Meh. It's fine but the guy has been waived/cut 6 times in 4 years and has 79 career catches. It wouldn't be the first time they've found a diamond in the rough if that's how it works out, but I won't be shocked if he never suits up in the regular season. That's a great signing. If Tate works out, we've significantly upgraded at the WR position.
Great signing? A dude who hasn't produced anything meaningful at receiver and who has been plagued by hamstring issues? He caught 23 balls in 4 games for the Lions, but had a ridiculous 5.7 yards per catch. That's a great signing. If Tate works out, we've significantly upgraded at the WR position.
Yeah that's how I feel. Also doesn't return punts. Meh.Meh. It's fine but the guy has been waived/cut 6 times in 4 years and has 79 career catches. Bills probably offered the biggest deal?Cole Beasley said in his press availability that his decision came down to Buffalo, Dallas, and New England.
"Hoping for Maurice Harris" might as well be the name of the Patriots free agency subforum. At least he doesn't count against the compensatory pick formula, if he was released by the Lions.
Was kinda hoping for Maurice Harris, though.
He has returned 48 punts in 44 career games for 7.8 yards per returnYeah that's how I feel. Also doesn't return punts. Meh.
I like Bedard, but he's been trending towards Felger territory--he was also completely bearish on their defense and on Michel all year and throughout the playoffs.Using overthecap, I could find about $11.5 million in savings by cutting:
Adrian Clayborn
Lawrence Guy
Brian Hoyer
Nate Ebner
Elandon Roberts
also Gronk extension would net them about 6 million or so.
A Brady extension could also net the another 10 but he can't be restructured until August (365 day rule)
Greg Bedard was just on with Felger and Mazz and he is very bearish about the Pats cap situation
Hope the Pats explore the trade market. They need a receiver (preferrably two) and there's not much left out there in free agency now.Wow, Golden Tate signed with the Giants. Wondered what happened at the last minute($$$).
Ah thanks - didn't show up when I looked in his game log. Also had 50 career KO returns. He has returned 48 punts in 44 career games for 7.8 yards per return
Besides the numbers being off since you replaced the cut guys with zeros, why would you cut Lawrence Guy?Using overthecap, I could find about $11.5 million in savings by cutting:

He already addressed thisBesides the numbers being off since you replaced the cut guys with zeros, why would you cut Lawrence Guy?
He's a bargain at his price.
Really?He already addressed this
Ditto. I wasn't expecting Tate to be a Patriot because it seemed like he'd want too much, but the Giants came out of nowhere, it seems like.Wow, Golden Tate signed with the Giants. Wondered what happened at the last minute($$$).

What did he say about Lawrence Guy?
Can't find it.
Wait who
Free-agent safety Terrence Brooks has signed a 2-year deal with the Patriots, per source.
Still don't see anything there that explains any sense out of cutting Lawrence Guy, but thanks for hall monitoring i guess?http://sonsofsamhorn.net/index.php?threads/2019-patriots-post-sb-roster-thread.26166/page-17#post-3310595
"I should have been more clear. the intent of my post was to demonstrate the cap constraints the team has. Cutting those 5 guys would "only" net a max of $11 million (less, as pointed out in subsequent posts thanks to the rule of 51). I wasn't advocating getting rid of them. I just picked non-star players making "real" money who would provide "real" cap savings if cut"
Think you picked too quickly - just go with 'who's overpaid / can be replaced with cheaper' for that sort of exercise instead, because there's no real point in just dumping people willy-nilly."I should have been more clear. the intent of my post was to demonstrate the cap constraints the team has. Um how does "I wasn't advocating getting rid of them" not explain that. He clearly stated that the purpose of the exercise was to show that a few guys with "real" cap numbers still wouldn't move the needle a ton. Not that cutting guy made sense. In fact his point is pretty much the opposite.Still don't see anything there that explains any sense out of cutting Lawrence Guy, but thanks for hall monitoring i guess?
Dumping someone the caliber/salary of Guy is what you see an NBA team do in order to get a franchise-caliber max player. But the NFL is a completely different cap environment and those kinds of moves make no sense.Think you picked too quickly - just go with 'who's overpaid / can be replaced with cheaper' for that sort of exercise instead, because there's no real point in just dumping people willy-nilly.

Maybe then we won't spend a 2nd rounder on a ST safety??Looks like a STer.
Seems like an Ebner replacement? Ebner is an expensive luxury but hard to see a guy like that go if this is what it means.Wait who
Ummm, because he was pretty clearly picking guys he thought they could do without, right?Um how does "I wasn't advocating getting rid of them" not explain that
Pretty obvious he picked guys who were not "critical" or team captains or whatever - his point that cutting some mid tier guys doesn't get you anywhere, so why do it?Ummm, because he was pretty clearly picking guys he thought they could do without, right?
That's why I was asking him, you know the guy who posted it, why he'd cut Guy.
Because cutting guys like James White and David Andrews and Julian Edelman making right around what Guy does would save them even more, and they didn't make his cut list.
You don't think the list of guys was picked at random, do you?
From my seat by the TV, and even though the number of tackles is solid, Ebner didn't seem to be the consistent force on ST that he had been prior to the knee injury.Seems like an Ebner replacement? Ebner is an expensive luxury but hard to see a guy like that go if this is what it means.
Giants are officially the Harvey Dent of the NFL.ah fuck off Giants, what do you need him for?
onto the draft.
Yeah. I agree. Only so much you can pay for glue guys, though I have no idea if that's what this means. You just can't get too attached to any of these guys. From my seat by the TV, and even though the number of tackles is solid, Ebner didn't seem to be the consistent force on ST that he had been prior to the knee injury.
True, but with rule change that’s a bit less important.Yeah. I agree. Only so much you can pay for glue guys, though I have no idea if that's what this means.
Whatever his skills, though, the couple of times a year the other team looks to be doing an onside kick it sure is nice to have Ebner on the field. He knows what's what.
I'm all for an incentive-laden contract to JordySo we’re totally kicking the tires on Jordy Nelson right?
I guess not any more."Hoping for Maurice Harris" might as well be the name of the Patriots free agency subforum.
