any long term higher end passing game weapons in FA this year, the WR/TE cupboard is basically completely empty for 2020 and beyond. A guy like Berrios could emerge but that's always a long shot.

Well fortunately they have an army of picks this year. They'll miss on some, but with that much ammo, I hope they hit a few home runs.

Please note the draft weekend carefully and remove sharp objects from the TV area beforehand.

Of course this could be the year that BFB goes hog wild and double dips at receiver with high picks. May as well try to bet on the cockroach races than handicap the NEP draft.

It's going to be great when BB drafts 3 safeties, a punter and a kicker while trading the rest of the picks into 2020.

Here's a betting game/drinking game for us: on what page of the draft thread will the phrase "Pats must hate this draft" or "BB hates this draft" first appear?

Clayborn granted his release.

Thank you @Patriots for my time with the organization. I gained so much respect for how you do things and win championships. It’s done the right way through hard work. Thank you for granting my release. I’m ready for this next chapter.

edited to note he asked for his release

Details on LaCosse's deal. Its very incentive laden and they could cut him before the season with minimal pain. He'll be competing with Izzo, Hollister, and whoever gets (one assumes) added via the draft, but I wouldn't assume he makes the team.

Just for fun, I went to the NCAA kicking stats to guess who BB likely has his eye on -- good kickers at bad-weather schools. Wyoming's kicker led the NCAA in FG%, but he's only a junior. Utah's senior kicker did pretty well this year and was the nation's most accurate kicker in 2017, but it doesn't look like he did kickoffs, so I don't love his chances. That's about it in terms of guys who jump off the page, so I think Gost will be back for another year.

I have a feeling they have a handshake deal with Gostkowski. Given all the activity it just seems like he would have signed somewhere else by now if not. Or he has an offer that they are allowing him to shop. They had to be very close to the cap before the Clayborn release so they may be waiting for another move before they let him sign the deal. You figure it's going to be a cap hit of at least $3 million.

Fuck yeah.

BB was probably like “wait, YOU’RE ASK....uh, well Adrian, if that’s how you feel, we understand and thank you for your contributions.” In his mind “contributions” is in quotes, but he says it with a straight face.

I would think it's more likely that his agent asked the Patriots if he could say that Clayborn asked for the release even if he didn't.

My read is that they gave him the choice between a pay cut and a release. He asked for the release.

Hoping this is a good sign for the Wise / Rivers / Davis triumvirate.

That's interesting that he added this. Even the newish guys are clued in to the cheating allegations regarding the Pats. I wonder if it's a point of emphasis from the staff as a motivator. If it is, it's a bit surprising that BB & Co. would even acknowledge the bogus claims. I hope Clayborn's asked to expand on this.

Disappointed to see Waddle go. I wonder if Cannon is the backup plan if Wynn struggles, since he played well one year at LT in college?

Dante is going to have his work cut out for him ... again.
I mean he is starting with the best, by a fair margin, interior OL in the NFL, a solid vet RT and 1st RD LT.
I don't think they are asking him to work miracles this year.

Maybe (he played LT as recently as 2015, though he struggled) but then they still need a plan to back up RT. I guess it depends on who they get for a swing guy and his comfort level at LT. Personally, I'd prefer to leave a guy at a position he's playing well (Cannon at RT) and worry about helping the other guy rather than move Cannon to LT and now have to worry about two spots.

Breer says we have the second lowest amount of cap space left (via a Sunday morning internal report)

5.55 Million.

So some of the contract numbers for the players we signed must be in the system, but just not public yet.

Good question. He was big in the Super Bowl. Picked a good time to play at his best.
,,,as he often does. High has a big hand in three of those trophies; hope he's back to collect on the MVP he narrowly missed a couple of months ago!

Yes, though I’d want little part of Doctson unless they gave him to us for 6th rounder, and even then.

His main point is very solid.

Laquon Treadwell doesn't drop the ball?!?!?

For most of the guys on that list, there's no reason to think they're available.
I don't think that's ever the right way to look at it, honestly---there are of course guys who are truly not available (like, I don't think there's any package which can get Aaron Donald here) but most guys in the NFL are at least possibly available at all times, imo. I think we often get too caught up in what is reported and who is rumored to be on the market rather than focusing on whether teams might be willing to take asset set A over the player they have.

So, I'd be willing to bet Pats ask about guys like those in the list and while the answer in some (or evne most) cases may well be "no thanks" I do not think it is wise to limit our speculation/analysis to guys who are known to be out there---because nothing I've ever seen from an actual GM suggests teams think that way.
